Various Bugs and Issues

First and foremost, I do not intend for this to be a "whiner" or "complainer" post. I am merely attempting at addressing issues I have experienced while playing so far. I believe there should be a suggestions or bug-reporting sub forum for threads like these.

For those wanting to make suggestions for the game that are not bug-related I would like to redirect you to Summener's thread http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/Tera-Community-Suggestions-Thread?page=1 .

1) ~ The Chat window has many problems that require some attention.
a) Quotation marks or certain other grammatical characters cause messages entered into the chat to not appear and only show the message channel name. For instance, when typing in Area with will only send [Area] into the chat. I will note that the message can still be seen by others in the chat bubble that appears from typing the message.
b) The window occasionally or even frequently resets while changing areas. Taking a Pegasus flight or teleporting will at times either remove all previous chat messages completely from the window or delete only a portion of the messages.
c) The chat filter really needs work. Most profanity is allowed while other completely innocent words are filtered into pound key symbols. I assume the filter is based off of the Korean version, however I also assume En Masse would have worked on this. According to the ESRB website, Tera is rated "M" and thus I honestly believe there should be an option to turn this feature off even if the filter were to be fixed.

2) ~ Using Mana Charge while moving can sometimes cause your position to reset when the bar fills up each time. I'm not sure what is happening with this bug but it can be both frustrating and debilitating. I often use it while on the move and being "teleported" back to the same spot has proven hazardous and time-consuming.

3) ~ Receiving a notification, such as a party invite, from a player while typing will cause whatever you were typing to be deleted and automatically accept the notification. I have experienced this a few times where I was typing a message and ended up losing it while receiving a party invite. This should be easily fixed by making the window remain out of focus to not allow commands to interact with the notification until you decide to.

4) ~ Invisible walls. If I want to jump off a cliff and fall to my death, let me. Being unable to move towards a cliff to see what's down the sides is a bit annoying. It kills the immersion for me. I will also mention how some of the terrain doesn't coincide with how your character interacts with it. There are a lot of instances of me floating (standing) in the air. I have also heard reports of people getting attacked and hit by monsters that were inside of a wall.

5) ~ In the Dungeon Instance Queuing window the text where it describes the common party set up implies you can queue up with more than 1 healer. Perhaps I am reading it wrong or taking it the wrong way but I kind of expected to be able to queue up while questing with my friend who also happens to be a healer. Note, that I am perfectly fine with not being able to do that as I realize 2 healers is completely unnecessary and sub-par for groups.

6) ~ Teleporting or taking flight paths cause you to change to Channel 1. I haven't paid much attention to this but several friends have mentioned it so I find it important to include.

7) ~ "Save Email" feature for login information. Please, this is pretty much standard is almost every situation that requires you to log into something, game or otherwise. Having such a feature would also help give some protection against key-loggers since you wouldn't have to input your email to log in every time.

8) ~ As far as I know, you are unable to change the size of the font in the UI without also changing the size of the windows. For me along with a few other players, the is really small which makes it difficult to read without leaning forward and straining. This include the chat bubble that appears when someone types.

9) ~ My Elin character's legs sometimes clips through her shorts. I can understand extension pieces for clothing/armor but this is a bit random for a "flat" article of cloth. I am aware of the reason of it's existence along with the discussions it has brought but I feel its important to create an immersive world.

I don't think I should mention the subscription expiring bug but I've encountered this a total of three times now, I just got booted off again an hour ago due to it. This issue needs to be resolved soon as a lot of people are just assuming you don't get the usual free 30-days of game time for buying the game. Word-of-mouth is extremely important for MMO success and this issue will cause a lot of bad word-of-mouth, even if wrong.

I have high hopes for this game and hope it becomes successful. What better way than to spread awareness of problems you've faced in hopes to have them fixed?

Sidenote: Keep me logged in on the website while I type a long post, please. -.-

I agree with everything said. Most notably the save email feature... because I often mistype my password and it drives me insane when I have to retype my entire email back in. (which should have been saved in the first place.)

Yeah, my email is pretty long and typing it every time I want to log in takes a little more time than I would like.

All the way to page 5 over night. I was hoping more people would reply as most companies will take complacency to being okay with minor issues. If people don't talk about it they won't take the initiative to fix any issues.

/agree with everything!

very annoying bugs i deal with ALL of them every time i play!!

i would also like to add a few more if i may.

10) Certain quests are bugged where finishing them will not allow you to get credit therefor being unable to proceed with the quest chain (story qeests mainly)

11) Slayer abilities such as Heart Thrust are bugged and do NO dmg at the worst of times even if you hit the enemy right on. tested and trialed by many slayers, more posts are in the Classes section of the forums.

12) Not really a Bug per say but an extention to the "invisible walls" one. WAY TOO MANY OF THEM! im always walking into invisible walls, they make the game feel alot smaller and terribly designed. (tried to walk between a mob pack and a cliff wall, vissually had about 10-15 meters in game but couldnt pass through at all) highly annoying.

