This is such a dumb complaint. The prologue takes 10 min tops. Get this crap outta here and make way for real issues like those of us who can't play because of game code, subscription, and IP block problems.

What a silly response. The OP is actually bringing up a topic that many others agree with. If something hinders growth of this product, it's good to discuss.

If I honestly thought that it was THE PROLOGUE that was hindering the growth of this game and causing people to quit then there might be some validity to your argument. However, since I can't imagine a world where someone would actually quit a game over a small segment in the beginning that takes no time to get through and is completely skippable... Well my statement stands.

This is such a dumb complaint and I'm cringing at the thought of bumping this thread.

+10 points for Lantini

this is something thats hurting the game

thats why Daish created this topic

if you can do the Prologue in 10min it means you understand the combat system and how to play and are not "new" but for a new player it really overwhelms them and pushs them away from the game

There is a good point to be made here, unfortunately the OP ruined it with ridiculous exaggeration and a 3rd person attempt at being cool/cute.

I think most of the people saying the tutorial wasn't at all overwhelming or confusing are people who probably played during beta where the prologue wasn't present, or maybe came into the game with more familiarity for the combat system from other games.

For me, someone who has strictly played standard style MMO's for the last 6 years... The prologue/tutorial totally sucked.

I create my character and hop into the game... Ok here we go! Wait... I'm level 20, what? Umm ok. So lets see what I have to work with here; uhh ok I have like 8 different abilities right off the bat, and why are they all rank 3 already? WTF is going on here?? Well whatever, lets go. Ok.. clicky the quest guys, ok here's how I jump, Oh now I climb.. blah blah blah.

"You will engage in combat soon, press alt to enter cursor mode and review your abilities" Umm okay.. well lets see, I have 8 of them... I have no feel for how this combat system works, other than that I keep accidentally attacking the air or blocking with my shield because I'm used to using my mouse buttons for camera and movement. So here I am, with a bunch of abilities that I don't really know how they feel to use, how the combat really works at all, and you give me like 5 zombies to kill before you dump me into a big pile of mobs, and then after that throw a BAM at me. It's crazy, but not in a fun way. It's frustrating.

Now, here's why: I have no idea that this is temporary. That this is just a little blurb and after this the game resets and I start a happy little level 1 noob in a pleasant meadow where I can kill tree-men and deer who take 10 seconds to swing at me, giving me a feel for how the game actually works and letting me get used to me abilities slowly as I gain them one at a time while leveling.

As far as I know, this is how the game starts and it's just going to continue this way; you slop me into the mix with 8 abilities and combos and this new weird combat system to figure all at once.

It's very daunting and frustrating to a brand new player. The presentation of it is just terrible.

My wife has some of the worst coordination and reflexes I have ever seen and even she had little problem with the prologue. Besides, if you log out during the prologue I think it gives you the choice to skip it when you log back in. Not sure on that though.

I'd be fine with it being optional even on your first character though.

I had no problem with it, and I didn't beta nor have I ever played a MMO like this. Although I have played some third person shooters and would say they are somewhat similar. My wife on the other hand has never played a shooter.

The prologue is what made me continue to play. I saw the kind of damage I was doing, the chain skills, etc. and it really made me want to push on through the initial 1-20 grind. If it wasn't for the prologue, I would have stopped playing at about level 12.

It should be skippable from the start though when you first login. Some players love the grind of leveling and learning the game/their characters at their own pace, these players would skip it. Others play only for max-level and what's to come, those are the players that the prologue will rope in.

Also, hi Daish, hope you're not playing ye old [filtered]ty WoW anymore.

personally i think the only reason i didn't like the prologue was jumping into it right at the beginning. if i had done even the first quests where i went across the bridge and kill the trees first, i think i would have enjoyed it rather than found it a frustrating mess.

For me, all it would have taken was a simple notification that hey, this is temporary. After getting through this you will start over with your real character and be given a chance to learn how to play the game.

Then I wouldn't have cared about trying to figure out exactly how all these abilities I'm starting with are supposed to work with eachother. I would have known to just left click basic attack my way through everything and get to the real game.

No one is saying the prologue is difficult to complete. Starting with a level 20 character's abilities and a new combat system is overwhelming and feeling like you have to master it immediately is simply frustrating when you don't realize that it's only temporary.

Now that I know that, doing the prologue on any other characters wouldn't bother me one bit.

It seems to me that the main reason people are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed by the prologue is that they went into the game fairly clueless, they didn't really learn anything about the game beforehand. They didn't do research on it. The way I see it, that's their own failing. You should always gather knowledge on something you plan on investing so much time in, the more the better. Perhaps that's why it was so simple for me when I did it on every class except Priest and Mystic. I knew how the classes worked before I even bought the game. *shrugs*

@Crucius, it's actually not uncommon for RPG's to first introduce you to a game with an advanced character. It seems like common gamer sense to me to know that starting with a level 20 character does not happen and will be temporary.
