Increasing Capacity on Valley of Titans

TERA fans, you're awesome! Just a few hours after the start of our Early Character Creation event, we already have our first full server: Valley of Titans. This PvP-ruleset server is now jam-packed with eager new recruits sporting your preferred names and meticulous customization. For those keeping score, it was also the most populated server during our Closed Beta Test events!

In response, we'd like to add a bit more room on the Valley of Titans server over the course of the next two days. These server capacity increases will occur on Sunday, April 15 at 12:00 PM Pacific and again on Monday, April 16 at 7:00 PM Pacific. This is not only an opportunity for your friends and guildmates to join you on Valley of Titans, it also allows players interested in leaving the populous server to delete their character there and create a new one on a less-crowded one (likely with more names still available, too).

Haven't created your launch character before the Open Beta Test starts? Pre-order TERA to join this weekend's event and get into the Open Beta Test a full day ahead of everyone else!

thank you so much... I was worried the zerg guilds might end up on our servers

by ensuring the best breeding ground for these players - you're helping to keep our streets clean and zerg free :D

Couldn't you just fix the glitch that prevents people from deleting characters that're already made there and call it a day?

In any case, what about people who want to delete to move elsewhere, but are not going to be available at the above mentioned times of cap increase and the server becomes full again? They'll once again get locked out of moving to a different server.

@Mitsukai123, We've been working to solve the glitch issue but it is taking us longer than we'd like. This is what we can do for our players in the meantime.

In everything I say below, I am going to assume that the bug is a program bug, and not something which EME can change from any sort of admin panel or etc.

EME is not a developer. Theyre a producer. In order for them to make any changes they would have to request the developers (BH) to fix the change.

You probably don't know anything about software design processes (not that you should) but there are a few. Waterfall, scrum, agile etc.

The best case scenario is BH operates as agile, where they develop feature requests and changes iteratively, and incorporate them into the appropriate build asap. Regardless, in order to do an on-demand change such as this it requires a LOT of work.

Suppose our client is at build 2.0. Suppose BH has already started developing our client for the next patch. In their code repository it may be sitting at 2.0.xx (somewhere after 2.0 and before 2.1). In order for them to implement a coding change such as this, they would have the branch the 2.0 code (ie. create a copy of the code), develop the change, ensure it has not created any other bugs, and then somewhere down the line, merge it back into the 2.0.xxx code they have currently under development.

Any sort of hotfix like this requires a branch and merge, and it is a LOT of work, not something they can do on-demand, within even a week.

Especially since BH is developing more than one copy of the game at any given time.

Hope that was enlightening.

I don't really get this.

When all we have is people making a single character, how does that constitute the server being 'full'? if you are trying to even out the population, this doesn't seem like a very good way of going about it. Server populations are going to go out of whack anyway once all the non pre-orders start flooding in during open beta and launch.

And what makes this valley of the whatevers so special? Why does apparently everyone need to play there? Personally I chose to make my character on the RP server, which is the only one of it's kind. I would think that if any server were to fill up quickly, it would be that one.

I just hope this design faux pas (this is not a bug), is not indicative of things to come. : /
