I thkn I considered it, and then I looked at the price. Then I decided to buy the 6mo and a SSD instead. Worked out great.
I went monthly. Can just gold farm and buy a chrono scroll every month.... 3 chrono scrolls is all I will need to buy anyway.
Well when I bought my sub I was under the impression the chronoscrolls would actually cost a good chunk of gold, not something I could farm up in a couple hours. I doubt I will resub for this reason. I will just use scrolls, no sweat off my back.
Oh well chronoscroll arent the only reason really. Those billing issues and the placement of a cash shop before more important things was also the deciding factor.
@Nerelith (not quoting because I always mess it up).
TBH, my 'slant' is because, even though we CAN walk with our wallets, the business model is here to stay; every MMO, free-to-play or pay-to-play, has some form of cash shop. Some are more 'greedy' than others, but the point is; it's here to stay, unfortunately.
Unless we get new companies and teams in that are willing to ignore the income a cash shop can bring and go back to the 'old' days of 'if you want it, earn it in game', you're going to be hard pressed to avoid finding a cash shop in most MMOs. It's the new business model. It sucks, but there you go.
So that's my slant, really--that I doubt ANY MMO that has or considers a cash shop currently will avoid implementing one. You'll need new blood that finds making some of their company revenue that way distasteful and is willing to avoid it. Tera/BlueHole/EME is never going to be that company, so constantly bringing it up does no good. Hence the dead horse analogy
...Although I suppose it gives us all something to do on a weeknight. ;)
Anyway, the other point is; yeah, Tera is flawed big time...but the game itself? Is something enjoyable to play. So although I really don't give much thought to the cash shop either way in regards to myself, I still like the game enough to support it--at least until my sub runs out. Will I ever use the cash shop? Probably not. I like messing around with my character's looks, but it won't kill me if I can't have certain features attached (Seriously--I really DO go play in SL if I want to mess around with making my AVI look good without spending a fortune--lot cheaper, better choices, and honestly, very realxing).
But I'm also not going to avoid playing a somewhat unique MMO (at least in looks and battle mechanics), that is probably not going to last. I'll enjoy it while it's here--I just won't let my wallet 'encourage' the extraneous stuff I don't agree with. I guess for me, life is too short to tilt at windmills--I'd rather enjoy the lake next to them.

I was patient through the billing issues, and CS was extremely helpful to me whenever I contacted them about it, which was nice, considering at the time so many people had complaints about them. To me the stores existence is non issue because not all the hands that work on TERA are going to be working on the same thing. The people that got the cash shop implemented are the ones who are going to be working on bug fixes or fixing in game issues. I just didn't like how they made skins single use, it shows nothing but greed and a lack of respect for the players.
Why are people against me paying $10 for different looking weapons?
Please tell me why. :(
Some people aren't
Some people feel that they are entitled to all the content the developers make because they pay a subscription and that said content should be available through in game feats or achievements.

I know I mean seriously. I payed $10 for a cool looking weapon skin. Everyone else has the option to pay for said skin and anything else in the cash shop. No one is not able to .
Oh and people say "Oh well we already pay $15 a month for the game."
Well... I pay $100s for an airline ticket, but whenever I want to upgrade to first class I have to pay extra. It's a perk, just like my weapon skin. It doesn't really do anything. I get to the same location. But I don't hear people in economy class complaining they don't get the same level service.
People should stop complaining. If you cannot afford to spend $10 (THE PRICE OF A PIZZA) on a one time weapon skin that you want, you may have issues financially. Also please come to the understanding that you do not need this weapon skin or anything from this shop. Do I need the $10 weapon skin for my Elin Warrior? No. I really don't. And in all honest I most likely should have bought some food with that $10. But I didn't, I like to spoil myself. Seriously, please for the love of this game do not start to complain what people spend their money on. I have my money and you have yours. We both can do what we want with it. And I choose to blow it on this game.
*Edit... Just checked Guild Wars 2 Guru and I am able to purchase 10 Random loot Bags for 550 gems. 400 Gems will cost about 4.80 euros, which is about $.01 per gem. So I can spend $12 and get 10 bags filled with Random loot. Therefore I just payed $12 for items which may be epics. I just payed for my gear. Enjoy Guild Wars 2. :) *
/End rant.

