Well, at the moment, I'm waiting on the arrival of my new PC, so I have not actually started getting in to the game and playing.
Sorry if this is a repeat of any topics, but I couldn't find it in Search.
What is /your/ opinion regarding each server? Do any trump the other? In what ways do the community and overall PvE/PvP aspects differ from each other from server to server?
I'd really like to start on a good server, as community has always been a big thing for me. If the community is generally not there or generally unfriendly, it killed it for me. If the PvP was cheap and generally not fun, it killed it for me.
I've also seen 75/25 on the questing. How is it?
Thanks in advance for all of your helpful opinions! And please keep any trolling or defamatory remarks to none. I'm looking for /opinions/, which means everyone is going to disagree sometimes.
I'm currently on Blightwood and I enjoy our community. I'm a guild leader, so I try and be open and friendly with other guilds, get to know people. Generally, a community is what you make it. All servers have trolls, but it just depends on what, where and how many. Dragonfall has the most people as far as PvE, but as a player, that's not for me (but it might be for you).
As far as PvP, I'm not much for it in any sense, but you don't have many options for it right now. The game has not released Battlegrounds yet, so you have either Deathmatches, Duels or GvG to choose from. Unless, of course, you choose to roll on a PvP server, and then you will have PvP all the time (or options to do so).
All MMO's are rather grindy when it comes to questing, but I don't mind it. If you're looking for jaw dropping excitement for questing, I'm not sure you'll find that anywhere. I enjoyed the story quest and thought the regular questing was fun (on my third run through, can't be too bad).
So, that's probably all I can say regarding your questions. My server is PvE based, and I really enjoy my community, but perhaps others will be able to give you more info on other PvE servers, and of course, the communities that reside on PvP ones.
I can only comment on the questing. It is the worst questing in any game I've ever played. There's simply too many of them, and they are all the same. Here's how questing basically works. You go to a camp and get a few quests. You do them until they give you a quest to go to another camp. Repeat over and over again.
I'm not looking for "jaw dropping excitement," but these are mind numbingly boring. I'm glad others like LMajor enjoy them, but I just don't. Hopefully you will.
Also, I haven't played incredibly far into the game. I played in the beta before the game started and got a refund before it came out. I just picked up the game again because it was $8, and my girlfriend and I wanted something to play together. We're going to play it for about a month or less and move on to something else at the end of August.

I've read a bit on the PvP options, and I really hope it doesn't turn out to be a let down being as advanced as the fighting system is. The PvE/PvP fighting is what I'm looking forward to the most aside from the story and interacting with others.
After playing Ragnarok and Guild Wars for as long as I have, I can't say I expect anything from questing. But I do expect for it to be at least enjoyable. It's good to know that many people aside from a select handful can say the replay value is higher than expected!
As far as it goes for guilds, my boyfriend and I are looking for a guild to join as well. Which I guess is also why I'm trying to figure out which server is the best to start out on. >_> We'd like to start with a good (preferably on the larger side guild) that's going to be interested in a lot of instances and general interacting. I'm glad /someone/ can comment on the community, though. I haven't been able to find a whole lot of comments on it. D:

It's sad to hear people are already deciding to leave. >: Though I guess I can somewhat understand. Most people don't like staying too long if they weren't impressed by what came after the Beta. Though, as a programmer, I do wish most people would be a bit more on the patient side with content release (not saying you aren't, just a general statement!)
As far as it goes for the questing, I've seen several videos of the quests and they don't all seem too much the same? Or perhaps those are just the end game quests I'm seeing. Are you referring to early on quests? I just want to be clear just to not have my hopes too high. I'd rather be extremely pleased and surprised by what I get than hope for the best. xD Though, from what I've seen, I'm rather anticipant for what's to come!
Thanks for the replies, I'd like to hear what everyone has to say. Good or bad! :3
Part of the problem with the quests in my opinion is that there is just too many of them. The game in no way encourages exploration or anything other following the same set path. While there is some variety, most are the same. Over the past two levels while playing today I had about five quests to kill the same type of enemy.
I definitely didn't get too incredibly far into the game, but you can read all over the forum what the endgame will be like.
The combat in Tera is fun, but it doesn't make up for all of its flaws for it to be a long-term game for me.
Undertandable. I get it when you say repeatable is boring. Other games I frequented often, the easiest experence quests were the most tedious, but I guess I can't really expect any better. My bar is set pretty low coming from less-than good games, so I'm hoping TERA will be a better experience. Perhaps it's worth the redundance for the end game quests. We shall see!
The combat looks amazing, however. I can't wait to see what it's like. Several have said that they can't adjust to the movements, but when I tried the demo, it didn't seem so bad to me. Just have to adjust from manual camera adjustments to active gameplay. Which is part of what drew me in, so I can see it being more of a positive for me than most.
I'm a person who plays MMOs through a few times, with different characters because I like the classes. I also played Guild Wars through a few characters, so I hear ya there, too.
This game does have a lot of quests. It allows you to skip some if you feel you are getting too many. Some also provide the same gear as another zone, but it's not too bad. Just make sure you're looking at the story quests, the orange ones, and check out the levels of those quests. If you want to follow the story in order, don't accept or start the ones that automatically come up in your log as you gain levels (just follow the one you are currently on).
My guild isn't overly large, so I'm not sure if we would be the right guild for you. Plenty of people have alts of different levels, willing to run through things. We are a social bunch and try to do things together when we can. If you're interested, I can give you some more information in a message.
If there is anything specific I can answer for you, let me know. As I mentioned before, I can't be of any assistance with PvP, but it's not non-existent on our server. Hope I've helped some more. lol
Your best bet is either picking one of the high population servers or looking for a guild and then letting that decide your server choice. A fitting guild for you can make a game a lot more fun, regardless of the server's population as a whole.
Been playing for 2 days and im seriously it finding very difficult to take this game seriously. No immersion at all, good combat, boring as hell quest system ie: go to point a kill 10 blah blah mobs go to point B blah blah. It feels like im playing some kind of childrens game honestly and a good guild is a great thing yes BUT it dosnt hide the games glaring other flaws. hey if you like cutesy wootsy lil cuddly furry guys and stuff maybe its for you but im thinking i just blew my hard earned doe on this one. (bugger lol) Gave up reading quest dialog after 5 min of play and i love a deep story but this isnt it. Im kind of shattered honestly as some of my friends from other games have moved here and i was hoping for some more effort into this games production. Still going to play a couple more days on the slim chance somthing will change my mind (fingers crossed) Good luck to any other new comers i hope its what your looking for but alas my search continues...........
