I have a perfect solution that is fair to everyone.
Make it so people who would want to use LFD to do instances have that ability, and people who don't, don't use it and stick with their friends and guild mates... wait what?
Terrible idea. Giving people the freedom of choice paves the way to a dead game! You can only play the game in a way a vocal minority tells you to play this game despite a feature being in the game already. Rabble rabble.

Robble Robble indeed my friend. We should all be more concerned with what other random players are doing at ALL times or we can't be happy. Join the mmorpg gypsys who travel from game to game trying to indoctrinate like Borg. Resistance are FUTILE!

Yeah guys, let's make it so that anyone that doesn't play like us has a next to impossible time finding a group outside of guilds/friends! Let's also make it next to impossible for new people on our servers to meet outside of PvP or completely random interaction! /sarcasm
Also: "Vocal minority" If you're talking cross server vs not cross server, you're wrong on that accusation, according to the 3 different poles people have posted.
the problem with saying the system is a choice is that it isn't, why because its leaving a split server population meaning as hard as it is to find a group that your complaining about to find a group, a split population makes it that much harder.
so in the end its an all or nothing situation, either have the system or not.
Yes!!! I'm a player from WoW and I loooove the dungeon finder! In fact, I HATE the idea of not having a dungeon finder, cuz I don't wanna take more than 30 seconds to get inside an instance, geez! Who cares about community? this is the 21st century, nobody plays MMOs to make friends anymore, that's so 90s! It's all about gear and personal achievements now!
SO, being that I hate not having a dungeon finder, let's indoctrinate everybody from every game like borg to the wonders of RDF! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! And if someone is against my ideas let's just say they are elitist snobs who don't want me to play like I want to.
Because I should have the freedom to not be accountable for anything I do in an online game, and if I want to play only with complete random strangers who I don't give a [filtered] about what they think of me (why should I? in 30 minutes I'll be out of their sights forever) I should be able to! Well, the community aspect of the game will go down the drain? SO WHAT? I DON'T CARE! The only thing that matters is how *I* want to play, of course!!! MMOs are not about community or being social, and I think WoW, RIFT and many others already left that completely clear!!!
So stop being a complete jerk and upgrade your thoughts to the 21 century!
Wow, I really did not want to get involved in this discussion, but there is too much ignorance going around on both sides, so I need to speak up. So far, this man below has brought forth the ONLY reason for a cross-server LFD:
1. Low player count for the zone.
2. Gated progression through tiers.
3. Players not playing at peak population times.
Those are extremely valid points. I think we have a solution here, though that should appease both sides. Please provide feedback, but keep ignorance out of it.
We already are fairly certain that EME is planning some sort of LFD tool. I think there is a solution that will allow for server community growth while also protecting PvP, shortening queue times, and giving access to outlier situations.
We start out with the instant someone queues, they are entered into a LFD queue that is only on their server. This tool will attempt to make a group for you based on anyone else in your server also using the tool. If you get a group within 10 minutes, the group is formed and the party is teleported to the nearest town to the dungeon in the same channel. From there the players walk in.
Say you don't find a group within 10 (negotiable) minutes. You are automatically placed into a cross-server queue from which your party can be formed. This should fix any weird hour or content situations while still trying to keep the party on the server. Once your group is formed, anyone from your server is teleported to the nearest town in the same channel. From there you run to the entrance.
Now, there is a definite problem here that I have not thought out fully yet, and that's how group forming works once you're in the cross-server queue. I would think that as a tank (Assuming they're the limiting factor here) you will enter the queue and pull DPS from your server first, and if you need an extra healer or w/e (after waiting a minute or 2, imo) you pull a random from another server. This would all definitely need extensive testing to make sure there are not bottlenecks, but I think if done properly, it would solve all issues brought up on both sides. Groups are primarily in-server keeping server communities healthy, you have to run 50 feet to the dungeon entrance allowing for OWPvP, you teleport as close as possible without going over, making getting there easy, and for those that play at odd hours, you're guaranteed to find a group eventually.
Anyway, let me know what you think, or if you can think of a way to implement the cross-server section.
This DF better not be on pvp servers i swear to god. Why even have zones they should just make this game play out like vindictus or phantasy star online and be done with it already. Lol this game keeps getting better every day.
Again, why not do something that isn't LFD to fix those problems? Namely side-kicking/ level sync.
This allows older players to revisit content, obtain items for the auction house or just plain help out a newbie. This also doesn't defer to cross realms, so server community is saved.
It basically means that any player from any level can come help you same server (and be rewarded with EXP and such for it.)
Though this idea seems a day late and a dollar short as they've announced LFD.
EDIT: @AlexSkylark: Cmon man, stop with the insults. Doesn't matter how angry you get, insulting doesn't help.
That post was entirely sarcastic, Wolf.
I wasn't insulting anybody, at least to my knowledge o_O
Anyways, I stand completely by you on the Sidekicking / Level Sync idea.
That solves all the problems, and we could just keep the LFG we already have, which is PERFECT.
Now, the problem is that the pepople who say we're castrating their freedom for being against they being spoon fed a group and a dungeon run in a matter of seconds are gonna... well, keep saying we're castrating their freedom for being against they being spoon fed a group and a dungeon run in a matter of seconds.
