This game is being ruined by the random factor

The 10% who get +9 on the first try, get 5/5 glyphs from glyph boxes, and lucky drops from instances, end up "finishing" the game too fast and then just stand there complaining that there is no endgame.

The 10% who get screwed and can't +8 after 10 tries, get 5 alkahests in a row, and has never seen an enig drop in BT get frustrated, end up complaining about the pointless "Korean grind", then threaten to cancel their sub b/c EME didn't hold up their promise of no grind.

The 80% who neither benefit nor get screwed by the random # generator generally don't feel cheated, and don't feel bored. It's a nice balance.

...except....as the game goes on, the random # generator WILL eventually screw them someday, and thus they end up in one of the first 2 groups.

LFD gives random players and groups, thus ends up with a crapshoot where most players get their "feelings hurt" because they got kicked. When instead we could fix it by having a cross-server matching system where we pick our gear/lvl requirements or select from a bunch of people who posted in a "cross - server" lfg panel.

The point?

What is the function of all the randomness in this game again? Why not just put in a system where, say, 5 gold weapons guarantee's a +9 from +8? 18 badges to get a guaranteed glyph from glyph boxes? Not only do we get to see our progress, we get a guaranteed "rush" of achivement once we finally do get that +9 because it actually felt like we "worked" for it, instead of just got lucky.

Unless EME changes the random system, it will eventually frustrate enough players that they will all leave the game.

I feel more rush getting lucky because i'm just like "[filtered] yeah!" or I feel more of a rush after failing for a million tries then getting it because i'm like "[filtered] yeah finally, so much stress is gone!".

Where as if I knew it takes five golds well, theres no excitement because ill do 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 and be like "Just as I expected, I do fancy this here +9 now".

Not saying RNG is a good thing, but I get more of a rush from RNG than a set value, nomsayin?

did you all stop to think that everyone has BAD RNG at some point and they just suck it up?

It's that rush that most gaming companies will be aiming for. If you've ever wondered what gambling is like... ;P

I personally really enjoy the RNG. I've been filtered over by it more times than I care to count, but I still love it. For the few times RNG is kind to me... Totally worth it!!

Man, I wish it was 10 tries... I've been sitting on +7 on my disc for over 2 weeks now, on average trying to enchant it 2-3 times a day (at least one gold fodder used a day) and still no luck.

As far as the extreme RNG is this game is concerned the answer is actually quite simple; because they need to somehow keep people occupied, given that there are only 2 endgame dungeons, aka there's pretty much no progression to be had.

Some games (like Rift) make their raids very challenging so the progression is determined by the community's ability to figure out the mechanics and work as an organized group (aka skill based progression with a gear gating component that supplements it).

Tera (like many other Asian MMOs has very limited endgame (some would argue that over a year after release it's a joke to only have 2 hardmode dungeons,) so they must somehow artificially keep people occupied until the next batch of content comes out.

The only problem is, there are a lot of people out there like me, who are simply becoming more and more frustrated with the constant stream of bad RNG, despite them really putting a lot of time and dedication into the game.

As long as I've waited for this game to come out, and as much as I REALLY want to like it, the RNG makes it really hard; be endless enchanting fails or other stupid design decisions (just today I reached max rep with Shariar only to buy a ring that has HORRIBLE stats on it, while someone else that I know worked the same as me, bough the same item, for the same price, but has far, far better stats on it). How is it fair?

This is exactly how I feel. The earlier people who posted probably don't realize some people have failed 20 or even 30 tries just to get +8, because, well....it only happens to a few people. Games like League of legends started out with random stuff like dodge chance and GP's huge cannonball range, but they eventually removed dodge as a stat and made GP's ult more consistent. I know it's not exactly the same analogy, but randomness in a game often does cause more frustration than the joy they give out. Most people don't want to gamble on EVERYTHING 100% of the time, which is basically what Tera's endgame is.

Well, maybe not 100%. Kinda surprised the rep quests werent like "5% chance to get 9000 rep, 95% chance to get 1 rep".

Couldn't agree more, but they still won't fix it.

Haven't had a single enigmatic weapon/armor drop for me in any instance ever. Run BT/fane quite a few times a week and still never anything. I ended up buying my boots and gloves, taken 6-10+ golds to try to get them both past +6. I gave up because I need to keep my money in case a chest/weapon drops.

First glyph box I got gave me 3 alkahest. Second box I got gave me 20 badges back, third box I got gave me the most useless glyph of all.

Stupid. I don't mind farming and I don't mind running things, but damn there is just so much rng it isn't funny.

As of last night, I have failed 38 times using only orange weapon as catalyst to get my t12 enigmatic lullabow from +8 to +9. I am one unlucky bastage, but I don't mind it because I know that when I finally do get it, I'm going to celebrate! I will most likely celebrate by taking a small break from the game haha.

I only recently hit level 60 on my main character (a lancer). Monday.

Since then I haven't completed any 60 dungeons, done any daily quests, or really even logged into my Lancer for anything other than guild-management that can't be done from my alts.

Instead, I'm focusing on my Mystic alt for now until I'm ready to go back to my 60 and start working on gearing up.

Taking a break after a victory is a nice way to prevent yourself from burning out.
