So who played GW2 this weekend?

I've been waiting for Asura to be playable before I really dig into the game. I don't really care for the current races available to play as. There are things about the game that I like and things that I don't like, though. I think it will be a great game to add to my list of games I jump between. Especially since I've already purchased it and it won't be subscription based.

Tera raised the bar a lot.

Raised the bar of what? No concept here is new, no idea revolutionary. Take what work's from a dozen game's, compile in to one =/= bar raised. Sorry. This round am not defending any game, no game has brought new concept's to the table is over half a decade. So while TERA is not bad at all, don't try to pull the "it raised the bar" stunt. Take it as you will, i am yet to see something out of the mold in TERA. WoW questing, Aion crafting/gathering, RIFT rifts, FPS combat stile, and so on... Truth be told I am still waiting on a MMO that doesn't compete for the same pie, and introduces an aspect, that allows for the mold to break, and for new idea's to enter change up the stale air.

lol i have a hard time believing the people who said they played it and it was "just a WoW 2.0/same old GW/nothing new/etc," unless ofc they got to lvl 3 and quit :P

i mean you seriously need a closed mind before even going into the game to even remotely think that. im not saying its the perfect MMO, definitely not, its just that everything about it is so far off from WoW, GW1, and any other "old MMO" that the statement i pointed out by some people is just simply ridiculous.

i also saw something about "lack of healing makes pvp frustrating?" to who ever said that; YOU HEAL YOURSELF! thats like.... one of the biggest things about GW2, and you completely missed it! or maybe you just couldnt adapt? either way, pretty funny stuff lol

but yeah, i still REALLY enjoy GW2 and i'm most definitely getting it at release. i could post my freakin essay ive typed up numerous times on these forums (and others) explaining the ups and downs, but i really dont want to cause the same positives are basically just getting more positive and the one or two negatives wont be changing (which is fine, they arent all THAT bad :P), so no point in posting it again lol

bottom line, GW2 is still a great game and it will be a successful MMO. if you say itll fail then youre simply being ignorant, im not saying you HAVE to like it ofc, a lot of people wont for sure, but A LOT of other people will enjoy it (plus all the GW1 players coming back, which was a sizable amount, not WoW big but still big), so GW2 will be doing just fine whether haters be hatin or not.

The graphics are far better than other released mmos, the combat is far better than other released mmos. At the least in these two important aspects it raised the bar in the mmo genre.

I avoid MMOs in beta on purpose. Been in too many that sucked a large percentage of them didn't have the enough things fixed by release. FF13 was the last one for me.

PS. Check out my blog as an outside observer of GW2's faults

I managed to go from lv 1 to 25 in the 25 or so hours I spent exploring as much of the game as I could. And given that I was so enthralled with playing, that I actually loaded it up today to see if they had left he servers up was a testament for my need to play more.

Even though it was only the beta, the game was more or less polished to a glossy finish. There were very few things that I could honestly complain about (given its beta). Such as the extremely choppy performance on max settings, the low draw count for characters in an area. But aside from the optimization tweaks needed before release, its more or less a ready game. Here are a few things that make it worth the purchase.

Its challenging ~
You can't out-level content ~
The shared loot / exp system ensures players are not competing over drops ~
The story is engaging and action packed ~
Crafting is paced, and provides fantastic loot for those dedicated ~
It is possible to swap between crafting professions without losing progress with previous choices ~
Events are scaled to accommodate more challenge based on the # of players participating ~
The Pvp system's are balanced, and provide servers with bonus's based on their standing ~
Its free to play! Combined with the micro transactions for COSMETIC items and skins, its the best possible outcome for all types players ~

Really, I could write a thesis on the things this game does right. But that doesn't mean its flawless. Hopefully their team finds a way to move the Taxing toll of processing from the CPU over to the GPU like they plan, that way we can really see the game flourish.

I personally won't be playing GW2. It just doesn't feel like its for me, and the fanboi's seem just as toxic as the swtor fanboi's when ToR released. No Sir, no thank you.

Currently i'm unsubbed from Tera, It's the first mmo that i've played that has bored me out of mind before I even hit end-game. 38 Archer, FYI.

I got into Closed Beta for The Secret World and i'm not saying its the best mmo. I'm not even asking anyone to check it out and buy the game. I could really careless what people think, but I'm having a hell of a time playing and that's all that matters to me.

I pre-purchased the day it was available and played both weekends and right now I don't like it and am considering a refund before it's too late. Love the structured pvp, but hate hate hate the pve. I'm the type who'd rather just kill stuff to get to max, but GW2 pretty much forces you to do a bit of everything, which I find all of it boring, so leveling in that game is a huge pain for me.

If they don't adjust mob exp then I'll have to ask myself if the one pvp mode is worth 60 dollars alone, and with how awful the combat is compared to TERA, the answer will likely be no.

I liked the beta >.>

PvE was boring but then again, PvE is boring in most MMOs. It felt slightly better than most. WvW was ok but my server completely dominated the other servers and as such there was no really good fights or anything. Structured PVP on a thief was fun though I think they need more than like 2 maps.

Since it doesn't have a subscription I'll probably play it on and off for months.

GW2 Beta Weekend #2 was just fantastic. I definitely enjoyed my time playing it!
