Beyond the several correct points Qilong makes, content development of the variety you're requesting at this stage of the release would be a huge misappropriation of resources. The niche player base that enjoys collecting things and events like you're describing, while arguably more populous than the average minority, is still a minority. There is plenty of content that can be and should be designed that will affect a much greater portion of the game population.

How does "fluff" effect you negatively? If you don't want it or participate in it, you don't have to. You see how that works?
And four mounts =! mount collecting
It sets up an expectation of you getting whatever you whine for loud enough.
Oh, and ... this game is two weeks old in NA, one year in Korea. It takes TIME to develop content when we don't even have a single expansion yet, and you already want content in the game that is established after YEARS in other games.
Should there be extracurricular stuff? Yes! And there is....
But you want extracurricular that derives largely from the expectation that WoW did a thing that was good, and that's set up these vanity elements of the game that involve almost no real outworld or in-dungeon excursions. I'd rather have more out-world stuff, both to promote players actually engaging in content and PvP, things that force players to group up such as high-reward, high-power world bosses, and so on. Things that make this a GAME that works instead of just you and your console. That's what pet collecting and mount collecting is like in WoW, that's what "minigames" are like in FFXI and WoW, and that's what they're going to be like in GW2.
The problem with WoW in this regard is that it turned into something you could solitaire. The problem with FFXI in this regard is that it turned into 4-5 hours or 3 days sitting in town waiting for a party to show up.
I want a game that involves you with others, but doesn't FORCE it. TERA is working to make content both soloable and also low-mannable so as to promote players grouping together, but not force it, while at the same time permitting things like BAM farming for the fun it is (and I think it is) while also achieve-farming (which I do, and do with others).
