So since the Tera demo is ran through a cloud server, would that mean that it wouldn't be putting any stress on your system? I would kind of like to test the game out to see if it even runs on my computer, before I purchased it.
Awesome! Says I can run it, thank you very much. :D
If your computer doesn't meet the recommended requirements, but meets the minimum reqs can you still play the demo? It keeps telling me my bandwidth is too low, but I have no other programs running.
I have to say I'm really disappointed with the way they handled the demo. I'm really interested in the game for a good while and missed the beta due to it hitting while I had my hands full of work, so i was eagerly waiting for the demo to hit so I could check the mechanics.
Well, the demo came in a cloud-based service. It may look great at first glance but cloud gaming has a catch, it only works to people close to the servers and with great connections (not to say wasting all your pc power in the case you have a mid to high end pc). Not surprisingly I can't play the game even managing to get a 9.64mb/s download and 0.76 mb/s upload in speedtest which isn't that bad, but nets me with the bandwidth message somehow.
I'm really disappointed about it as it doesn't look like a downloadable demo is coming, creating a wall that I can't pass to play this one. I've got to say I do see some uses to the cloud-based demo, like for people with lacking hd space or people who are deciding to upgrade their pc based on what they think of the demo (people who doesn't plan to do this and have a really old pc won't be able to play the full game so I won't consider them).
I really hope someone will rethink the demo strategy. Having a demo that segregates players from even getting close to the game won't help in the long run.
Agreed. I've been waiting for a chance to try it out and I got really excited when I saw that post on the front page. Waited a day for the server to be up again and BAM. Don't meet the bandwidth requirements. My internet isn't the fastest but it isn't the slowest either, and it's certainly fast enough to play this game under normal conditions.
Yeah, I hate to complain since they gave us a demo at all, it just doesn't do me, and I'm sure many others, any good. Can't really determine if I'd like to buy if I still can't try it even through the demo.
I think the cloud demo is excellent! EME knows that everyone will be seeing the same thing no matter if they have the newest shiny computer or something a few years old. It gets people into the trial almost immediately, doesn't chew up any disk space, and should work almost anywhere (even a computer at your local school or library if you want to play around :) )
If you're worried that people with higher-latency Internet connections will see a bit more lag: that's true if you had a downloadable client or if you're playing the retail version. Giving you a demo in another format isn't going to make a poor connection better.
I understand that meeting the cloud reqs is for full effect, but if you want people to buy the game and see what it's about, you need to make a demo file that all connections can run with. I understand because this is real time combat that having a good connection is key, but again, there are more people with a mediocre connection than those with a top notch one. I guess I'll have to wait...again
While I understand wanting to try a demo before purchasing the game, if you can't run the demo don't feel too down. I decided to try it and I also don't "have the proper bandwidth", but I am able to run the game with graphics maxed out on a high pop server with zero lag or choppiness.
