Is it my Video card or my CPU?

I've started this thread to try to figure out if anyone knows if my CPU could be bottle-necking my GPU, or vice-versa. Mainly about Dungeon FPS issues.
My FPS usually drops to low 20's while in these instance's. In open world i'd say I average 40-45, sometimes as high as 70. (dropping to low 20's when in combat with multiple mobs+minions).
I always have shadows off and I'm constanly tweaking the ingame setting to improve performance while not comprimising too much visual quality.
I turn the player spell effects down when I go into a dungeon and I still get sub 20's FPS sometimes dipping to mid-teens.

Any help appreciated, PC Specs below

My specs: e8500 oc'd to 4.0 ghz
Nvidia GTX 460 1 gb oc'd
Win 7 64-bit
8 Gb Crucial RAM

Going to pin this one on the CPU.

I've got a GTX 460 760mb model (regret not getting the 1gb), using fraps as my fps counter I'm fairly stable at 50-60+ fps everywhere aside Velika where it generally drops to 30's. Only difference is I've got more RAM and an i5-2500k.

Thanks for the reply Zerco.

I've been thinking of upgrading my CPU for quite some time now.
I'll probably go with an i5 2550k.

We'll see how it goes ^^

Heya, I had same FPS about during cbt1 and cbt2 using fraps as my counter while using:

e8400 @ 3.00 ghz
nvidia gtx 580
Win 7 64-Bit
4 gb RAM

I upgraded to:

i5-2500k @ 3.6 ghz
nvidia gtx 580
Win 7 64-Bit
12 gb RAM

for cbt3, I was running around with 60-80 fps a lot, with around 50 in Velika, but in combat I'd drop to around 40-50, but in heavy combat like in SM or big PvP fights, I'd drop to high 20s and mid 30s-40.

I've always had my graphics at maxed settings.

Is that Core 2 Duo holding you back? Could be.

If you wanted to know for sure, you ought to just look at your CPU and GPU Utilization logs.
Recording five or ten minutes of information with the correct performance counters, perfmon can shed some light on your processor's situation and system performance in general.

Never heard of Perfmon? Waddya know, Microsoft has published a FAQ detailing it here.

Visualizing GPU performance? I mentioned this in an earlier thread:

Is your video card hitting 100% utilization while playing TERA? It would be helpful to know if this is the case. Perhaps your card came with software capable of monitoring its performance? If not, programs similar to Afterburner and Precision can reveal this information for you.

Good luck with that.

Two points I have here:

1: I have the same video card, GTX 460 1Gb superclocked from nvidia and I have no problems with FPS drops. MY CPU is an old i7 920 OC'd to 3.4 Ghz and no problems there. There from this point I think its the CPU.

2: Because this game is known to be CPU intensive AND because ur CPU is a 2008 model (very old IMO) and only a duo 2 core processor VS the latest 6-7 core processors of today, I really have to say that based on these points, IT IS your CPU thats bottlenecking you.

so yeah my two cents here.

Whats your Mother Board?

althought tbh I imagine its your processor I haven't even checked to see how the engine or what the engine actually is in tera but i imagine it takes advantage of all cores present...

My Setup is

Amd II 955t BE @ 3.3ghz quad Core
4 gb of [filtered] factory ram and 4 gb of some affordable ocz ram ( I can't really slate the ram tbh as it does its job well )
1gb ATI Graphic card 5xxxx something
Mobo is some other thing i cant remember ahah im not really being helpful..

But yeh I would recommend an upgrade for your CPU its not too expensive @ overclockers.co.uk and they have the best service i have seen online !
