Confusion:
con·fu·sion/kənˈfyo͞oZHən/
Noun:
1.Lack of understanding; uncertainty.
2.A situation of panic; a breakdown of order: "the shaken survivors retreated in confusion".
Synonyms:
disorder - muddle - mess - bewilderment - muss
The Warrior class seems to be the most confusing class in the game bar none, no other class can hold a candle to the Warriors ability to break down order, or create a lack of understanding. In fact the only thing in Tera more confusing are the Popori and a close third are High Elf men.
Warriors can Tank / Warriors can DPS
This phrase alone is responsible for the majority of the warriors power (or lack thereof) in TERA. It's such a matter-of-fact statement. It implies absolutes. Yes you can, tank. Yes you can, DPS. Giving a general audience such a blatant permission is not only an inherent fault but it's also poor design at it's most dismal gloom. You never tell people they can do something unless you make sure they can, otherwise you're just begging for confusion to happen. So either through malice or ignorance the Warrior class is designed to degenerate game-play via implied and overt allowance of ability.
The fact is. Most people who play as a Warrior know neither how to DPS or tank. Failing miserably in both roles by trying to do both or even by a simple lack of personal skill combined with the Internets inherent disregard for social accountability. More times than not, the Warrior class is the errant bolt of lightning that starts a wildfire which consumes homes and damages everything for no reason at all, socially speaking.
Now the fact is a player who is geared, glyph-ed, and crystal-ed for tanking is at least half way there to competence. The other half comes from personal skill, knowledge, and ability. It can also be said the same goes for the other side of the Warrior coin: DPS. Yet far too many people are being tricked from the inherent weakness that comes from a hybrid system like this. In many ways the Warrior class is clearly designed for failure.
I think a lot of this dissonance stems from how MMO's play and the divergence from real world paths as to what works best. In the real world, being very good at a lot of things is much better than being the best in just one thing. Yet, in the structure used for MMO's the opposite holds true. Content is designed intently to cater to parties of players each excelling in one role and one role alone. This is an MMO problem. Truth be told, the Warrior class is amazing, however, in the frame of a specialization based party focused MMO Warriors face the burden of being a square peg in a round hole (or is it a round peg in a triangle hole).
So, why did I place this in GD? It's clearly a class issue it should be in the class forums, right?
No. Wrong. Good day, Sir.
You see, this is a TERA problem, a TERA issue. If we stuff this away in the class forums it becomes "another thread about warriors" and my goal is certianly vastly divergent from such a point. I want Warriors to fit into TERA and the only way to do that is to change the rest of the game. To be fair, Warriors do not need a revamp, while perhaps some polish is needed, the point of contention I have is that TERA should fit Warriors.
We have an amazing class that should be desired in every party. People should be thrilled they no longer need to go out of their way to find the traditional tank. Warriors should be empowering people to do content while minimizing the downsides. Yet, this is not the case. At this point in time please give me a Lancer or any DPS over a Warrior. In fact, TERA would be a better game at least in the scope of internal consistency if Warrior was totally removed from the game. However, that's the easy and lazy path.
I totally hate Warriors. They make me want to write massive threads with the end goal of reshaping an entire MMO to fit them. I hate Warriors because I love the classes design so much and right now keeping them means tons of work. I want to play that version of TERA where getting a Warrior is a good thing, a benefit, a bonus. I want warriors capable of tanking on the same level as a Lancer or DPS'ing like a Slayer.
But, MMO's are social games and it's the community that decides these things not one person who can be bothered to write a giant post. This is the part where I ask all of you a simple question.
TL:DR If reading this was difficult, please go die.
Do we keep Warriors and make TERA work with them, or should we just drop them and forget about the whole thing? Have a third option?
