Hey,

I played around a fair bit in the BETA but never got further than beta stage 2 or 3 even due to IRL stuff hindering me, before I knew it TERA was released and I missed the release by weeks.

Though all of this was on the EU side I've asked around about the game and people seem to direct me towards the US servers rather than having me play on EU due to the community and frogster for some reason, which is sad to hear but I'm just after the 'better' gaming experience at the moment.

To get things started before the wall of text, I'm currently resided in Sweden with a 30/30mbit connection, once I move back to my place I'm back on a 100/100 or perhaps even 1000/1000mbit connection if the upgrades have gone through by then, so net-speedwise I'm in a good spot. However, seeing as I'll be playing from the other side of the world, how should I expect my latency? As TERA is a action mmo you kinda want the lowest possible delay.
So if any europeans are around feel free to fill me in on this part.

As with any other MMO the early start tends to be rather important if you want to get anywhere in a mmo, at least that how I've had it so far with all of the MMOs I've played so far. How would you say it's in TERA?

I've read around some of the forums pushing the regular 'dungeon finder issue' where people expect you to overgear the encounters by far before even letting you join in, but this was only on some servers... How bad is it really? So if I was to start say tomorrow, am I looking at a painful maxlvl gearing due to not being in the 'top geared' group / having a guild to help me out?

While I'm still at the gearing / leveling aspect of it all, what I never got to try out during the beta was the dungeon finder tool, this is probably the biggest 'selling point' for me and my buddy thinking of starting as dungeons were freaking awesome, I know people will say it gets just as repetitive as any mmo but I still enjoyed them far more than say WoW dungeons.
How would leveling through the dungeon finder be? Times / queues? (Again it's probably different on every server but still)

Regarding class balancing, the reason I'm asking this is because I've always managed to set my mind on the probably worst class in every game or simply the class most likely to be nerfed beyond oblivion.
Balancing is probably the hardest thing to do in mmo's, but how is it in TERA nowadays, is there any class that people just despise to group with and steam-roll over in pvp or is there any class that basically owns everything in it's path?
I did try out every class in the beta but I'm pretty sure it's changed up a bit since then.

Servers, now, we've not been able to decide whether to roll on PVP or PVE servers, I want to say "I'm sure it's not as bad as beta with ganks" but I'm pretty sure I'd eat those words fast.
In the beta if someone just 2-3 levels above you would come around being outlaw flagged you'd have no choice but to run since you usualy died in 1-3 hits. So how bad is the ganking across the board?
Also, how is 'world' pvp at max level?

I found dying rather punishing compared to other mmos with the stamina system, yet not a fraction what it was back in Lineage 2 with EXP loss. But being camped by a group of outlaws would probably get frustrating if it happens too often.

Regarding endgame, what is there to do once you hit max level? Other than the obvious of course with gearing / enchanting the gear.

To sum it up a bit, aka TLDR:
Is it 'too late' to start with TERA now?

Maxlvl-dungeoning, how harsh is it?

Dungeon finder leveling, yay or nay? (Compared to regular questing)

Class balance, is it somewhat balanced or plain horrible?

PVP vs PVE, Endgame? Ganks? Population?

(Note: Looking for constructive feedback even tho this thread might be stupid, I am very much considering this game, just need that last deciding factor)

Thank you for your time

-no

Maxlvl-dungeoning, how harsh is it?
-i am only 51 so know idea

Dungeon finder leveling, yay or nay? (Compared to regular questing)
-i am a slayer using the global instances matching takes ages. i still think questing is faster in leveling. instances is for gear.

Class balance, is it somewhat balanced or plain horrible?
-no clue some one can be bad and be like that class is op..etc.

PVP vs PVE, Endgame? Ganks? Population?
-pvp is fun pve gets a little iffy later.
-endgame no idea i am only level 51
-i get ganked but it was fun lol.
-population last time i saw 3/4 of the pvp servers are on high pve no clue.

well hope that helps, i don't get time off to play a lot. well still some info is better then no info. =D

Hi, me and my boyfriend are playing Tera NA from your neighboring country Finland. I do not have latency issues and had a smooth time leveling to 60, even in dungeon instances many mobs were not a problem (graphic lag at some points but that's on my end anyway).

It's definitely not too late for you to start playing now. The story/zonequests will have you nicely geared until 60 where you'll do instances and nexus etc to get gear. Having a guild can help in questing/gears/instances.

