Why there are so many complaints about the classes?

Just my 2 cents.

The problem with TERA is that they lock the class you choose into a role. If your a lancer your a tank, if your a warrior your DPS, etc. etc. You don't exactly get to choose a specific fighting class than you like and then set the roles yourself. You have to play as a tank or dps or a healer or whatever.

There just isn't that much class depth to the game which in some aspects sucks because it makes everything cookie cutter. What double sucks is when you may dislike a certain class but to play a certain role you HAVE to choose that class.

It just seems very limiting although I like most of the classes I can understand a lot of the arguments and troubles with matching dungeon groups and grouping behavior trying to fit together the perfect team. What I didn't expect about Tera was it to be a "new" game but with "old" problems. With the current class roster it would be nice to set roles for them. So if you wanted to tank you could choose tanking skills if you wanted to DPS you can choose DPS skills or if you're really on your game you can mix and match. That would be a lot of fun.

May the trinity be with you.

most games fail at trying to deviate from it. Frogster once had a cool idea , but so poorly managed the release it died right away. Look up the chronicles of spellborn.

I think you missed the point kid. This aint about classes it's about options for those classes.

Will that allow you to tank with a beserker or slayer?

Warrior is the only class they really gave a real choice. It's a pity, as Zerker could have easily been made an effective off-tank and Mystic a unique supporting role. But they can't, they're stuck as DPS and healer. Not sure why Lancer can't have the glyphing options to up their DPS at the expensive of tanking power either. Not saying some classes shouldn't be better at things than others, but choice makes things more fun for everyone and makes getting groups together easier.

As the topic says, being locked into one role means if another class is better at that role...well you're screwed aren't you?

Wuhhhh??? The combat gives it amazing depth. Each class has it's own distinct style so replaying a new class lends a whole new element to re leveling, and because there is a dependency on skill and movement you're never, ever truly done mastering your class. I don't need extra roles to complicate matters because leveling isn't all that slow anyway.

Problem with what's being suggested is you risk trivializing the difference between classes. Not fun for those of us who like to hop onto alts to get a different experience when they're all pushed and molded into being able to do everything as equally as the other classes.

@Lwlyss
This is fine and well and lower levels, but as you approach endgame suddenly people want the 'best' to make the endgame grind go as a fast as possible. What happens if your class is not the 'best'? Well read all the archer and zerker complaint threads to see how that ends. Class balance patches are few and far between. How long is it going to take for the gap between sorc/archer and slayer/zerker to get addressed? People hitting 60 and getting booted from groups are getting disgusted and will leave the game for good. This could have been avoided if there were more to these classes than how much DPS they do.

@Regpuppy
I should have been clearer, but I'm not saying everyone should be able to be DPS/healer/tank. However classes need to stand out more from others than they do right now, otherwise you get too much redundency and need constant balance tweaks to keep everyone happy. Instead they could have had options to give, say, archer a more cc heavy build or Mystic an uber buffer/debuffer/DoT with only weak healing role. The glyph system is there to support this, but for most classes it is pure cookie-cutter. People would instantly boot you if you told them your Mystic wasn't specced with all the healing glyph upgrades, and they'd have good reason to. This is the problem, this is what stagnates games; the few choices you have to make are false choices. You don't actually have any choice, there are basically one or two viable specs per class and that's it. Warrior is the ONLY class in the game that gets real choices right now. It is the only one you can build a completely different role depending on how you glyphed.