13) Falling animations dont feel Fluid, i try to fall down a cliffs edge the best way possible, but i end up being thrown in a direction ididnt want to go in and fall in a diagonal direction as if im floating forwards. this is really, REALLY bad design guys and needs fixing.

14) a massive gripe, you make this beautiful world for us to explore, but you cheap out when it comes to flying by using these 'Gates' that we fly through. imo i dont like them at all, i want to see the world, not just questing areas broken up into different parts. it doesnt feel like a 'world' to me. when i get on a flight path to go to a diff area i dont want to go into this 'hyper speed' screen that hides the non existant map...

15) AH flooded with yellows and blues. loot doesnt at all feel good or special. often see ppl casually saying "ok good got my yellow from such and such dungeon now i can proceed with questing" making it feel like a chore rather than an awsome peice of loot you got...

thats it so far, loving the game but so many dam bugs and silly things that clearly have been overlooked for the past YEAR in Korea....

Good ideas but a little school session here for you:

All companies that have an official forum do not see the forums in the way you and me see them. They are seen as a series of tickets, which are addressed in the order they are created.

Bumping a thread, and even getting responses to a thread will not affect the response to it in any way.

I know this as I work closely with the design of these kinds of forums, as well as supplying them :)

1 a and b are related.

I tested this out last night. After noticing that my chats were not resetting when switching areas/tabs. I then typed [this "is a test" ] (without the brackets) which sent through as an empty, leaving the fabled

<guild>
with empty text bug.

I then typed a few messages through, switched tabs and back, and everything after the empty message was "lost".

It would appear that somehow the empty messages ravaged by quotes seem to literally break the whole system. With more testing I hope to find the max amount of chats that stay in the log.

I believe that if you get those blank messages that destroy the chat to "fall off" (after X amount of newer messages have been sent) that it might make the chat stop resetting (until such a time as another blank message ravaged by quotes comes through).

Number 7) while it *may* hinder keyloggers (which are usually detected by anti-virus) it will actually make things potentially worse. When a "remember me" option is ticked, it saves that info in a file somewhere (cookie or file depending on launcher).

If it's unencrypted (which it usually is) then a program that reads the file, writes the info to a file it created (so that the malicious program has ownership of the file), and shoots it out over the internet will go undetected by anti-virus software.

Since it's your game email, it's the one thing you REALLY don't want potential account thieves to get. If they gain control over your email, you're screwed. It makes it VERY difficult to get control back (especially if they change your email PW). Also if the email is used for other things/games/banks/whatever then it's possible for the thief to gain at least temporary control over those as well.

A big issue here is reuse of passwords. A majority of people (90% iirc from security class) reuse at least some of their passwords for convenience (hell even I do it occasionally with low risk stuff).
That means they don't necessarily have to crack your email or game password, they can go after an easier target (such as fan sites or community sites) which tend to not be as security minded and easier to compromise.

The best thing on EME's end (from a pure security perspective) that can be done is the inclusion of a virtual keyboard that randomizes position after every click. This would make the only possible avenue of approach a man in the middle attack, which is rare (with games).

"But I don't want to spend all that time using a randomized virtual keyboard to type in my account name and password" -- Security is not convenient. The more convenient something is, the less secure it is.

If you pay attention to the sites you visit and what you download you'll stop 90% of malicious code from getting on your machine. I strongly recommend running FireFox with the NoScript addon (you have to give explicit permission for javascript to be run for any given site). I also suggest leaving UAC in windows ON!

Also do NOT play or surf using your admin account. It's slightly less convenient but will stop almost all malicious code from being executed on your machine. (Ask the linux folks if they would run their machine with their root account. They'll laugh.)

TL:DR
Number 1 a & b are related, and I'm doing more testing to figure out what's going on, so people can know what not to do until it's fixed.

The convenience of a "remember me" option is a double edged sword. It may hinder keyloggers, but leaves you wide open to "file readers".

Watch what you download/what sites you visit and keep your machines security settings and practices high and you won't even need active anti-virus. (I do this, have no active virus scan only running hijack this and MBAM once every week or two and I haven't had malicious code enter my system in over a year).

I am well aware with how most companies view their official forums. However I am also aware with how Blizzard communicated with their posters which allowed an understanding between the players and developers. I believe this was one of the reasons WoW succeeded so well. Communication between players and developers is key. I am not sure to what extent En Masse even bothers bringing up to Bluehole but if enough people make an issue known a company WILL do something about it to protect their profits.

I had a suspicion they were related but I wasn't sure so I didn't include that in my post.

I did not imply saving your email would protect your account from all forms of account hijacking but I do agree with your points. However I feel you went a bit off tangent there and still stand by my opinion that saving your email would give some security mainly because keyloggers are the most common form of account thievery.

...what number are we on...

16) Quest items staying in your inventory after the quest is completed.
