I hear that different races have bigger hit boxes and longer striking ranges than others.

Would that mean that one of them panda guys would make a bad lancer? Would I NEED to be an aman or human to get the best out of a lancer?

Yep, that's all true,. and those are valid concerns.

I'm playing a skinny female elf healer.

Also, the bigger and fatter you are, the easier it is for a healer to lock onto you, as opposed to some flailing fail dps jumping and flipping all over the place on top of you as he tries as hard as he can to kill the dirt and grass next to the mob.

Ah, that is also true to help out the healers. And I guess in pvp to beable to be as big as possible to be as much as a wall as possible to keep their dps from shooting the healers.

Dang, I wanted to be a rat.

That's true, but only partially. The hitboxes of characters in TERA are normalized and averaged between races and genders. This means that the hitbox for an Elin or a Popori would be slightly larger than the physical model, and the hitbox for a Baraka or an Aman would be slightly smaller than the physical model.

In the end, there are still minor differences, but it should be negligible unless you're the type of person who really cares about really marginal advantages.

That was discussed long ago. En Masse confirmed that there are slight differences in hitbox sizes, but nothing game changing. Better to consider the race passives then potential hitbox size to chose your race.
The argument about lock on skills stands though. Easier to see/aim/target a big fatty then the small/skinny jumpy one.

Ah, I will just make my beaver lancer then and hope the healer has played a FPS at some point in his life. And as a tank I get to rage about not getting heals so I will just blame the healer and not my being small :)

Aman are too ick for my tastes but that's what I should probably be to maximize my character....decisions-decisions.