Que-times depend on what you play and if you play alone or not. I play a Priest and my boyfriend a Sorcerer, due to me being healer we got near instant ques at all times. A lone DPS character definitely has a hard time queing though. Quest-leveling is really fast though, I capped 60 in a a couple weeks despite having fulltime work.

As for class balance, it depends alot on the player like said, every class has its pros and cons but I think for now, until they fix it, Berserker may have the most cons? (apart from group pvp, 2v2s and such)

PVP vs PVE, Endgame? Ganks? Population?
- I'm only on Valley of Titans pvp server so no idea about PVE. To be honest all ganks so far have been fun, since I'm never alone (with bf sorc and occasionally our friend warrior and berserk) and even when we're only two (or alone), I can hold my own as Priest. Specifically for occasional ganks on me I have a skillbar set up to counter those people. Of course sometime, the gank is so unexpected you just die there and then. I do see ganks/openworld pvp as a fun aspect.

- I got to 60 yesterday, so I haven't been able to explore endgame alot. I look forward to the new instances and soloing BAMs though. Openworld BAMs were always fun. Sure, running the same instances over and over may get repetitive, but at least it's not as monotone as some other games. The one endgame aspect I hear players rant about alot though is the Enchanting system but quite frankly it's not nearly as terrible as other games so I'll be fine with it.

- VoT has a high pvp population but I think no matter what server, apart from LFG, people don't talk much outside (or even in) guild/instances. Alot of players use voice chatting programs eitherway because alt:ing jsut to type is annoying/near impossible at times.

Is it 'too late' to start with TERA now?

Not at all. I know what you mean about starting later, and finding yourself perpetually behind everyone. But you level to max so quickly in Tera, it's really not an issue. Also, people are often leveling alts to try out all the classes, so there will be people to party with if you want to. You can also solo most content, though I find it more fun to level with a friend.

Maxlvl-dungeoning, how harsh is it?

I've only been running one of the max level dungeons, Fane of Kaprima. I find it pretty fun! But I've only run it a handful of times so far. I imagine that it could get tiring after the 30th time. Also, getting your end game gear will require you to run the same three dungeons over and over, so if you do get tired of running them... too bad. If you're really desperate though, you can farm gold and just buy a lot of the things you are running them for. But they're going to be some of the highest priced things in the game, and then you have to start on enchanting them, which costs even more money.

Yes, some people will kick you from running a dungeon to get end game gear for not having the gear you need to run the dungeon for. This is because having a good run through these dungeons requires skill. Gear can somewhat compensate for lack of skill, so in a PUG, one way to make sure you'll have an easy run is to require people be overgeared. Then even if they are bad at the mechanics of their class or the fight, it's less likely to lead to a wipe. I don't agree with people who think like this, but you will run into them.

Dungeon finder leveling, yay or nay? (Compared to regular questing)

I would say regular questing is faster, easier, and more entertaining. If you are queuing solo as a dps, you are going to have a longer wait just to run the dungeon, and a higher chance of being kicked because "those crystals suck, your gear sucks, your class sucks" attitudes. Sometimes, they're valid criticisms. Especially in the endgame dungeons, where just one person not up to par can drag the entire run down. If you want to run dungeons a lot, having a good guild is important. Or you can decide to play Lancer, and you will get to run it as soon as you queue, and can level almost entirely on instances. I have a guildmate who just hit 60 doing it like that.

Class balance, is it somewhat balanced or plain horrible?

I would say somewhat balanced. Slayers and Warriors are the most commonly played. Berserker and Archer are probably the two who need the most help, at least according to everyone else. I can't speak for Berserker, but my archer is 60, and I definitely get an inferiority complex sometimes when comparing my crits to the slayer. But I try to remember there are other advantages to having me along. I don't get hit by nasty boss AoE as much because I can just stand out of it. And when we need to focus on a single target in a large mob, I'm the one who excels at that.

PVP vs PVE, Endgame? Ganks? Population?

I hate PvP. I don't mind dueling with friends, because that's just silly and fun. But OWPvP gets taken way too seriously for my taste, and I certainly don't care to get one shotted for the lulz while I'm minding my own business. So I'm on a PvE server, and I'm very happy with it. The population does seem to be one of the lower ones, but all my friends play there, so I don't mind.
