Would you let your teen play Tera?

It's my 15 year old son's birthday. He's been wanting Tera for ages now, begging me constantly over the past few months. I always declined his answer, seeing that the game was rated 17+

I've done some research on the game, and from what I saw the game doesn't really seem to deserve the rating. The culprit of the rating (blood) seemed to be able to be turned off in the menu screen, and recent patches have given the Ellin race plenty of clothing so they wouldn't be stared at.

I'll let you decide. Can my son handle it? He already plays WoW and plenty of unrated MMORPGs.

Elin weren't even a problem, some soccer moms just saw it and went berserk.
Yes I would say you should buy your son Tera but if he's already paying a sub for WoW I say cancel one or the other for a couple of months.

Um if he play WoW then IMO he's already expose to the type of community mmo's have. Then sure? It's really isn't that gory, I'd be more worry about the people he interact with than the actual game. I don't know the community that well so maybe stick around and check them out?

My 12 year old son used to play TERA. Your 15 year old son should be fine.

Well the biggest deal for someone under-aged I guess is the clothing for the females:

Elins aren't bad honestly.

The female high elves have large ones that like to bounce around quite a bit.

And the female Castanics wear the least amount of clothing. The "worst" (in that sense) that I've seen so far is:

That armour I linked is incredibly rare/hard to find if that makes a difference.

The blood is barely noticeable (my brother didn't even realize there was blood until I told him, and he almost hit max level).

The biggest thing really is up for you to determine, as a parent, is if your son is mature enough to handle females in beach attire. The fact that he plays wow doesn't really count in this sense, because Tera's character models are so much more realistic.

Hope this helps.

More importantly, is your son mature?

Not a whole lot wrong with Tera. Some blood, some gore, some skimpy clothing. A statue in Velika has nipples.

However, if he acts like a teenager, he might find the community can be quite mean and vicious.

No. Here's why...see that bolded part above? That. If you can't read the lore and know that Elin are adults, then we don't need MORE people basically acting like you, taking away options.

Also, I personally want them to actually let the game be it's rating. Not go the route "we rate it M just in case, but we want to cater to parents with teens who play' It's Mature rated, I want to see it become more in line with the rating.

Just my opinion of course.

if you educate your kids right i don't see why not. its the media that screw everything up.
a man beating and cutting another man in half is Rated "R'. Porno is rated 'X', and breast feeding is bad. something is wrong here.i let my 7 year old niece that play with my elin slayer when i am bored, and i don't see her going crazy and murdering me, and when they ask whats that and whats this i just explain it to her so they can understand things.

By the age of 10-12 your kid will most likely know what "sex" and "porn" is, I think parents are less aware of just how much their kids know these days thanks to the internet and media.

I can't believe you even mentioned Elin clothing. Let me counter your ridiculous question with another one. Is your son old enough to go to the pool or beach? Because those wear skimpier outfits than Elins ever wore.

And I'll tell you a secret. Age really does not matter at all. It just means that if your son is retarded, he'd be able to play at 17. But if you have a gifted son, he can probably handle it at age 12 no problems. After all, I'm sure he browses porn when you aren't around.
