The first part is laughable, if you can build a 500$ machine that can play this game at 60+ frames..... you cannot. This is not a source engine game or simple single player game.

50$ case (matx case of ok quality or a mid tower of mediocre quality)
50$ psu (gonna be 500 watts.... maybe bronze rated... not modular)
100$ hard drive because they are so expensive
20$ disc drive
40$ ram
70$ motherboard, this has to be micro if you try to hit 500$...

so you have 170$ to spend on a gpu/cpu and you must have your own operating system.

Well... by your very example you have just created a $500 machine that runs at 60fps (though you're missing a CPU).

I hate stating this because it is such a troll thing to do, but it applies. I build PCs for a living. HAH! There. I said it.

My current system (using some rounding):
$30 Case
$40 Ram (-$10 Rebate)
$120 Gigabyte 990FX MB
$80 AMD 555 Black Edition (unlocked to 4 cores)
$65 600 Watt PSU (-$15 Rebate)
$80 1.5 TB External HD (ripped the enclosure, stuck it in, done)
$130 XFX Radeon 6850 (-$25 Rebate)

$540
(-$50 Rebates)
Total: $490

Kubuntu Linux is free. So is Wine. Periferals not included. Stock fans.

Tera with all graphics set to max runs at 40-60fps.

Laughable still?

Waiting for the right sales and rebates and buying in piecemeal is the key.

Terrible computer, psu likely is not even bronze rated lolol.

CPU is going to CHOKE HARD on Tera, and at 1920-1080 you wont see 40-60 fps with a 555/6850 combo.

30$ case LAWL nice, really nice.

External HDD LAWWWWL slow load times and stuttering.

You spent way too much on a motherboard for a 500$ build buddy. LAWLAWLAWL

/e who the fk would use LINUX over ANY windows operating system. Just because it is not included does not mean people do not have an OS. If you have ever bought a prebuilt you have an OS... just get a disc and install it on the new computer and toss the old one.

A computer is garbage if it only runs TERA at 40fps max settings for less than $500? It's not like TERA is going to revamp its graphics anytime soon. Youtube/Netflix/TV Broadcast videos are only 30fps. I have an $840 machine after taxes and shipping and it runs TERA max settings at 57 - 70+ FPS depending on what's happening on the screen (EDIT: and the video card was only ~$140). Getting a $400 GPU for TERA is extreme overkill.

-.- You really don't know what you're talking about, do you?

PSU is 80+ Certified (Silver, I believe is the term you are looking for), single 12V rail.

The 555 is unlocked to quad core, and will runs superb as such.

Apparently you missed the part about cracking open the external HD. Guess what's inside of an external HD? *GASP* An internal HD! Just like the one you have! Only... Cheaper! Cuz those things go on sale all the time!

But since you won't be convinced by simple math even when it bends you over its knee and spanks your lilly white buttocks; it's a WD 1.5 TB Green, 16GB Cache 7200rpm (and yes, you can turn off the "Green" to avoid the power saving features that slow it down conditionally).

And who the hell cares about a $30 case?! I'd run the damn thing wide open if I had the space for it. The case has absolutely 0, zilch, nothing to do with the performance of a machine. It is asthetics alone (one can argue cooling, but even that can be solved with very simple modding).

I run Tera at 1920-1080 native, 60hz refresh, max settings, with this set up, and I get 40-60fps. If proof is what you desire, I'll have a youtube link for you after the 4th.

You, sir, are utter failure.

670 GTX

$399 and it runs the same fps as the $599 680.

Single 670 GTX will be a great card that lasts a long time.

Stay away from AMD/ATI products.

Runs hot. Terrible case = terrible airflow especially with the power supply you are apparently using. BIRDS NEST WIRING LEWL.

GL with the green drive fella you will need it XD

GL with the processor, you will need it (its gonna choke fella its no where near the 955 and even it has troubles at times XD)

Dude... what part of "I run Tera..." are you missing? This is present tense. No luck needed FELLA. It's running now, and running well. I built this box last year and it has handled everything I have thrown at it; Skyrim, Deus Ex, B3, SWTOR, and now Tera.

You do understand what a "Budget" means, right?

This is the card I just bought to replace my Radeon HD 5770. I am thoroughly excited about getting it, as a friend of mine has it and says they can run Rift balls-to-the-walls maxed out and get over 60 fps in TERA with the UI (120 fps without it). :3

It was a little more than I had been wanting to spend, but the mail-in rebate helps a lot.

[edit] Reading through this thread - my god, guys, can you not understand the concept of "I cannot afford to spend a billion bucks on a graphics card"? This isn't some epeen contest; the guy just asked for recommendations on a graphics card and it's clear he's on a budget. Tossing $400 monsters at him and saying "it's worth it cause it's awesome" doesn't really help. Put your willies away and try to do what the OP asked...

This is as bad as when some guy says "Blahblah I'm having some fps troubles blahblah" and some dude pops in with "Well my computer's made of 30 karat gold and its processor has the power of a small universe - I don't have any problems!" Totally ridiculous. xD

Reading this thread, it is painfully obvious that getting max settings at smooth framerates, on TERA, using a video card that costs less than $400 or a system that costs less than $1,500 is not possible and everyone who says otherwise is lying.
