What Endgame is Really Like

*Endgame*

In a typical medieval-type MMORPG, here is how endgame works:

You just got to cap. Go to the easiest dungeon to get better gear. When you get the pieces you need from that dungeon, equip them right away for an instant upgrade, then move on to the next hardest dungeon to get more gear. Get better gear from next dungeon, equip for instant upgrade, move on to next dungeon, etc, etc, etc. Simple and gratifying. You're constantly getting new pieces of gear, and your character is gradually progressing.

In Tera, here is how endgame works:

You just got to cap. Go to Fane of Kaprima to get better armor. When you get all the the pieces you need from that dungeon after 20-50 runs, don't equip them because they are utter crap. Run the dungeon 20-50 more times so you can get more pieces of armor to enchant your pieces of armor until they are actually an upgrade, and purchase a god-awful amount of expensive alkahest. Then use 100 of each scroll to get the stats you want, possibly using spellbinds for the perfectionist. Now go to Balder's Temple to get a better weapon. When you get the weapon you need after 20-50 runs, don't equip it because it is utter crap. Run the dungeon 20-50 more times so you can get more weapons to enchant your weapon until it is actually an upgrade, and purchase a god-awful amount of expensive alkahest. Then use 100 of each scroll to get the stats you want (double attack speed), possibly using spellbinds for the perfectionist.

You finally got all your gear to +8 or +9. If you didn't, keep running those dungeons until you do, because now it's time for hard modes, and unless you are +8 or +9 in everything, you're going to have a bad time. Go to Fane of Kaprima Hard Mode to get better armor(Tier 13). Now go to Balder's Temple to get a better weapon (Tier 13).

I'm not even going to talk about Masterworking, because this section is already big enough. Just know that it is another gear grind utilizing the same two instances you've been running. Over and over. Again. This is an additional grind even longer than the hard mode grind, and even more expensive as you will need even more expensive alkahest, and because the odds of enchanting past +9 on luxed gear are extremely low. I know this has been excessive, but I'm trying to illustrate how such a long gear grind is being crammed into such little content, and how ungratifying the enchanting system makes it.

*Dungeon Scaling*

If you and your friends just hit 60, you will want to head to the two aforementioned instances to get better gear. The only problem is that the instances are scaled for people with the best possible enchantable Lv 58 gear, so you are going to have a bad time. This is because these instances were released as the cap was raised from 58 to 60 in K-Tera, so people had the best 58 gear possible, with nothing to do. Anyone who has tried Fane or Balder's with their friends still in their quest reward gear know exactly what I'm talking about. There are three options to get over the hump. The first is to get the best 58 gear possible, which is a terrible plan because you will be replacing it so soon. The second option is to try to get someone in your party who already has their weapon from the Robot in Balder's, so you can actually beat the Robot in Balder's. The third option is to use tons of consumables like the best charms, the best scrolls, cooldown pots, mana pots, etc and hope for the best. Or maybe try a crazy comp like triple sorc. Which no sorc is going to go for because they need their weapon from Robot so they can beat Robot.

*Enchanting*

I realize the NA enchanting system is loads better than it was. I played K-Tera, I know. But I still hate it. I hate the RNG. Here is my suggestion:

Say your weapon is +7. You want to get it to +8. There is a hidden stat involved. That is your % chance for a successful upgrade with a gold piece of gear. Let's say the chances for +7 to +8 with a gold are 25%. My suggestion is instead of this infuriating RNG, just make it cost 4 pieces of gold equipment to do the upgrade. The time sink is still there. The gold sink is still there. On average, across the board, people will be using the same amount of golds to upgrade. It will just take out all the guesswork, all the gambling, and all the frustration.

UPDATE: I have since seen two great new ideas for improving the enchanting. One is every time you fail an enchant on a particular piece of gear, the probability of success for the next attempt increases by a few %. Another great one is that each enchant has an xp bar, and each piece of fodder increases that xp bar until you get a successful enchant. More xp for better quality gear. You still have your gold sink, and I can see exactly how close I am to success. Excellent.

*Dual-Specs*

Dual-Specs. Need. Immediately. I need two different specs. One for PvE and one for PvP. I understand for some classes it is even more. I play on a PvP server, and do not want to head back to Velika to respec every time I want to do my dailies. That is BS. There is nothing overpowered about dual specs if implemented correctly. Have a cooldown, have a cast time, be out of combat. Boom. Done.

