Haha IKR, all these kids chanting their hardcore-ness can go jump off a cliff when their character gets PK'd, until then you are still a regular dude behind your computer screen, stop talking hardcore, bros

without the penalty like the old days it feels a character is just more of a thing you use to play the game with instead of it actually being a character, a character loses it's important. These developers now catering to these carebears of this generation really ruined old style gameplay when it was fun.

I agree. Most of these people that are against the type of rulesets that we are talking about, are against for 1 reason.

Ignorance.

They have never played in such a ruleset. Their first experience playing an MMO is quite possibly WoW or DAoC.

When those 2 games came out, it was a needed change from EQ.

But look at where games have gone to since. Out of hand. Spawning games like RIFT and SWTOR.

2 games that are so casual friendly, that they are hardly even recognizable as MMO's. They are single player games with cooperative options.

WoW veterans will tell you WoW was better in Vanilla. The ruleset was tougher than it is now.

The market is ready for a tougher ruleset type of game. And I think that a lot of these people that are running their mouths in opposition, given the opportunity to play in such a ruleset, would finally get to see first hand the benefits - and the enjoyment in playing in such.

lol...there is a difference between ganking and griefing. Camping corpses is lame and just makes me log out and play a different game for a few hours. Gratz you win...nothing!

Tibia was a blast to play. I played it during my young school years with a majority of my cousins and uncles. I played on the Libera server, known for it's massive wars that even people from Nova and Antica came over. I loved that games, but not anymore. Not because of the gameplay, but because of the changes made. They're making it like a 2D WoW. Sure, there is still the Pking hardcore to it, but its super easy to level now due to bots and super easy to grab gear and make money (both bots and the casual changes affect this)

I like the hardcore in games. It made you actually get involved in the community if you wanted to have a good footing. Nowadays, people can play their MMO by themselves without a single person affecting them. To me, that's not the "Massively Multiplayer Online" aspect of the MMORPG genre. Having server wide guild wars and conflicts at hunting spawns, including timers and loot restrictions, all while making sure not to die to the monsters you were hunting. People actually communicated with one another and there was a huge sense of community within every server.

Using Rift and SWTOR in the same sentence is not very fair.

In Rift the devs actually care and are actually trying hard to make the real sucessor to WOW BC, since the current wow is too lolkiddie. You may not like it, but they are trying.

In contrast, while playing SWTOR you can actually taste EA peeing in your mouth.

I remember had to have skill to play games. There was no "easy route" to play unless they had the option of giving you the settings (Easy, Normal, Hard).

Then again I play a lot of bullet Hell Games that would make 90% of the players on here drop down and cry LOL.

Anyone remember Megaman 2 and 3? How about Super Mario brothers 3?

You get it. Harsh rulesets are not about hardcore / casual. Harsh rulesets are about the game designer creating content difficult enough, with penalties severe enough - that communities just act differently out of necessity.

Nobody likes to lose.

When there are no penalties, nobody cares about losing. Then - nobody cares about how they need to conduct themselves. And we are left with this pile of garbage called MMO's today.

Single player - me first mentalities, geared towards ease of play every step of the way.

I can't remember the last time my heart was racing in a MMO PvE experience.

Maybe the Plane of Water Boss in 2005ish? After our guild wiped on that raid quite possibly 30 times for 2 months straight.
