You're free to believe that parents should never let their children play M rated games. I, and many...MANY others disagree and believe the parents should make an informed decision.
Fine, I was just making a generalisation, if you want to advocate children playing adult games in the same breath as you advocate censoring games because of the harm they could do to children fine. Contradicting yourself saves me the trouble.

"But where does the censorship stop?" It stops when the company producing the game is satisfied. You have no say in the matter. The company will make the decisions based on potential profit. If it's more profitable to dumb the game down, the company will (See Frogster and Pegi12).
If they view it as more profitable not to censor something, then it won't be censored.
Thank you, Captain Obvious.

"Also, the idea that changing bikini bottoms to hotpants would stop a pedo from playing for the Elin is laughable."
it's plausible. I never said it has happened, I said if it does stop one, it's justified.
No, it's not plausible. Unless you posit some kind of bikini-bottom feitishist pedophile who hunts kids using MMORPGs. I mean, wow, how small a demographic must that be?

Of course, this doesn't even address the issue of a pedophile playing Tera for the Elin, but then suddenly turning into a predator after real children. No, we won't just get the harmless kind who only look at virtual girls, or the hardcore type who will use any social tool on the internet to groom children. No, we'll get the harmless type who is obsessed with bikini bottoms and will turn into a full fledged predator as soon as he is in contact with children in a virtual environment. Yep. Likely.

But you know how we could be sure to prevent pedos playing for the Elin? Absolutely sure? Remove the Elin. If you believe this argument holds water, then by not advocating the removal of the Elin you are simply saying "It's ok to censor them a little to save a kid. But you can't remove them. A kid isn't worth that much".

And you know how we could be sure to prevent pedos playing at all? Absolutely sure? Shut down Tera. If you believe this argument holds water, then by not advocating the shutting down of Tera you are simply saying "It's ok remove a race to save a kid. But you can't shut down the game. A kid isn't worth that much".

I could go on to how a pedophile actually looking to groom children would play a child's online game, not an adults one, but really, I could come up with objections for the rest of the day. Your position is just that ridiculous.

You do realise your position is equally ridiculous? At the end of the day we win, though because we're arguing on the side of what's already happened, while you're all standing like custar when you've already lost. QQ moar, kthx bai.

Lots of silly arguments in this thread. A few points:

- The ESRB has nothing to do with this discussion. Tons of games that are much worse (more violence, nudity, and language) than TERA and are still rated M.

- It's not toned down all that much. My mystic looks like she's wearing a prom dress in to battle. The Elins are still there, just modified slightly. And huge bouncing breasts are everywhere.

- There is no "censorship" going on here, really, as that implies outside forces suppressing what BHS/EME/Frogster/Whoever wants to do with the game. What we're talking about is adaptation. EME rightly decided to tone down some of the visuals in the game to appeal to the western audience. Their job is not to fulfill some artistic vision, it's to make money. They determined that the game would sell better here (North America) if they made a few changes, so they made them.

You can disagree with their reasoning, but look at it from their perspective. There are two groups of potential customers in play here: Those who think the visuals are unappealing for whatever reason, and those who are unhappy with the changes made. I'd be willing to be that the former group is vastly larger than the latter. It only makes sense to work to win them over.

If EME would just allow us to modify the game client for the purpose of using the korean textures, this whole debate would basically go away. EME, please allow us to at least modify textures on our client.

Frogster stated that the Elin attract undesireables. That puts this in the category of censorship, as well as being a nice big [filtered] you to a significant chunk of the playerbase.

I'd agree with that. Of course, the groups that actually matter are the ones who will kick up a fuss over the original armor, vs those who would kick up a fuss over the changes.
Now, I'm pretty new here, so could someone fill me in on how many threads there were complaining about the Elin costumes before they were changed, asking for censorship? To compare to the endless threads complaining about the changes that we've had since.

I WONDER WHICH THERE WERE MORE OF

Tizuby, the only thing En Masse must seek approval for is changes to the game's core code. Texture changes, alterations to quest text, feature addition and removal are all on their own discretion. In the end all they do is hand Bluehole a copy of the finished product and say "This alright boss?" most likely Bluehole (being a Korean studio and unfamiliar with American/European studio practices) didn't do much in depth digging to see all the changes, they probably just gave a brief overview to ensure the game was fundamentally the same product and said ship it.

And look, not having a "pedophilic race" didn't change a thing. Thank you for proving my point (Protip: it was this part: "I could go on to how a pedophile actually looking to groom children would play a child's online game, not an adults one"). I should have said "would play a popular childrens game, not a niche adults one", then we could really have tag-teamed your position.
