There are improvements that can be made. The combat itself is more enticing than the games you listed. I wish they would have player housing and a bit more additions to the economy. Something to really turn over with one's mind and get into, with planning and strategy.
The OP seems to be looking for something like an updated version of UO. TERA is not that game. You need to move along and keep waiting because what you're looking for isn't here yet.
Personally, I didn't care much for UO; it was too much like endlessly watching a constant replay of our shared history of murdering and pillaging each other. Don't need to play a game to see that anyway, just turn on the evening news. Considering how much you enjoyed such a game of social chaos however, I'm surprised that you liked any of the more structured MMORPG's that came afterward at all.
To me though, it just sounds like you're rather burned out on the whole MMORPG concept as it is being, and has been, implemented over the past decade. I mean, if you're searching that hard for a point in something that is just another form of social diversion, then maybe it's time to just take a break from MMORPG's for a while.
Roll to a PvE server and quit complaining about getting ganked... geez.