- Reason: Internet reasons.
The point is, players used to pay $15 per month and get everything. Now we pay $15 per month and get "almost" everything. For those who have never known anything else, that's perfectly acceptable. For those of us who remember, it leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
It's a weird industry, in this regard. Usually, a feature comes "optional" first, then becomes "standard" as it becomes more and more common. The consumer eventually demands that a feature comes standard, once that feature is desirable enough, and efficient/cheap enough that the industry can viably make it standard.
In the gaming industry in general, things that used to come standard, now come optional. It's completely backwards. We've entered into an age of gaming where almost all games are released incomplete, with "downloadable content" released at a later date, which 10 or 15 years ago would have been included in the initial release (bonus characters, levels, mission packs, etc.) We have cash shops in MMOs, some of which offer statistical advantages over players who don't choose to spend the extra money. We have "Game Sequel X" which, in reality, is just a less buggy version of the original, with only slight updates to game content. And the consumer just lays down and lets it happen. Probably because such a huge demographic of gaming is children and young adults, who aren't as savvy or confident, and who sometimes aren't paying with their own money.
Tera: cash shop that gives you skins, nothing more.
GW2: Going to have expansions you have to pay for to get more content
Tera: We don't know yet as to HOW an "expansion" will be handled
I especially love your little idiotic point of free to plays that offer item in cash shop that are also available in game. Because 99% of the time that is pay to win (potions/scrolls/gear), and most of the time the vanities are not obtainable in any way shape or form within the game without money(PWI more money spent = faster horse, but here it is 25$ for just a skin lolwat I DEMAND 500 SPEED!).
Keep trying, an failing, HARD.
You never played GW1 did you? I ask because Guild Wars is put out by arenanet. And that may be a subsidiary of NCSoft...but NCSoft Basically allows it to develope the Guild wars franchise anyway they wish. Mostly because it makes them money.
See here is the thing... I played Gw1 for years, and never paid for anything other than the expansions... never bought a single pay to win item. Not a one.
I did some reasearch Into the cash shop in Gw2. And all i saw were either vanity items...or convenience items... things Like " 10 % extra xp for one Hour. Things like that. I find it laughable that you call that pay2 win.
What because someone gets to level cap 10 % faster, that means that when they go PvP, and everyone is level cap... they will have some advantage over someone that hit level cap...without the 10 % xp bonus potions??
Seriously.
You do not understand the issue I have... it is not whether the items are ONLY weapon skins... or Only Vanity items, so you can save your fingers. Even if every single item is purely Vanity, it is still a p[roblem for me.
1. I do not give a rat's behind if there are no Stat boost items On the cash shop...since I happen to LOVE Vanity Items.... The fact is... some items... are exclusively on the cash shop. That means that content that should be In game to be earned by everyone... is instead being sold for cash. This means that EME has a vested interest to withold Content from the game.... because it sells for real world cash.
2. Tera is already charging me a monthly. The main reason I used to pay monthlies was to get away from the whole cash shop thing. Now...if I have to choose between a Game Like Tera....
Subscription based + cash shop, that sells exclusively cash shop items even if 100 % of the items are " vanity items.." or...
Buy the game... free2play + cash shop...all items In said shop purchaseable for in game gold, or otherwise available from in game play....
sorry... but The sub + cash shop loses... it's Not a Model i am gonna support.
it is clear we are just arguing passed one another, you will never agree with me, and I will never agree with you... I just wish you had played MMO's before this insanity invaded the MMO genre..
If you would have told me that some day people would pay,...to NOT play the game... and support a Model that worsens said game...and Genre, i would have asked where I could also get the drugs these people were on...
Just goes to show... with the right promotion you can get people to gargle vomit, and love it, pay you for it... and thank you for it as well... they crap on your head, and you pay for it, and thank them for the hat...
PS: Considering Independance day just passed, it is Ironic you find tilting at windmills a waste of time or effort, with zero chance of any kind of effect, since... many that saw the struggling colonies try to take on the Most powerful empire of it's time, considered what they were doing..exactly that. They tilted at windmills, so you could enjoy the lake next to it.

Thank you for the well thought out, and reasoned responce. It is nice to get one that is not full of insults or trolling :-)
You misunderstood what Business Model I am not supporting.
I have nothing against Cash shops. I have nothing against a cash shop that only sells vanity items, as Long as those items are also part of game play, and therefore available through nothing but in game play.
I have nothing against cash shops that Increase xp gained for a Limited time, I have notheing against cash shops that increase the gold drop per kill... etc.....
My main concern is twofold.
1. Cash shop IN a Subscription based game.... My subscription pays for all content already. And Labeling it a " vanity item" does Not make it NOT Content.
2. Cash shop In a subscription based game that has items On it, that cannot be aquiared any other way other than swiping a Credit card.
So You say " all mmo's have cash shops" if i am understanding you correctly.... if i am not i am sorry if I mischaracterized your point.
All I know is Gw2... may have a cash shop...but it's existence is justified.
1. There is No subscription, and it needs to make money somehow.
2. The items on the cash shop can also be acquired through in game play.
you seemed to think My issue was the cash shop...if tera were ( and as things look , sadly will be in time..) free2play.... I would not care about the existence of the cash shop. But since it is charging a Monthly that makes the issue totally different.
PS: It is Ironic that you look down at tilting at windmills, since the July 4th Holiday just passed. The fact is, the colonies had decided to make war with The Most Powerful Empire of the time.
Many considered it tilting at windmills. Just saying.... They tilted at windmills, so you could enjoy the lake next to it. I wonder if we can appreciate the fact that they did not see it the way you did... and how good for us both, that they did it anyway.
