Two questions actually.
1. What type of server are you joining?
2. What server type will be the most popular population wise IYO?
I do not know which one i want to join, i want to do both pvp and pve. I do not mind getting ganked, but if the population on pvp server will be low because of how annoying ganking is, finding groups will take forever. however, I dont want to join a pve server and rarely pvp. I want to join the most populated server in hopes of not having to find a group for hours or waiting for hours for that 1 healer/tank.
I am going to go PvE.
Mostly because I am tired of all the douchebaggery that occurs on PvP servers. That and the elitest attitude that the VAST majority of PvPers or "so called" PvPers have.
Their community just brings the over all feel of the game down to a diluted mass of basement virgins all sitting in a corner comparing [filtered] sizes ... or computer specs. I'd hazard a guess at the latter of those two options myself.
They way things are going I doubt you will have much trouble being on a pvp server. Also pvp servers aren't necessarily low population. There will always be several pvp servers with high population.
You said you don't mind being ganked and you want some pvp so that seems clear to me that you belong on a PvP server.
I would say there is likely going to be MORE pve servers but that doesn't mean that the pvp ones will be almost empty. I have used pvp servers my entire MMO life and I always seem to have tons of people on my servers.
Whether is it pvp or pve if there are enough low population servers they will end up being merged to increase population so if you end up on a low population server it is likely that you will be merged in with another server.
Don't play on a pve server because you fear a low population. There are plenty of us PVP people to fill good quality pvp servers. There ends up being many PvE server mergers too so play on the type of sever that suites you.
As I said there will be plenty of high quality, high population pve and pvp servers so just chose the one that is best for you. And that sounds like a pvp server.

I will be joining a pvp server if I chose to play. (undecided because of a few issues, but it WILL be pvp if I do play)
PVE servers WILL be more popular... But there will be more of them. Even if it's 5 Pve servers to one PvP server it doesn't mean the pvp servers will be empty. If it's 5 pvp servers and 10 pve servers there will always be a few dominant servers. Even if it's 4 of the pve and only 2 of the PvP.
Pick what you want to play on, there will be enough people to be on those servers.
I will never play on a PvP server... I do like PvP but not the Cluster-f@ck that is PvP servers... I like to enjoy games on my own terms, and not get ganked after finishin a mob fight,or by way higher level people with small penises...
I know that some people like the thrill of it, and consider anyone who don't "Carebears" but I just don't enjoy it that way so, I shall roll on a PvE server and PvP on my own terms...
If EME does keep its promise of RPPvE come launch/open beta, I will be playing there. If they come out with an RPPvP server, I'll likely play there as well, or transfer my characters (if possible).
As for what I expect to be most popular?
If they remove the level scaling to encourage low-level PvP, then PvP servers will be the most popular.
If not, PvE is likely to win by a landslide.

--Probably a PvP server as this game is so centered around the political system / combat. I would think most folks are here for the epic PvP battles and to enjoy PvE on their time away from PvP

Somebody did a survey like this back on the old boards and it was around even, both kinds preferred.
Ever since the original UO, I've had a strong dislike of PvP for a variety of reasons, and so I'll be PvE all the way. But that's just me; everyone has their personal preferences.
I'm mostly a PvEr, but I'm definately rolling on a PvP server, just so I can hunt griefers and PKers and put those [filtered]s in their place. I may join a PKK guild, or maybe even create one, get elected as Vanarch of Arcadia and ensure that it stays a lowbie-friendly zone.
