The best suggestion I saw was just to make pet stores reference what you have on auction (or a subset of), and leave the buy functionality as is. That way people can turn them off without feeling like they're missing out of anything, and players who like them can still set them up in areas where there is no auctioneer.
That was actually my suggestion, but no one bumped the thread enough to keep it alive.

This, is actually a GOOD idea. But I'd expect the to restrict it only to areas where there is no AH access at all. I probably wouldn't use it since it still looks pretty awful, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about being forced to shop around in the ugly things and kill my immersion. I can just wait until I get to the next town AH.
I, personally, find it more immerse to sell my own items as if I was the merchant....
No way you find more immersive a beautiful harbor with all the nice details and then 200 small pets jumping with text all over.
And by the way you people talk abut the AH like it was surrealistic, think it this way you go to some guy who works on the AH and he has a big list of all the items and the prices of the stuff he sells, you give him the item and tell him the price plus a few coins then he writes it down and if someone wants that item he shows him the price if he sells it he sends you the money through mail.

Off-topic here for a sec: But what you just said basically is like shopping on e-Bay :D, lmao. Just popped into my head as soon as you posted it.

More realistic than a cat managing your sales! :P
You 'prolly stopped reading after that first sentence didn't you? Further down I admit it's an eyesore...at least as it is currently. Thanks for contributing by helping me find a slight error in that sentence that is now corrected, though. (Meant immersive, not immerse.)
There was a poll recently on this forum regarding pet stores that got a lot of votes. The results showed that around 60% of voters actually wanted to pet store to remain in the game. That's not just significant, it's the majority. I went with "significant percentage" though to avoid getting into an argument about polls. I can find the link if you really want, but the search function is there if you're genuinely interested.
