Why not ?

The dps meter is probably 1 of many reasons I dropped WoW. The damage-dealers become too distracted by trying to get their damage up as high as possible to actually be useful. The only thing I would support is a threat meter type thing for Tera. Even then I'm too sure dps might estimate their damage by how high thier threat is..

So,
Other than looking at the combat log, and maybe doing some calculations....how do you know which class is higher or lower dps? I've read threads that Sorc/Slayer are top dps, and Archer/Warrior are bottom DPS. How would we know without a meter?

Not to mention, even with a meter there would need to be a large enough sample size because skill and aiming are a big factor when it comes to DPS now.

I don't understand this. Can you please elaborate? Be very specific in your explanation.

You're saying that DPS becomes "too distracted by trying to get their damage up as high as possible to actually be useful". Hmm...ok. Their "use" as a DPS class is to deal damage. If they are not dealing damage they are not useful. A damage meter allows them to evaluate their "usefulness".

If your definition of "useful" is avoiding "standing in the fire", or interrupting at the correct time etc (insert correct execution of any other mechanic) then yes of course - this is all part of the encounter. The encounter is dealing the most damage whilst executing their role in the encounter correctly.

I can never understand why people do not want damage meters. I suspect they are most likely casual players with bad mechanics who have been yelled at more than once for being awful with no desire, or perhaps ability, to improve themselves as players.

Have you ever wanted to improve yourself as a player and gain a greater understanding of your class? Have you ever been a raid leader in a progression guild having issues with a DPS/gear check encounter? Damage meters offer helpful information in both situations. Players can analyse and understand what your strengths and weaknesses are. Example: is this glyph more useful on this encounter over another, this cooldown rotation is more effective on this encounter over another.

If you are a casual player and don't care about your DPS - that's fantastic. Good for you. But that doesn't mean you need to ruin it for those of us who actually enjoy min-maxing, and having an understanding of our class and how to get results.

And players who are so obsessed with their min-maxing that they decide it gives them license to insult other players via "LULZ L2Play~" type comments don't need to ruin it for others.

So learn how to parse your combat log and min-max away. Just keep it to yourself. Please :)
