'Attuned' Item Crafting...

I have just started playing the game as a Aman/Lancer, and I decided to try my hand at crafting since on newbie island I gathered roughly 140+ pieces of ore.

Sadly, the only things I could make were below the level of what I already got after getting off of the island (which defeats the purpose of not being able to craft on newbie island...) and decided to try and make some attuned items, which have enigmas that need to be identified with some ident. scrolls. So I made some items and when to look for the merchant selling the scrolls.

Unfortunately, when I found the scrolls at a merchant, the common identification scroll was about 50 silver or so...but I ended up buying anyway to try it out.

And it doesn't work on my attuned armor. So now I'm a little peeved about wasting 50 silver, and I still have no idea what is going on.

Can someone please tell me how I am supposed to use this identification scroll, and how I am supposed to 'boost' my attuned items?

The item needs to be Enigmatic before you can use the identification scroll. The scroll removes the enigma and allows you to use it. There is no way to "boost" an item using scrolls.

I can understand your confusion I had the same issue.

To clarify for other people who can then maybe answer us:

When you mouseover an attuned item in the crafting menu it DOES say Enigmatic Attuned XY, however once you actually crafted it the item no longer says enigmatic it's simply an attuned item which is already identified (or rather never required identification in the first place).

So my 2 guesses are:

Either the items only actually turn into enigmatic on a critical crafting success

OR

(and I assume this to be the correct answer) the only reason it says enigmatic on the item preview is because you havent crafted it yet and since bonuses are random it simply uses "enigmatic" as a cop-out placeholder to tell you the stats are random instead of actually introducing a new crafting preview tooltip into the game that tells you "these bonuses will be determined after crafting" or something to that effect.

I'd appreciate if someone could clarify this,

Thanks in advance,

Cheers Wes

The item is already identified for you. You don't need to use an identification scroll. It used to be (back in beta) that the item would be enigmatic (hidden stats) when you got it. Then you would have to use an identification scroll on it to see the stats and be able to use it. At release, though, they changed this so the item is automatically identified when you receive it. At least for early levels. Later on you'll start finding items that need to be identified before you can use them. The item will have a big question mark on it in your inventory.

You can also re-roll the stats by purchasing an enigmatic scroll at the merchant (~5 gold each). This will put it back into a hidden state, so you can use an identification scroll and get new stats. This is very common in the endgame where people are trying to get certain stats on their items, like attack speed on weapons.

To improve these types of weapons/armor, you have to do enchanting. Check out Eziel's guide (part 7) for more info on that.

Hope that helps.
