no moving while casting as melee class?

I have not started the game yet but I see that you can not use a skill while running with a melee character or any character for that matter. Doesn't this kind of tie you down and make the fighting kind of clunky? I understand that being able to move while casting would be op for some of the ranged characters but to lock down the melee class? why? i even think that not all of the sorcerer skills should tie you down.

Because it's not very realistic?...

If you fight someone are you seriously going to be running in a circle around them hitting them with your fists? No, because you wont be able to put enough power in a punch.

This is kind of not true as an Archer you can move while you do skills its just much slower

This guy said it best (in regards to GW2's issues, ironically):

Using activation times and mobility extensively for the cost of skills would not only aid in balance but in differentiation. This approach is one method that would act to alleviate the monotony. When skills have an equal cost, as many do at the moment, there is little or no relationship between opportunity and cost; there is therefore little reason to use one skill rather than another in any given opportunity. If more skills required you to channel, take longer to activate, be stationary, or otherwise force you to weigh the costs of your time and positioning versus the benefits of a skill in a given opportunity, then monotony would be reduced, balance would be fine-tuned, skills and skill sets would differentiate and establish identities, and the removal of energy would be further justified. The inclusion of opportunity costs also adds intrigue, and is a tool subject to veteran mastery. It also allows human reasoning to overpower artificial intelligence. Opportunity costs help make fun happen, and fun is ultimately what Guild Wars 2 should be all about.

He's basically describing Tera's combat system.

There is a lack of fluidity in the combat that makes it unrealistic in the purposeful nature of certain combat moves and I find it eliminates the whole point of the unique combat. It reduced it to F1 to F9 when that was what they were trying to get away from.

You can use WASD to create a certain momentum when fighting though. While not quite real it is more lucid than just mashing the specials.

Yeah... I always found stupid when you could strafe and melee at the same time in WoW.
