Coffee Debate

Recent study shows that coffee actually can make normally hard working people more tired than they would if they had not had coffee and that only lazy people reap the benefits of coffee. Link here http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/03/28/science-stimulants-caffeine-amphetamines-rats.html

This information leads me to believe that hard working people and lazy people have different chemical balances in their brain, which would mean that procrastination could actually be a curable diesease... thoughts?

Seriously? Some premature conclusion on a study on rats? Just another case of unfinished science being over-publicized by the media.

Don't take this crap seriously.

I consider it more of a hypothesis than a conclusion, but feel free to go on a roid rage.

Dahkeus does have a point. The media often seizes on (perfectly valid) early/unfinished/not widely peer reviewed science/study and publishes "news" stories about it.

Maybe they'll throw in some fear mongering like "could coffee be killing you...." or "a new study shows that coffee might cause you to spontaneously combust". Notice the "could" and the singular use of study and the "might". So yes the news is broadcasting that it is a hypothesis but the way in which it is framed sensationalizes the study in the eyes of the layman and spins it as fact. I'll be cautious here and point out that the spin is not so much in the actual words used, absent context and tone, but in the delivery of the message.

I'm sure in a couple weeks a study showing the opposite, broadcasted by the media, with equal spin in the opposite direction, will present itself. This is a lot like the articles regarding nutrition and exercise which flip flop every 10 minutes on a subject to no end.

The coffee debate has existed for a very long time, as has the chocolate debate.

Dude dude just because eggs are good, then eggs are bad, then the yellow part is bad but the white part is good doesn't mean that coffee will be the same way!

Doesn't mean it won't be the same way.

See what I did there.

Note the coffee debate already IS that way.

Sue me I'm linking wikipedia I know that's an academic no no but their tally of for and against makes the point. And, I'll add that the balance in that tally seems to favour coffee as generally healthy in moderation.

Also thanks for the egg comments, again my point exactly.

There's always a recent study of everything. Nothing is healthy anymore, including fruits and vegetables. Just eat in moderation, or you'll go paranoid and die of starvation.

Btw, there was a recent study that said coffee is good for you.
