invisible players....

other players are invisible for the first 10-15 seconds of seeing them (i can only see their names). tried reducing graphic setting but this did not help. any suggestion would be nice as this sucks on a pvp server.

It's a hardware issue. I had the same problem -- tons of gray forms, half of Velika's playerbase was invisible or gray, a virtual stampede of riderless horses everywhere.

Upgraded my computer and have seen one whole gray form (from the sky while in flight over a large number of players, lasted just long enough for me to notice it) and no invisible ones yet. Perhaps some spec listings might help, as well as what UI options you've enabled (performance crowd control, for instance).

It's not a hardware issue, it's how their engine works. You will "see" invisible players and gray NPCs regardless of how awesome or ancient your system is.

A lot of games have this problem (although I don't think the developers see it as a problem).. Tera, Vindictus, FFXI, FFXIV to name a few. Heck, even on modern systems it can take up to a minute for a populated scene in FFXI (which is an old game) to completely render everyone in it. If you're thinking "hey, aren't those all games developed outside NA?", you're probably not the only one. I've speculated that this is just something their audience accepts as being normal out east, where as over here in the west it just looks broken/lazy.

Buy a new high end pc and there is no such thing as grey npc, grey players, invisible players etc.

I am running everything on maximum on my desktop 80+ fps (even velika) and I have no problem, even with 100 players I see every npc, every player what so ever
But my notebook which is not so good, cant handle it and I see grey players, npcs ..

So its hardware issue. Because if you high good pc you can see everything, if you have bad pc ... you have put settings on low and you see less npcs, players are grey etc, because of bad loading of texture and low fps

So edgeTO this proves again how useless and lame your posts are ... right?

Although I don't agree with Waiden often, I'm going to here. Like I said, it's a hardware issue. Not a -faulty- hardware issue, but a -poor- hardware issue. My i5-2500k GTX560ti has shown a staggering one gray form, for a split second, in flight from above in the area of a massive battle as I mentioned before. This, going from most of Velika being unable to be seen. Now, a certain portion of it does indeed come from the engine and how it populates the area, but that is going to happen with ANY engine. Be grateful they're not using the HERO engine, for instance. But the primary problem is that, even when lowering settings, there are too many different assets to keep in mind. If you're seeing grays, then the placeholders are rendering but the second pass/detail pass isn't getting up to speed. If you're seeing invisibles, then there isn't even enough processor power/memory to place all the gray renders.

Note that we don't have a stats listing for the OP's machine, nor any idea on whether they've got crowd performance enabled or not, or -anything- of that sort.

My wifes machine is better than mine and she definitely sees much less issues than I do.

Incorrect. First, players do not get gray placeholders until they load in. Only NPCs get that treatment. Players are simply not rendered (other than their names, and mounts if they're on one) until they load in.

The fact that you couldn't even get this detail correct.. well, you said it best: "So.. this proves again how useless and lame your posts are ... right?"

Apparently I disagreed with you on another topic and now you're sore about it. I guess you found the experience memorable.

I think the point is also being missed. The fact is players can experience this problem while the client appears to be running smoothly. As the original poster explained, lowering graphical options doesn't fix the problem. Nobody is saying "sometimes players don't render quickly when my game is chugging along at 10 FPS". You can be getting 60 FPS and still see have NPCs and player avatars and NPC textures loading in slowly. I switch from preset 6 to preset 0 and still have this issue.

The game is failing in that it prioritizes performance over player preference, even when told not to. There is an option in the UI (Overpopulation Optimization) for stabilizing performance, particularly in crowds. If someone chooses not to use it because they prefer to see who exactly is charging at them in a PvP environment, even if it causes a temporary hit to performance, then that's what the game should be doing. And yet it doesn't, even when the PC limit is set to "unlimited" and only a handful of characters are in the area.

Someone mentioned the Hero Engine above, which I agree hasn't been even remotely impressive in SWTOR, but at least it manages to keep everyone populating the scene rendered. So what does it say when Tera can't?

Me and my buddy just got new rigs, completely decked out and almost identical. He pops out of CR and every single player in the area loads within 4 seconds. This includes all the players that are out a little further from the portal as well. Well over 100 hundred players. It takes me roughly 15-20 seconds in order to load the exact same players. The idea that you can just upgrade your computer to something great and it works, is incorrect. As far as internet goes, we do have different ISP's, but the speed is negligible between the two.

I would certainly love to know if there is any way to get around this problem at the moment, or if they'll be working something in the future.

I'm bumping this to the top because it is still an issue. I don't know how many times I have been ganked by invisible players and can't even see if I'm doing any damage to them.

My machine can run this game perfectly on level 4 except for loading in other PCs. Loading PCs, especially red flagged PCs, should be my games #1 priority. At least make them like the grey NPCs until they load in.

Bumping again for possible solutions.
