Culture does play a huge role, I admit. Forget about "game community" for a second and realize just how terrible our society is as a whole compared to the Japanese. When TERA was released in Japan there was a huge influx of players doing newbie quests.
One example in particular you know of is near Lumbertown where you have to attack a Unicorn to 30%, tame it, then escort it to a fairy camp. This photo is a screenshot of how the Japanese actually created a line for people to finish their quest in the starter area as a symbol of respect for each other.
Sure, it doesn't explain why the hell they didn't just form a group, but the point is that here in NA you'd see this same screenshot with people standing on top of the quest mob spawn-point spamming AE abilities to tag it first. Whenever I see the discussion of game community I just laugh to myself because I know that a good one here doesn't really exist. But that's another topic, I suppose.
Indeed, but that's apple and oranges either way.
I don't expect us to get that same kind of stance, especially since you know how americans are. And I play on a PVP server where you will usually get ganked if you hang around alone. (And I solo all across the map, all the time.)
Either way it goes, how each of us in player preference find as an issue in our culture is our own problem. However, they have to most likely help shape the game the best way they can to benefit it within our culture, so i'm sure it will be different.
Though, like I said earlier, this is ALL in consideration of how long this leash is with them and the original company or even if they bought the game from the original company to publish it within Na and the like. (Two very different things, just in case any onlookers are reading this.)
From what I'm aware of, it seems these guys are still linked to the original creators, much like just a messenger envoy bringing their stuff into another country and the like. And within that, it's all in how much the original company allows them what to do. And this can differ from company to company.
I've had a lot of previous history with this kind of stuff and a prime example, for the normal readers, to know what he's talking about is PSU. (Phantasy Star Universe.)
SoA followed SoJ EXACTLY in what they said and had no power, even when we told them what was going wrong. And it was until SoJ allowed them, that they did anything about certain things. However, at that point, the damage was done to the community and it went downhill from there in relations from community to GMs and the company/players.
From how Em Masse has pitched things and the way things were done, I feel this may be a different outlook, but like I said earlier, only time will truly tell. And from some of the mentionings here, they DO have developers and most likely scripters as well. So they are capable of doing the work. So it all falls in line of how much they're willing to let them work for our means and needs. And thats something none of us, unless we work there, will know.
However, if you wait in due time, you'll be able to tell from their actions on what they're capable of.
And while you guys may disagree with him, he could possibly be right. I just think it's too early to jump the gun though, because they could be able to do anything. And also, NA is a big release in comparison to other countries, so I'm sure Korea will have to work with us to some extent, unless they don't want all those delicious USDs.
Personally I will play with JP players any day over NA/American etc. The JP are polite, nice welcoming an always fun to play with.
"Some" NA are abusive narcissistic angst ridden ego maniacs.
Take FFXI for instance, before the console players swarmed the servers it was so nice to log in every day, then BAM! 10,000 screaming American teenagers, instantly they started ranting race hate an death to JP etc etc etc, an every bit of filth their little minds could think up. The JP instantly banned every American from their power groups.
Once they knew you were not American you were welcomed constantly into their groups an were always contacted the second you logged into server to see if you wanted to group.
I miss the politeness the formality, an the genuine friendliness of the JP. No NA servers are ever like that.
I'm not trolling, I'm speaking up for the 99%, in the hopes that EME won't be convinced by a few trolls not to implement necessary features like cross server LFD. I actually enjoy Tera and want to see it suceed, so that I can keep playing it. And if they don't put in a Xserver LFD, I don't see Tera doing well in the 2-6 month time frame, because the vast majority of people are not gonna stand for sitting in Q for hours, or spamming chat for groups anymore.
Again witht this 99%. Do you now the 99% personally? Have they given you their permission to speak for them? If not then you DO NOT speak for them.

Hehehehe I remember that. Glad there's more boss-spawns around than just 1 and then waiting for a turn.
