This is my favourite argument against pet shops. I don't care what people say about turning them off or any such bull[filtered]. The only argument so far that holds any weight is that you can not set up a buy order on the AH to buy all of a certain item.

People are always so retarded on these topics.

BoP, is good because you have to earn your drops by investing time.

Pet stores, is bad because you have to invest time into finding your items.

Make up your mind. Should you require skill and time to get your items, or should it be easy to get them straight off the AH?

All I see is people who argue for the winning side for the sake of being winners, not for actually having an opinion. Just a bunch of turn coats that would be all "I love pet shops" if EME changed their mind.

My beef with player shops is that they are something you would expect to see in a F2P game ( played quite a few and they are over run with shops/stands )

I prefer a Broker/Auction house , especially one that you can place buy orders like Eve.

The only game i've played that it wasn't an issue was Aion and thats because the lower pop on most servers kept shops to a minimum of 6-7 at a time which was reasonable.

regardless of the fact you can turn shops on or off is irrelevant to me cause I really don't feel that any game needs them, its a hassle if I want to use them to buy something as I have to run shop to shop and waste time looking through them to find what i'm looking for vs just searching a broker.

But hey they're removed now , problem solved.

Buy orders on the AH would just be abused because it is centralized. This would allow broker bots just another means to control the entire AH from a bot program.

Pet shops allow personal transactions separate from the centralized and highly abused AH system. It allows players to set up shops in remote locations to maximize profit, purchase materials at the source, and offer other players a remote merchant to work with while farming. Pets can be used as signs and advertisements(if controlled properly), and the pets give other players a feeling of interaction that you cannot get from the AH. "MM" in MMO = massive multiplayer. Nothing about the AH feels massive or multiplayer.

There are half a dozen fantastic reasons to use pet shops. This is just what is completely obvious to anyone who cares to think about it critically for 15 seconds.

Seriously though kill all the pet shops, they will ruin the institution of marriage if you allow them to sign a piece of paper and pay a higher tax rate...

Translation: I want to be a lazy, lazy individual by putting up a shop with an item for an exorbitantly bad price because I know some idiot will eventually come along and buy it, since I never have to compete with the AH!

Careful, your bias is showing. Possibly your ignorance as well. If you have any experience setting up a player shop you would know it requires much more effort than simply placing a listing on the auction house. I'm not going to pretend either is extraordinarily difficult, but you're the one suggesting someone is lazy if they choose to set up a player shop instead of selling an item on the broker, and that's just stupid.

Don't even go this route.. it just makes your argument look petty, desperate, and ridiculous.

I agree with this. If it weren't so sad, it would be funny - where were all these people who wanted player shops removed from the game prior to EME mentioning their impending removal? I'm pretty active when it comes to reading through the forums, but I guess I just missed all the complaint threads calling for the removal of player shops. Surely they must have been some prior to EME's announcement, with as big a deal as this has become for a few players.

I take it none of you have played L2. And the system worked fine there.

System did not work fine there. It was a lag fest. It was a strain on the server. Even if there was an option to turn it off, it's still a strain on the server.

EME is a publisher.

Let that sink in.

EME is like EA with a little man complex.

Let that sink in.

Now think about what motivates EME to give a damn about anything the actual customers want. EME has very little invested in publishing this game. They will recover all investments made and turn a profit with relatively small box sales numbers. Beyond that they have no financial reason to invest more resources in this project.

Publishers do not do anything without a solid financial reason to do so. Period.

Every "Westernization" gimmick being implemented is based on a floating point scale of opportunity cost versus pre-order and projected initial box sales. The entire "Westernization" package was slapped together into a proposal a year or more ago. Nothing was used to procure this magical "Westernization" plan other than anal grease and a good solid yank. Everything in the proposal that matched stereotypical divisions between Asian and Western MMO gaming was approved on the spot because Jimmy Coin Purse is impressed by flashy pictures and trend-data*.

No consideration was ever, or will ever be, given to the wants and desires of the actual gaming community that supports this project. They simply want the box sales.

* Trend-Data = Imaginary data compiled by manipulating statistics in a way that suggests they support your hypothesis.

Also POTATO!!!
