there's always gonna be that certain # of ppl who get absolutely rayped by bad luck.
u can say "oh but thats balenced by the ppl who got really good luck". and thats true in the overall,
but it sure as hell doesnt make it feel any better being the guy who gets screwed to know "well other ppl had better luck".
to me its very stupid to not program some kinda limit to it, where its RNG but you can only fail certain # of times per enchant lvl per item. that way ppl know there is a absolute limit to how much they gotta grind even if theyre having super bad luck.
What Hestia said. It's a gold sink, but at least you're not LOSING anything. +9-12 should be something you're just doing to top off your gear once you've gotten it all, and it shouldn't be an overnight process.
If it were up to me I wouldn't allow the following.
Critical hits (RNG)
Enchanting (RNG)
Glyphs (RNG)
Crystals (for the most part ((RNG)))
Any drops (RNG)
So basically all skills alays do the same damage, every character gets the same gear from quests. Money is silly so all monsters will have 100% chance to drop everything. No critical hits or anything that might give an advantage based on chance. You get the idea.
RNG is okay as combat mechanics in most situations because it's over the course of hundreds, maybe even thousands, of hits while in combat. If you have a 50% chance to crit, you may not critical hit 50% every time, but the overall average will be close enough to 50%.
This, however, hurts when it comes to enchanting. 5%, or whatever else number it is to enchant to +9, may take hundreds of times due to probability. It's just not fun.
Again, I still think they should treat enchanting more like "leveling" or "powering" up gear. Give it a set amount per enchant. For instance, after +6 require 2 gold weapons (50% each item/alkahest), and +7 require 4 (25%), etc. I don't know, make it even out, but remove the RNG aspect. It would be more enjoyable, knowing the result, rather than sitting at the edge of your chair thinking, "Why did I just spend a couple thousand gold doing this? There goes several hours of my life wasted."
Gear is still required to be competitive in this game. Skill is only so much of a requirement.
This is pretty much the exact same argument some made for eliminating loot tables in WoW. Just give every boss x number of tokens, and let people grind the tokens and trade them in. Blizzard's response was "F that, sounds boring as hell". And you know what? Blizz is probably right. I doubt such a system would hold people's attentions for long.
Just wanted to tell you that I will not re-subscribe after the first free month due to the stupid enchanting system this game promotes.
I am really sorry to say this, and somehow I feel ashamed of myself, but this enchanting system has actually turned me into a korean grinder that literally spends 10 hours + / day (when I have the necessary time) in order to get gold so I can get my gear enchanted.
Currently I am trying to get my weapon from +7 to +8 and I am soon starting to close in 25k+ gold wasted so far in the process. And I still didn't get +8 yet.
Everytime I am broke .. Everytime I get around 800-900 gold out of grinding I get myself a new gold weapon from AH, the required green alkahest and I start the enchanting praying I will not hear the failing sound again.
But this is absolutely too much for me. I actually can't stand this anymore, I am not having ANY MORE FUN in this game due to this enchantment [filtered]. I am actually really frustrated about it and this will probably be the main reason I am going to quit this game if the enchantment system doesn't get changed.

Random ≠hard
How anyone can still think it does is beyond all logic.
The best Tera player on the entire planet earth will not get their gear enchanted faster than the worst, and THAT sucks.
(and no, it doesn't take skill to grind for gold: tedious also ≠hard)
The problem is that T13 gear is stil rare on our server and hard modes such as BT or FOK are only ''doable'' if you are 147+ ilvl . (probably meaning +9 ?). I know it sounds stupid but I am actually curious: Can you do BT hard mode or FOK HM with a group of ONLY +6 enchanted players? The ''elitism'' on our server is really stupid and often seen at many players, therefore this was the only reason I wanted those damn enchants. Not because of a stupid glow. Lol [filtered] that glow to be honest.
Well, I apologize for not writing everything that I needed to. My brain got a little lost. This may not be possible but my guilds goal is to get at least +6 everything so we can farm Fane and Balder's Temple and ToT to sell drops. Then wait for the perfect moment to buy the enigmatic tier 13 gear or use Nexus Tier 13 to do Hard Mode. This is our secondary goal if we do not become geared enough to do Balder's. Kind of backwards but maybe it will work. I am always a fan of finding a workaround.
Also, I did not realize that you are an EU player. I am very upset that servers and the internet cannot yet handle cross continent gaming without Lag.

1. This isn't WoW.
2. This game already counters WoW's loot drop system by making most of the gear BOE...
3. You can argue that it's boring the way I stated, but you can also argue that it's boring with the current system. The difference? One system is guaranteed, while the other system is RNG. It is completely possible to go from +6 to +9 with 3 golds and 36 alkahests (T12), but what does this say about the mechanics.
You want to keep bringing up "other" games. Go check out SWTOR and their PVP bags for BM gear. That was changed because they had thousands upon thousands of issues with PVP gear progression.
It will happen here, too. I will tell you why. The casual players -- the ones more casual than the ones already 60 -- will eventually be playing. They will be kicked from groups, told their gear isn't good enough. Since they do not play more than a few hours a day, if that (maybe 5-10 a week) they are going to be extremely disgruntled. They'll never have the gold to upgrade their gear, if they can even get it.
