New standard?

I was really sick of the MMO genre. My first game was EQ1, but did not play it for long. I really got into the genre with SWG, the original game. There has been nothing similar to that one produced yet. I played EQ2, WoW, Warhammer, Conan, Vanguard, Rift, and even Darkfall and Mortal Online and they all started to blow after a few days. But this game, even though I still find the quest text unbearable and just click through it, I find myself just hanging in the noob areas well past my quests just because the combat is so fun. It is very rewarding to be able to stack up 7 mobs and avoid all of their attacks while killing them simply based on reflexes. I am sure there are some mobs whose attacks are unavoidable later on, but to me this can be a revolution in MMO core mechanics. Also seems like you got very good netcode, almost no delay. I never found myself blaming input lag for taking damage.

Yeah, that's what sold me on this MMO, the cool combat. Like you (and, frankly, most others who play this probably), I'm an MMO vet and, after a while, they all get stale. But when combat is fun, the longevity goes up quite a bit because there's nothing you do more in an MMO (unless you're a crafter, I suppose).

The other unique feature I like (but took some getting used to) is the lack of targeting. LOL, who would have expected that to be a plus! Given the overall design it actually works. Refreshing change that makes me, as a healer, keep an eye on the action on the screen instead of some HP bars off to the side. Great innovation.

My wife and I are starting today. I played it at release and enjoyed it quite a bit and then my wife and I went off to play Diablo3. After the 1.03 patch ruined the game for us, we stopped our Inferno farming and decided to look for a new MMO. I remembered my experience here and we rolled two new toons on one of the RP servers. She's a Lancer, I'm a Priest.

Fun stuff. See you on the battlefield!

As far as I know, ranged mobs seem to target-lock onto you, which I call BS lol.

You can block or dodge out of target-locked attacks.

Some BAMs do have the ability to attack THROUGH block and have longer attack effects (AoEs usually) than can be dodged fully.

I think you can teleport jaunt through target-lock attacks as well.

Sadly, you can't disjoint ranged lock-ons of any sort with teleport jaunt right now. :(

You can break them by jaunting outside of its range or behind something that blocks line of sight though.