*Crystal Rarity*

The price of crystals is out of control, and I know the prices on my server aren't nearly as bad as some of the lower-populated servers. If you and your group are working on a new encounter, what you want to do is keep trying until you beat that boss, right? Trial and error. Learn the fight. But currently, you're SOL. You will be dirt poor before you know it. To do these encounters, especially hard modes, you will need the best crystal setups possible. This means that if you die learning the encounter, and you will, you're probably down 100-300 gold. Per death. After a few wipes, you're back to farming Three Towers and Balder's monkeys until you can afford to run a freaking instance again. The reason things are this bad is because EME removed an item from the game. It was a green box (don't know it's name, can't read korean) that when you put a trash crystal in it, like the absolutely effing worthless minion crystals, a random other crystal had a chance to pop out. This made it so you were never just selling crystals to vendors because they were trash, but recycling them to beef up the quantities of actual good crystals on your server. After this nonsense, I can't believe it but I've never wanted repair costs so bad in my life. Make it so crystals can't break, and add freaking repair costs if you are too lazy to actually address the issue EME.

~UPDATES~

*Temple of Temerity*

Temple of Temerity is a "new" instance added in the last patch. The reason I have new in quotes is because, of course, it is not new. It has been in K-Tera for a while, but was not added to our release. This is because it is a level 58 instance that was "re-tuned" by EME for level 60 players. I don't have a problem with this, just don't expect me to be a stupid sheep and thank the gods for new content when it was just denied content.

Moving on. Temple of Temerity, or ToT, is where you can get your masterwork glyphs. Masterwork glyphs consist of about half completely new glyphs, and half existing glyphs that cost one less glyph point. They are a great upgrade for your character, just as good as any new piece of gear you may acquire. While you don't HAVE to get these glyphs, you are gimping your character if you do not.

In ToT, the objective is to defend a crystal from waves of monsters, as well as fight three boss monsters that show up throughout the 20 minute encounter. Each person can only fight one of the boss monsters, so you need at least one person to solo one boss within 3 minutes. The lockout is 2 hours with a full group, and 1 hour if you que. Every run you get 3 "practicum badges" and if you defeat all 3 boss monsters you get 3 "dire badges".

These badges are used to purchase the masterwork glyphs you need, but are used in two different ways. You need 60 dire badges to pick and choose one glyph to buy. You need 15 practicum badges to purchase one glyph box. A glyph box states that it will give you a random class glyph. Not bad, right? Not so fast. These are troll glyph boxes. They have a chance to drop 3 white alkahest, a green identification scroll, or a glyph that you already have or of course don't want. You read that right. I said 3 white alkahest.

So how many times will you have to run this instance? I myself need 4 glyphs. Many other guildies I have spoken to require up to 6. So let's say 5. That means to pick and choose those 5 glyphs, you will need to run ToT 100 times, and that's getting a perfect run every time. You will not get a perfect run every time. Since the lockout is 2 hours, any sane person will grab 3 other guildies and que up the 5th. This means a random will be in charge of soloing, duoing, or trio-ing a boss down within 3 minutes. Good luck with that. If you factor in the practicum badges for the random glyph boxes, you will likely lower those 100 runs down, but I cannot say for sure since it's all RNG. If I had to guess, I'd say with half of your runs being perfect, along with decent RNG "skills", you will need to run this instance 50-60 times.

And I'm not even going to mention that ToT is small, boring, and extremely laggy. Remember your very first instance on the isle of dawn? With the Baraka priest healing you and stuff? This instance is half that size. I have had multiple guildies quit Tera over this instance. The insane grind is disproportionate to the rewards offered. And the troll boxes will make you pull your hair out.

*Nexus*

Do you want the best PvP gear in the game? Then Nexus is for you! You don't even have to PvP for it! Do you enjoy watching slide shows? Of course you do. Nexus is a server-wide event where a mass amount of people (or zerg) meets up and fights the evil Argon forces! What's a nexus? Well it's kind of like Rif- errr... its like a bunch of portals on the ground that open up and monsters come out. You fight the monsters, and get rep points and currency points to spend on sweet PvP gear! When you approach a nexus, you even get thrown into a party to leech off, err... help out.

Don't want to help fight the Argon forces? Well thats ok too! You can just show up and AFK, it's all good in the nexii-hood! As long as you are even remotely near the nexus, and you or one of your party members hits the boss one time, you get credit! Like being in a giant cluster-[filtered]? Like having 5 or less FPS no matter how good your computer is? Like dodging campfires planted by trolls trying to prevent you from reaching the next nexus in time to get credit for the first phase? Like being around hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people with COLLISION? Want to receive a DOT that slowly kills you and prevents you from riding your mount to the next nexus? Want to have your game crash if you LOOK at the boss when he's at 25% health or lower?

