Stop it already, I will give you the same question as I gave the clown above you:

Say you make bikes for a living and sell them in your neighborhood. You sell me one and a week later I noticed my buddy bought the same bike, but he paid $200 for extra awesomesauce rims that did not come with my bike.
I return to you and tell you to put those $200 awesomsauce rims on for free. Will you do it?

Just because they could micro-transac anything in any game, including mobs does not mean any company will do that. Where gaming buisness is concerned, they will make more money by releasing special mobs in an expansion, because generally more people will buy an expansion rather then a content dungeon package.

It is all about profit, and the premium shop is an alternative money source for gaming industries now-a-days.

You can complain all you want, but the premium shops are here to stay in the gaming world, and as long as they are not clearly giving someone an advantage over others you have no justification for your complaints.

I'm loathe to get into this again, but I'll quickly dismiss this false analogy.

ONCE AGAIN, we are paying a sub for the game, not just a once off payment. A better analogy would therefore be: I'm renting a bike from you. After I've had it for a while you say you can add awesome rims to the bike for $10.

Why would I pay you to upgrade your own bike which I am already renting from you?

Because you wouldn't be able to use said upgrade unless you did?

. . .there have been justifications for them, though they may not have any solid basis. He's just nit picking . . .I'm guessing he just finished an intro to logic class or something. . .I wouldn't bother responding.

Rewording a false analogy doesn't make it any less false.

Exactly. That's why it's a reductio ad absurdum. A line is being drawn between two types of content, where no such distinction actually exists.

Ya, saying I don't doesn't mean I don't. Try harder.

Well this is where the line between the people with and without sense is drawn. Some of course will pay someone to upgrade their own bike. Others will try to convince them not to throw their money away. Such is life.

True enough, hence why spinning rims exist at all.

@Crumplecorn - so how many P2P MMOs have you played lately that you have never known that micro-transactions is part of the norm?

You say these premium items are "just pixels". Guess what, think of all the overhead it cost to make "just pixels".

Concept artist - schooling, place to live, pays for transportation, etc...
Graphic Designer - schooling, place to live, pays for transportation, etc...
EME lead developer - schooling, place to live, pays for transportation, many pondering years being someone elses lacky, many more hours in most of the fields above, etc...
Human Resources - schooling, place to live, pays for transportation, etc...
makes sure these folks get paid, plus makes sure all civil liabilities/rights are looked after, etc...
IT crew who handles the servers - schooling, place to live, pays for transportation, etc...
Insurance, building mortgages, benefits, advertising, electricity, etc...

The list goes on, and on. All these people have to be paid so they can pay their debts. Companies need supplemental income to be able to stay afloat.

All these people plus more I am sure, all their ideas, ingenuity, creativity, allows for you to be able to either view or interact with these so called "just pixels".

People need to learn that even though things end up instantaniously on their monitors, it does not mean there was no vast amount of time, energy and resources are put into getting it to your monitor.

Just because the companies name is EME, does not mean there aren't regular Joe's back there doing the tough stuff, and these Joe's need to get paid.

...think about the plumber who has to plunge their toilet after a 72hr crash session filled with red bull, hot pocket eating programmers....

"A common type of reductio ad absurdum is proof by contradiction (also called indirect proof), where a proposition is proved true by proving that it is impossible for it to be false. That is to say, if A being false implies that B must also be false and it is known that B is true, then A cannot be false and therefore A is true."
Another application is to show an argument is invalid by feeding in accepted premises and showing the conclusion is false. Here, nothing is proven, an argument is merely shown to be invalid.

Example: 1. Anything optional is ok to microtransact

2. Skins are optional

3. Skins are ok to microtransact (from 1&2)

Reductio ad absurdum:

1. Anything can be made optional

2. Anything optional is ok to microtransact (1 from original argument)

3. Anything is ok to microtransact (from 1&2)

This relies on the following implicit premise:

0. Some things are not ok to microtransact

which contradicts 3, and which I think most/all people would agree with.

Nothing has been proven, a premise has instead been demonstrated to be false (negative proof?).

The idea that level of intelligence varies based on how early you get out of bed is intriguing. I suspect you couldn't match me at any time of day though.

And this is exactly where I hoped you would bring this argument to. Thank you.

The very start of your argument isn't the point people are arguing. And because it isn't the point - the rest of your babble, is rhetoric.

Anything optional is ok to microtransact.
Skins are optional.

The key word here is optional. Anything - in the this context, is describing the word "optional" it sets the paramerters for optional.

But then you change the focus of your argument right away, and reverse the meaning of the initial statement.

You cannot do that when arguing this way. You must follow logic, and you are not. And you must stick with the definition of optional in its current state.

What you are doing is changing the terms of optional by saying anything can be made optional. No it can't.

Just because YOU SAY it can be made optional, doesn't make that true. You assume that it is true, but your assumption, is false.

Your example should read.

1. Optional is ok to microtransact.
2. Skins are optional
3. Skins are ok to microtransact.

then -

1. Anything Optional is ok to microtransact.
2. Anything can be made optional -

Stop right there!

That is not true. You have failed at this point. Therefore, the rest of your argument - fails.

Crystals
Epic gear

They cannot be made optional under the current supcription model.

so point 2 in your argument, prevents you from furthering this discussion any further.

But not you. You ignore this. And that is why you fail.

Can't wait to see how this game fairs. Seems it's heading to 100k subs in short order. Who knows, Maybe those 100k< spending $90/mo. avg will fair better than 1-3million subs at $15. Think I'll check back in 6 months and see how well this cash cow has fed when there's another 500 items in the shop.

+1 to Thundercat, with the addendum that not all forum posters are idiots, just most of them. Also Brutikus, you need to check your math before you post things like that.

So much logic fail. In a way I kind of envy the ignorance it takes to make something a reality just because you said it.

Internet, I am disapoint.
