That is the question. Been looking at the game and I honestly can't decide. At the moment going to wait until tomorrow to get into the beta and see if I should purchase from there, but many of us know just how much a day of gametime can get you ahead (Planning on a PvP Server). I also have nothing going on this weekend.....
The game looks good.....
So to Purchase or Not to Purchase for the early beta access?
The Open beta is capped at lvl 32. Even if you wait till tomorrow, you can reach lvl 32 in one day of playing.
Yes people that pre-order will get to 32 before you, but they cant go any further. You will in fact catch up. if you are on the fence, wait 24hrs
Wait a day, try it for free and see if you like it first (you will).
Its only like $50 and if you are a skilled gamer bored by other MMOs' combat, you should love TERA.
You should be able to tell after a day or two of testing if you like it. I still have a few friends who aren't 100% sure they want to buy tera after being in CB. OB is going to have revised and expanded content, so you're getting a good look at what release is like. There are still a few changes that haven't been implemented fully yet but the game is a true gem. It's not just the "epic" combat system that the MMO-FO commercials push, there is a lot of innovation in the way that classes are approached (even healing is fun). The world is beautiful and the music is understated but beautiful. Crafting is a bit of a yawn but simple and easy--the finished products aren't half bad either (especially in alchemy).
Gathering is actually useful to do since it buffs you, and you can always sell your materials on the AH. There is an interesting storyline if you take time to look into it and if not the quests may be a bit generic but you get good rewards for the time spent doing most quest.
All in all, Tera is a solid game. It's unique in it's feel and presentation even if some of the content is similar to other games it is presented in a way that makes it refreshing. Outside of the starter areas especially you will run into a wide range of environments and monsters. NPCs are amusing and their dialogue isn't overly repetitive for the voice overs. The new voice acting promises to add more depth to storyline events and even just the NPC responses.
I personally feel it was worth the price for the CE even if the bonus items aren't available right now. I had a blast in the CB and am happy to have reserved a name I like. The extra days of playtime help me get ahead of the rush through the starter areas.
If you don't like it after giving it a shot during this open beta, all you have to do is delete the files. It's not a commitment. Certainly you should try the game. And it *will* ruin you to other games if you enjoy it.
I just pre-purchased the game. I had played an early alpha last year but gave my beta spot away to a friend.
I am interested in seeing how much has changed since then.
you mean you were one of the only people not playing in the closed beta? It seemed as if everyone and their moms had a key.
If you are truly uncertain with all the information, screenshots, videos and player reviews that are out there it may be best to just wait for tomorrow because you must be very hard to please.