THEN NEXUS IS FOR YOU! JOIN THE FIGHT!!!

Seriously though, Nexus is [filtered] terrible. I'm in a very PvP-oriented guild, so we have no choice but to attend in preparation for battle grounds. If this zerg PvE abomination gave PvE gear like it should, nobody would waste any [filtered] time on it. To those who have not been to a nexus, or are convinced it is just players with bad computers whining, please watch this video:

http://www.twitch.tv/dirtn4p/b/320264542

This person is a fellow Valley of Titans player. He wants to show you how to nexus like a pro. He also has a very powerful rig (yes, better than alienware) and you will be surprised (not surprised) at how it handles the nexus event.

*Thanks*

Thanks to everyone who posted, even if you do not agree with me. I never expected this thread to get so big, and I never expected such overwhelming support. The reason for this update is seeing my thread on the front page weeks later. So thanks again.

Well written and slightly saddening.

I knew it was a korean grinder going into it, but this is depressing.

Owned.

Pretty much EXACTLY the reasons why my friends and I login to do dailys...then jump right back on Diablo 3.

The dungeon grind at cap is very poorly thought out. I'm hoping to god that the introduction of Nexuses will help as an alternate form of gearing until we have BGs and PVP gear. I'm a huge fan of the game, but I'm extremely worried about the long-term success if endgame remains this ridiculous.

Game is a 10/10 levels 1-59. At 60, the game falls off a cliff. EME, please don't let Tera turn into the next SW:Tor.

Can you believe that there were people not even... 2 months ago griping and bashing ENMasse for dumbing down the grind to just enchant gear?

Really pathetic.... whole end game is focused on getting that never ending +1 on the gear, and not being +12 vs someone who is is a marked disadvantage. I do not see this "easier" enchanting and seemingly infinite gear rolling to get the BiS enhancements lasting long as a novelty when you get to the next tier and aren't even finished with the current.

No offense but end game in WoW, and SWTOR was pretty much the same damn thing, minus the enchanting.

Run one of three possible raids, over and over until you get the BIS items.
When you're not doing that, you run dailies to get money for repairs and raiding buff food.

Pretty much most modern mmorpgs are the same thing. Grind end game content to get gear to grind more end game content.

Do we need more? Hell yes, but there aren't a lot of alternatives right now. I mean I can quit and go back to SWTOR, but it's really the same thing.

Raiding as the sole form of end game content does suck hard. You just got to find the one that hurts the least. For now anyway.

Let's hope En Masse listens and starts coming up with new content methods.

En Masse if you are smart you will heed this post quickly and respond accordingly. LEARN FROM AION PLEASE LEARN FROM AION. DONT BE AWFUL. I would've rather waited 6months to a year more for a game that was better westernized and had more content at endgame. I fully agree and echo all of this post. Change needs to happen soon or this game will bleed subs quickly. I love Tera's combat but it wont make the game especially in terms of longevity. Please really take a look at what the western audience wants/needs. I do not have use for a game where the main portion of my time is to farm gold to progress with rng. DO NOT WANT.

Not gonna compare the game to WoW but that game has A LOT more endgame content than Tera atm. Tera basically has a few dungeons + rep dailys. WoW has all that plus raids, tons of pvp options, deeper crafting and all kinds of fluff things.

WoW is also much more accessible to casuals, hence why it's the #1 mmo. Tera's starter 60 dungeons have a huge skillcap and scale dramatically over lower level content. They are not casual/pug friendly AT ALL currently.

Wait, use consumables and run [filtered] over and over? Sounds like EVERY OTHER MMO IVE EVER PLAYED.

It's called progression, not hand [filtered] to me because its been of farm for 6 months. It takes effort.

Instead of 10/25/40 man progression, you have 5 man progression.

Crystals however, need to get fixed

i hope it never is.

id like to see some diversity in the market. im tierd to all bloody hell of casual games. good lord oh mighty we have to actually THINK about how we run an instance. heaven forbid we can just cruse along and reap easy rewards.

i understand that people want an easy ride. i can understand that the game has barely past its launch and people are complaining about not having everything now. and i can understand that just looking forward and doing the simply math to show it will take a long time to do scares the hell out of some.

and you know what, good. oh so good. thank you and thank whatever god made this possible. a long term investment, i game i can play for years. a game that requires me to not only learn mechanics but constant attention and skill on my part. a game that will reward me in the long term instead of a cheap ride i will enjoy for a month at best.

thank you, thank you, thank you.

Too bad casuals make up a majority of MMORPG players now. They'll always cater to them.
