Well Trion is the best gaming company cause they are not money hungry and they actually keep adding fun stuff into their game so often. They have FREE character appearance changes and free server transfers. What can beat that?

Uhhhh, free something something something.
I agree Trion did a good job with RIFT, to bad I didn't find the gameplay engaging enough. I left WoW because of WoW, and RIFT felt like going from one fire to another.

The more experience I have with other MMOs the more I've come to appreciate Trion. Guaranteed content patches every 6-8 weeks, no cash shop, free transfers, free character recustomization, etc. Unfortunately, the game was simply too raid focused for me and I felt it lacked sufficient incentive to keep non-raiders engaged at max level. However, if they had Tera's combat I would resub in a split second and never look back.

Oh and Calypso one last thing

there you go, now you can look at the pretty art... for "free" for as long as you like.

God damn, that looks so amazing!! I'd happily pay another $25 on top of what I paid for that!!

As long as everything stays cosmetics/mount/pet-ish, then I will support it.

How come it's not okay to add things that affect your game, but it's okay to add things that negatively affect someone else's game?

You know, customization and character appearance is a huge part of an MMO, whether that's your own primary drive or not. It's entirely unfair to ask people who love the modifying of one's character's look the most to shoulder the burden of a cash shop.

Geee, I don't know... Ummm... Maybe for the fact that your purchasing skill by doing that and receiving an unfair advantage. Whereas, when you purchase vanity items your purchasing a look and not a stat/enhancement advantage.

WOW didn't had an item shop until WOTLK, it also didn't feature as many items as Tera NA has.
Also keep in mind WOW provided you with what 100+ mounts to farm, 100+ pets and later on a lot of vanity junk to top it off.

There was enough fluff to farm your self crazy, so who cares if they sell a few items then?

Tera doesn't have a lot of fluff neither does it have a lot of content.
Instead of using these items as content they sell it all while they offer very little for a P2P game.

That's why this is different and in all honesty I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept to grasp.

I fully support the cash shop so long as it doesn't sell anything that gives an advantage in battle. Mounts, skins, race/sex change, I'm fine with.

While I don't know TERA's numbers, I do know it doesn't have WoW's numbers.

A MMO with 10million+ subs will do things differently than a MMO with 100k subs.

It's just cosmetics, nothing that affects gear/stats/etc. so NO.

Since the game is designed around gold to advance in endgame, chronoscrolls will make buying better gear/stats with real life money a 2-step process.

It's probably necessary to bolster revenues as bored players leave before they're able to implement the new ktera stuff, and was announced all along so it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

The new trend of subscription + cash shop is disturbing though.

Then don't buy it, it's just appearance items.

Whether there should exist such a thing as a cash shop aside, I take exception to the fact that 'cosmetics' get lumped off in a "doesn't matter" category with respect to content. For some of us, cosmetic items are as important a thing to strive for as gear for raids, or ranking on some PvP ladder.

In my opinion, once you have a cash shop, you should put 'everything' in it. PvP and Raid folks (combat oriented, I suppose) would cry P2W. But from where I sit, fun armor templates, horses, swinning suits, hats, deck chairs, cats, houses, paintings, tables, chairs, et al are 'advancement' items to me, and if we were to put all those things in the game, like your armor with great stats, and the only way for me to get a cat was to go use some taming skill on wild cats for 6 months...or, go buy a cat for $25, well...isn't that also P2W?

Not everyone defines 'winning' the same way you (or Charlie Sheen) does. :)

I'll agree with the cosmetic items being important to peoples gameplay (or as art) arguments when there are absolutely no vanity items in game already. Since there are ways to changes armor/weapon skins, and there are vanity items then it's not a very good argument. You're not saying 'I want there to be in-game vanity items!' you are saying 'I want everything to be in-game vanity!’. These are two vastly different things. You’re unhappy that you can't get that vanity item, and that's fine. Be unhappy, but don't go around saying you can't change your skins at all, or that they are withholding content from you (though vanity items are hardly content).

If our characters had no remodeling options, or came as plain gray models then I’d agree with this argument. Fortunately this is not the case, and all the cash shop skins are is a different option.

Edit: Also if you're playing Tera, or any MMO solely for the vanity items, perhaps you have the wrong genre of game. While I agree it is part of it, if it's the sole deciding factor of whether you play or not, then a genre change would be good.
