The real reason this game sucks.

I've been waiting for TERA longer than I care to admit. Before Aion went live in NA to narrow it down. It is the single longest time I've anxiously awaited the arrival of a game, of any genre. It's difficult for me to admit that this game is dying but at this point I'd be delusional if I thought the game was doing well.

Everyone always complains that players burn through the content quickly then complain that there isn't anything to do. This is the nature of "hardcore" MMO gamers. But in TERA, even my casual friends, my friends who don't log in all the time and play until their eyes bleed, are bored. Very bored. Of the 30 or so people I came to this game with, none are left. Zero :(

Our largest fear coming into TERA was that the PvP content was an afterthought. Then they lifted the 5 second declaration for PvP, talked a bit more about their GvG and showed videos of their crappy BGs. I had hope that maybe there would be fun content at the end of the tunnel.

Well, that content has yet to show itself to me. The game is the most stagnant, boring and uninspired experience at endgame. I mean, a handful of dungeons, boring daily quests and exploitable GvG in a next-gen MMO in 2012? People keep comparing it to WoW in 2004 ... pure stupidity. Like every review I've read, the game lacks substance, It's boring. It's pretty and it's fun to run around on your toon but that is where the fun and new experience ends.

This game officially died to me when I started looking at Archeage videos again.

gamers these days are like sheep, they move from MMO to MMO, creating hype themselves, rush it, burn out on it, and then blame the developers. what did you expect? mmos are supposed to be about the journey, and the experience of interacting with the world and its mythos.

the concept of "end game" is completely retarded. there shouldnt have to be "end game" to cater to people, the majority of the content should come through leveling, and actually working to achieve a cap. if developers could learn this, instead of catering to average joe, we could finally rid of this misconception that MMOs should be about rushing to cap and having this so called end game.

you people bring it on yourselves, there is plenty to do, from leveling alts, maxing your gathering/crafting, doing dailies/rep farming, dueling people, hard modes, etc.

its the first month, and you expect it to have as much to do as an MMO that has been out for 2-3 years, you rushed to cap before the game even got a few days old, and gee. i wonder why youre bored. because you are narrowminded people who think the game starts at 60.

it starts at level 1, and ends at 60. having something to do at cap is just icing on the cake.

I actually agree with you on a Lot of what you said. The main issue with this game is... EME never has any kind of 2 way interaction with it's playerbase.

After that. The game is off when it comes to level speed. Crafting is Not worth working on, because everyone levels too fast for anything a crafter can develope to have any value.

Thundercat is right. If you level through an area so fast you barely experience it, you are levelling too fast.

The reason everyone is so concerned about End Game? "What is there to do at level 60?" becomes vital, when there is nothing to do at level 20 other than hit level 21. What this game needed was.... slower xp gain... and... some form of real cost to deaths. It's funny, but on this point I agree with Thundercat.

Yes, the game has been out for a year in Korea. But it was launched here on the western less than a month ago. They won't and should not release the final version of the game, because then they wouldn't have anymore material to work with. It would be as If you'd bring a tv series from over sea and everybody started demanding you to air only the first and the last episode on the tv. And more, all those people that complains about the lack of end-game content, because they rushed to toward the current lvl cap, would be complaining anyway. They would just rush toward top lvl, because they have nothing better to do, and then would come to the forums to bash on the game, to post link to negative reviews and claims they're throwing poop at the game because they care about it and want it to grow, but you should not waste your money with a sub.

... and we all look forward to your "this game sucks" posts when you burn through Archeage's content too.

BTW, I've seen video's of Archeage and while a lot of their features look interesting their character models and armor appearance are rather uninspiring to me. I will be staying with Tera.

Its funny reading the OPs post, because infact WoW was good in Vanilla and TBC, after that it turned to crap and was dumbed down for casuals. So it was exactly the other way around.. lol.

I think, what the op meant was. This game doesnt suck considering how long its been out in the west. But in terms of comparison to other games that have been out for years upon year with constant development all that time it might see more shallow. Which is to be expected of any new MMO.

The point is many supposed MMO "gamers" think that a game is supposed to be perfectly completed at launch, and this just tells us you're not really an MMO gamer because if you were you'd understand that the launch of an MMO is a lot like the birth of a child. They come out they have all the basic necessities like 10 toes, two legs maybe 6 fingers on one hand, but then they have to grow up from there learning to crawl, walk, wipe their [filtered].

MMO essentially the same thing. Launched client has the basics and then it is expanded from there. This is true for ALL, EVERY-SINGLE-MMO EVER LAUNCHED this is also true for EVERY-SINGLE-MMO that will be launched in the far future. So complaining that an MMO doesnt have everything an 8-10 year old one does is like asking "why wasn't my baby born already 10? " "Why the [filtered] do I have to mess with these diapers?"

Also realize that it takes time to fix and develop new things. making a thread about something today wont make it magically fixed tomorrow or next week possibly not even next month.

Be patient.

Problem comes when people ask 'Why should I pay this ammount of money for a game that doesn't offer me any worthwile content, when there are others that do for the same price?".

Suddenly it's less a matter of patience and more of resource management.

which is simply ridiculous really because if that were the case wouldnt we have all stayed on Everquest or DAOV, UO, or even WoW?

Answer games only have so much potential in them from the get go, they run their course and then it becomes just more of the same old same. Kind of like where WoW is now. So ultimately you should be looking at asking the question, "What kind of potential does this new game have?" Because of course the game thats been out for 10 years is going to have more going for it than the game that has been out for 1.

Firstly, id like to say i had a lot of faith in tera having followed it prior to release only to find it misplaced. Here are the issues I have with tera, some may or may not agree but these are my opinions.

Leveling is too fast, some may say ppl rushed it but frankly if you bought the game at release and havent hit 60 yet then you either suck or are new to the mmo scene or perhaps the gaming scene all together.

This ties into the fast leveling as there doesnt seem to be any end game content to keep people busy once they get there at a rapid pace due to nothing more than poor game design.

EME seems very out of touch with its playerbase, I realize there was an interview that has been floating around recently but it was less than fantastic to say the least.

potential misplacement of time and resources. I gotta say this pisses me off the most of all. The one thing i was looking forward to in this game was any form of pvp(cause lets be real, there is 0 open world pvp in this game), which at the earliest seemed to be in the form of BGS. In the interview it was said that we'll be getting it anywhere between augest/septermber when the koreans get it july 4th. it's a given that it takes time to do translations and such but when I see time being spent implementing meaningless [filtered] like pvp points for death matches I cant help but feel like those people could be helping get us Qoa2 faster.

P.S this is 2012, I dont think its asking too much to have something to do other than repeat dungeons 100x only one month after release. Frankly, if they didn't make leveling so ridiculously easy we probably would've been pleased with the game until the new content was good and rdy for release instead of losing a good chunk of bored players and having all this drama on the forums.
