Windows 8 no longer working

The things that annoy me about how the TERA client works are two-fold.

I) That is was working fine on Windows 8 (Release Preview) fine and now it is not (all of you haters out there, Release Preview aka Release Candidate is when all software/hardware developers should be pulling their finger out and doing major compatibility testing). It is Microsoft basically saying 'heads up'.

II) That I made a Windows 7 Virtual Machine via VMware Player and tried to launch it only to get an error message from the TERA client saying "Sorry, this application cannot run under a Virtual Machine". So I can't even work around the issue without having to dual boot (I prefer a VM instance within my primary system to dual booting).

Please guys this game is totally boss and I would really like to start enjoying it again.

Likely doesn't apply here...but you could try the steps related to Maple Story on VMWare:
Find the .vmx file in the HOST OS.

VMWare Player (Non Workstation/PC Users): Look for ".VMware virtual machine configuration" instead of ".vmx".

Add the following line to the bottom of the list. Once you are done, save and close the .vmx file.
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "true"

That may remove the "Sorry, this application cannot run under a virtual machine" error at least.

Hum... odd. Now, after a patch, Aion, also, doesn't work anymore on Windows 8.

Some people said both have a few similarities... now this one.

Weird.

Unfortunately, still does not work on Windows 8. Just tried to run the game and get the same error message of not being able to run on a virtual machine.

Windows 7

I'm not responsible for what happens if you follow these directions. Do so at your own Risk!

Tera checks for Virtual Machine Video Drivers and prompts this error when it finds one. I converted my Virtual Machine into a Physical Machine and ran into this error. My solution was to uninstall VMWare Tools and remove the video card driver entries in the registry for the VMware Video Driver.

If you are trying to run Tera and you have a old Virtual Machine video driver that you are NOT using, then you can remove the entries pointing to that driver in the windows registry to fix the issue. If you are USING a VM video driver then you CANNOT do this.

1) Make sure you backup your registry before making changes, as you can seriously mess up your system.

2) Remove the Virtual Machine VGA/SVGA Driver

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\

Find the subkey that has the VGA/SVGA Drivers. You will need to look at the details for entries such as "VMWare VGA Driver" for Vmware, other virtual machines have other types of names

*XXXX*

Once you find the Key, delete it. As I said before if you are using the virtual machine video drivers you CANNOT remove them. This is for instances when you have stale records in your registry.
