Ways to minimize queue times. ATTN: EME

A temporary solution that would help paying customers (those that actually paid money to pre-order) would be to prioritize them in front of the Buddy Code users waiting in queue.

Being that is a temporary solution, I offer a more permanent one, and I hope EME reads this:

We don't necessarily need a new PvP server entirely - just convert the lowest populated PvE server to PvP and send those players to the 2nd lowest populated PvE server, if offering a server transfer is technically impossible right now. You would need to make sure you can fit all of these characters into another PvE server (the same one - you don't want to split guilds and friends). Beyond that, if possible, give everyone one free server transfer, with a weekly cool-down timer to avoid people server-hopping. This will allow people such as myself, who commited to V.o.T. early before it was ever full, a chance to escape to lower populated PvP servers - which many of us would gladly do.

At a glance, I can only assume that EME has mismanaged server resources. This isn't directly their fault, as I believe they are trying to follow MMORPG server trends. However, let's take a quick look at current Tera server statistics.

PvE servers = 6, no queues at all, most are LOW population. Only DragonFall is 'Medium.'
RP server = 1, this is fine, still no queue, LOW population.
PvP servers = 3, all queued, all HIGH population.

The problem should be obvious now.

A server balance of 5/1/4 should help the high PvP queue times, allowing a shorter queue for PvP'ers, while still not making the PvE servers go into a queue. The RP server will be unaffected.

Clearly PvP is a more popular server selection than PvE. This should have been recognized as early as the CBTs, and as late as the OBT. More importantly, something should have been done about it between OBT and Head Start.

Alas, here we are. Completely lopsided server populations, with PvE'ers never experiencing a queue, and all of us PvP'ers waiting 30 minutes to over two hours (my queue time is 118 minutes on VoT at the moment).

Oh, and having no kind of 'grace period' for getting disconnected (especially while still in queue) is a little ridiculous. :P Please get this patched in ASAP. Also, please fix the issue of getting disconnected if you spend more than 5 minutes in the Character Creation.

This is my attempt at a respectful, constructive solution to the really high queue times on PvP servers. I don't know if it's technically possible for EME to do this, but I suspect it wouldn't be too hard. But what do I know? :P

Please post *CONSTRUCTIVE* feedback on how to lessen the current high queue times for the PvP servers. And please remember: every single PvP server is suffering from queue times. Re-rolling to a PvE server is not a viable option for those that want to engage in OWPvP.

Thanks!

It looks like Basilisk Crag has more room or something. Why does it show Medium compared to High of the rest? I guess they havent opened the extra room there yet.

It is probably easier for them to start a new 4th PvP server than mess with an existing PvE.

I just don't see how a company cannot think of these things themselves. If they have, they choose not to implement them lol.

No, they just know more than you.

To clarify this:

We've been monitoring all of the numbers today and the buddy codes that were sent out account for a small fraction of the users logging in today. Blocking these folks wouldn't solve any queue issues we're currently experiencing.

Technically, yes, that may be easier for them. But you have to think in the long term with these kind of issues. To add an entirely new server, would require more hardware, more bandwidth, etc. If, and I stress the word 'if,' they can handle the issue by "messing" with the servers they already have - that would be the best solution for all of us. IMO. :)

And I'm not sure why Basilisk Crag now reports MEDIUM population (it was definitely HIGH earlier today). However, it is still queued. :P

Well....... yes. They do know more than any of us do. If they know players want these things and keep asking for them, what they could do at little expense is give a line or two about why they are not doing it.

My guess is they are working on a 4th PvP server, but that it's not something you just install and get online in 10 minutes, and that they are waiting for it to be ready before announcing.

The problem with making more PvP servers is that historically there is an initial rush on PvP servers and then the populations ALWAYS drop by about 50% or some once people decide they don't want to deal the "the PvP crowd".

So then they would be left with a bunch of partially filled servers.

I agree to a point, and that's kind of the whole reason behind this thread.

But at the same time, I think EME was not prepared for the amount of people rolling PvP toons vs. PvE. Evening out the number of server types seems (to me anyways) like an acceptable medium as far a fix is a concerned. This is just my opinion, and I don't have metrics to look at, but if this trend continues through launch it should be a pretty good indicator of what the majority wants. Perhaps us 'westerners' prefer more PvP than the EU or KOR regions, in general.
