The Lack of Etiquette

This isn't a “name-and-shame” thread by any means, but I would like to personally describe a serious problem in this game from my own experience.

I've been playing the game fairly often since I bought it and have reached Level 55 with relative ease at the cost of a good party experience, meaning I've had to wait longer periods of time to get the BAM quests finished as well as Instances. My problem with the game is with a certain portion of the community who do not show any respect to their fellow players and make up weak excuses as to why they cannot possibly demonstrate some form of common courtesy.

I joined a party around my level, finally able to finish an instance I had to wait a day or so just to find a good team. We each headed off to the next area afterward and began, with me as the party lead. One of my members began to invite people without even telling me they would be coming. While I am all for helping as many people as possible, I would like to be made aware instead of being sidestepped; I'm just asking to do my role in the group properly. They all then started rushing ahead of me and doing other things while I was trying to do quests and focus on a starting point, forcing me across the map in a helter-skelter fashion, stopping for nothing.

All the while, barely anybody is communicating with each other. There are no compliments, no strategies, no plans, and my words are falling on deaf ears even outside of battle. This rushing issue also happened to me yesterday with another group and I had been left out of the rolls for high quality loot, therefore I received nothing as a result. Coincidentally, it also happened again today, and one person was off on his own and he had obtained a few items but decided not to inform the rest of us, even though I had seen him collect it in the chat log.

Back to today, one person of the group repeatedly obtained many rare items while the rest of us got very little for our efforts, while I myself had gotten nothing at all. This person was playing a priest who neglected to buff us, healed only when they felt like it, and seemingly had no ambition in assisting the party in a satisfactory way. Just by the way they followed us it seemed like it was one person playing an alternate account so they might have double the chances in the rolls for loot. This all comes to a climax when a Gold Bow is found off an enemy and the priest, again I say they had received several Superior amounts of loot totaling at least 3 good items, is able to take it over the rest of us.

I have an Archer alt that I actively play and raised to 22 in only a day, and I asked for that bow for later. This person then told me they made all classes as alts and will be keeping it, even though I offered a sizable chunk of gold for it. I brought up how they had been receiving practically everything up to that point to the rest of my group, but my words were completely ignored and the subject was silently dropped. If anything is harming this game, it is most definitely the avarice of others. I'm sure there will be some among you who tell me I'm wrong and defend the actions of these people, but I'll tell you a story.

Back in the days of Diablo 1 & 2, the community at least had an admirable amount of decency. For those who are aware and remember the displeasure of “Ogden's Tavern," you might not think this was even possible. But, in Diablo 2 since that is the one I played the most online of, everybody who teamed up would always stop after a fight if a Rare item was found and describe its stats and even show it in the trade menu, giving it away if there was someone who could use it and no questions asked. It was a shred of human politesse that has been lost to time, and sadly the experience in TERA is marred a little more because of this.

Thank you for reading, and if you've had similar incidents, feel free to share them. All I can say is something I wish weren't true in the general case: You should covet your friends in online games like your own wife & child.

Fortunately, up until this point, I've had the opposite experience. In fact, while running BoL with loot settings wrong, I had a lancer win the blue leather chest. I kindly informed them that I was interested and would be willing to pay if they wanted.

Not only did she give me the chest, but when the run was over she went to her bank and grabbed the blue leather gloves she had there, giving me those as well. Keep in mind, I had never met this person before getting randomly paired in LFG, and I certainly didn't ask if she had equips I could use sitting around in her bank.

I've done the same a multitude of times, handing over weapons and armor I was saving for alts to new friends who could use them, explaining the crystal system by buying people crystals to use, etc.

I guess all I can say is, try to not let it get to you, and when you find nice people, friend them and try to keep in touch.

And if you're on Jagged Coast, add Pedestrian!!

I have to say that a lot of Tera population lack the sense of maturity/respect for others compare to old school mmo days. Not saying everyone. All these fit that criteria just kind of hard to find.

As for the looting aspect: When I get a rare or gold item, I tends to pass on the next one. All other player I encounter just roll on it even if they won a bunch of it. Some run I don't even get a single green gear item which was a bit disappointment, but end up with the "oh well" expression.

When I was in the 40s, I did an NT run. Everyone was getting loot except for this priest/mystic. Well, that person did get a rare item, but was upset about not getting any of those gold item. One of the party member even offer to give him a gold neck he got. That person just ignore and left the dungeon.

For the communication aspect, most people don't even talk to another for dungeon run. It make the run a bit boring and like do your role and kill X boss. Occasionally, I do meet social people that tends to joke around.

The main fault for that is probably because you cannot type with such combat system and people tend to always chain pull mob. Guess Vent/Voice system is the way to go for friend/guildies, but is a hassle for a random group.

Though I'm semi-hardcore and can be hardcore if needed, I'm looking for a casual low population guild of like 50-80 instead of those big size one so I can know the player better. Haven't actively look yet though.

That's because old school mmos were 'harder'. Wanna get from level 20 to 21, you gotta grind that [filtered] for hours and hours in the same camp killing the same mobs, and if some [filtered]s come up and try to take your camp you gotta make them dead too.

You lost the roll. You didn't win the item. That's fair. What are you complaining about?
No one is obligated to give up a gold item they won just because someone in the group wants it for their alt. If you want it that badly, just buy from the broker or someone else who's willing to sell it.
So basically, you threw a fit like a child because you weren't getting lucky with rolls during that run.
Of course they ignored you.

How does someone steal items if you are party the leader and set loot options properly?
