3v3 Tournament - Hosted by Paradigm

Heya folks.

We generally keep to ourselves 'round these parts, but we've been planning to host a weekly server tournament since early in the closed betas. However, I'm extremely good at procrastinating! Now that things are a little more settled, though, it's time to get the ball rolling.

The format/rules of the competition can be found below:

When? Saturday, May 26, 8 p.m. CST.
Where? Right here!
Who? Well you, obviously, with us hosting. Why did you ask that, silly?
What? Single-elimination, 32-team, 3v3 Deathmatch competition. Best of three advances.

Guidelines

1.) There will be an entry fee of 500g for each team; this evens out to a mere 166(.66 repeating) gold per person, and allows for us to supply a large prize pool for the top three teams in the tournament.

2.) Paradigm will increase the pot by an additional 25% so that the top teams will receive the following:

  • First Place: 12,000g
  • Second Place: 5,000g
  • Third Place: 3,000g

--Third place will be decided by pitting the two teams that lost to the first and second place teams against one another; the winner of that match will take Third.

3.) No consumables or outside resources are allowed. This is a competition about skill, not about who was able to farm enough gold/Catharnach awards for a few hours of fighting. The only exception to this rule is that charms will be allowed, because there is no way to police people putting down fires and charms in the spectating area. So feel free to charm up before a match.

4.) In reference to the above rule, there will be an Officer from Paradigm present in each team's Deathmatch in order to enforce that rule. If we catch anybody going against the above rule, they will be immediately disqualified and the opposing team will advance (If clarification is needed on what is/is not allowed, ask specific questions in this thread and we will be happy to respond quickly).

5.) Bring pastrami sandwiches. I love me a good pastrami sandwich.

Those are all of our "requests" (read: rules). Please send me a message on these forums to register your 3-man team. If there are any changes to your team in time before May 26, you must notify me as soon as possible to change the names/line up.

The event will be streamed live from two points of view, one of which will be announcing/casting the matches. They can both be found on our guild's live stream page here.

Disclaimer: This is our first week hosting the tournament, and as such there will be snags and things to learn from. We ask patience and well-thought-out suggestions so that each week can be better and more fun for everybody.

Cheers, and see you Saturday!

Sounds cool, just a few questions though

Is Vow of rebirth allowed?
Is it best 2/3 for each match or just one fight?

Heya.

Neither Vow of Rebirth or Grace of Resurrection matter, because in a Deathmatch you do not die. When you are struck by a blow that would kill you, you're instead knocked out of the match and left at 1 health.

It is a Best-of-Three type of deal; thank you for asking. I will clarify in the original post.

a mere 166g to enter, but we can't use consumables?

no thanks, mana pots are a must for me in any fight, otherwise im stuck with my pole up my [filtered] :\ especially if I have to "pay" just to compete..

166g can be obtained from clearing trash in one instance, farming some in the dailies area, selling an item, etc. Managing your mana properly within the competition is just another part of it. You never need mana pots, and this is coming from a healer that also plays a Sorc. Additionally, if nobody is allowed to use them, it gives nobody an advantage over you.

In other news, I've only received a few pastrami sandwiches and demand many more.

Very nice prize pool :) Great to see no consumables / outside buffs too! Not to mention hosting it on a weekend, I am signing up a team. It's great to see a tournament that is revolved around class vs class which takes into account mana management.

166g entry fee is no worries, I've seen more spent on consumables for other tournaments. 1st 2nd 3rd prizes and your additional 25% input, great job!

Good luck to all those involved, my team is unable to make it due to Comcast internet issues for one of our teammates :(

It's been about a day since the post and we've had six teams register so far. Keep up the pace and we'll have all of our teams by Saturday!
