TSW....

And why I haven't been playing Tera lately.

Well my free time on Tera ran out and I had every intention of resubbing after I got my bills out of the way but I got this invite to TSW (The Secret World) a few months ago and I gave it a try. My first experience was I didn't like it but when my Tera time was up and I couldn't sub right away I decided to give TSW a second chance and boy am I glad, but this isn't to say I am not coming back to Tera. I am pretty sure I'll be resubbing in due time.

But for now its the same thing every day for me. I am having the worst trouble pulling my self away from TSW. I pull my self a way from the game to go to work and i'm hating myself for having a job. When I'm at work all I can do is talk about TSW and how amazingly fun and creepy the game gets and how amazing the questing experience is. I get off work tuck my kids in and log right in for several hours of game play.

Don't get me wrong, Tera is a great game but I'm feelng a bit tired of the same ole fantacy scene in every mmo. You've seen one dragon you've seen them all. TSW isn't all fantacy'ish. Its the first modern day mmo and it take place in our real world. I know i play games to get away from the real world but its also super cool playing a mmo and seeing things that are so close to home that they could be right out side your door.

Anywho, threads getting a bit long so I'll leave a trailer or game play clips for you guys to drool over.

Don't bash on Funcom for the AoC game. We all make mistakes and learn from it and i'd have to save Funcom has totally learned a big valuable lesson on what to do in a mmo and what not to do.

1st how are you playing the Secret World as the 2nd CBT(18th-20th of May) 3rd CBT(15th-17th) are not on at the time of this thread? The game is also not out until the 3RD of July. Have I missed something or what?

I was initially exited for TSW 'cos I love Age of Conan(sure it had problems in its early days) but it is now one of the best MMORPGs out in my opinion. But after months of being registered and playing a lot of the Secret War and not managing to finish it I am without a CBT key for any of the beta weekends.
Plus I saw the combat system in plenty of videos and read many bad things about it on the website forums. Not really looking forward to it to much now.

My bf got in too and he likes it alot. I think the only reason he's playing Tera more is he didn't like playing solo over in TSW.

Yes, no, kinda-sorta. I registered on TSW's official website as an actual Beta Tester, not as a weekend pass beta via some other random website, also check with what Lawlyss said about her man getting in.

On to other notes, recently with some patch over the week something in the /invite feature, (standard in all mmo's), got broken. I don't have major details about it other than what i read in /general chat and tried to invite random players to a party. Just to my own understanding no one could run dungeons of any sort because the /invite feature was broken, and yes Funcom was very well aware of it and fixing the issue, (haven't been on today due to work and kids so I don't have a update on if it has been fixed).

But it's still a hell of a game and the dungeons aren't easy to complete. From your first dungeon you enter, "Polaris" you gotta know what you doing and to get out of ugly stuff and know how to react and move away.

here's a walk through link on Polaris posted on Youtube.com:

and another little trailer that i love

meh, the visuals aren't my type, and the content doesn't look either. I play fantasy games to escape the reality of my work day. But why would you call this game a modern-day when sure it looks like it could be current but it's STILL a fantasy game. That looks uncanny to the Walking Dead or Left for Dead or ANY zombie / undead / Extra Terrestrial ....

look point is I'm saying you're argument is invalid on that point of fantasy being overused.

^^ Left 4 Dead....O.o? Really where are you seeing the similarities, it has zombies, but so does RE and I don't think many would say those to look like the same game.

Plus the "fantasy" element of this game does not vary very much at all from other titles in the genre like TSW does. It is fantasy in a modern setting and it mixes in horror and modern day action. So I don't really think anyone would agree the argument is invalid.

where to start with this quote. Well i guess i'll start off with saying thank you to Gobsides for saying what i'd pretty much say. On to Dauthilord's quote, visuals of the game are pretty outstanding, there are some graphix that are a little rough and could be smoothed out, but it isn't an eyesore that FC should rush out and fix.

So lets count the fantacy mmo's shall we (meaning magic and swords);

Ultima
EQ 1 & 2
Warhamer
DAoC
WoW
AoC
Vindictus
Rift
Ragnaroc
Vangaurd
Tera
GW 1 & 2

And there's a whole-nother list of mmo's that are medival fantacy that i'm not even listing. Those were all off the top of my head. So you see there isn't a modern day setting mmo. There are a handful of scifi mmo's, but to my point mideval fantacy is the number one used theme for mmo's. Why you ask? Well look wat WoW did. 12 million subs is a lot of money, (not current number but that's their record) and that's what people out there are making their goal to be. It is the industry standard.

But than there's people like me. I loved my time in WoW and other fantacy mmo's, but i am so burnt out I don't wanna see another wizard, mage, or sorcerer for a very long time. This is where TSW differs. Yeah there's some magic, but its not over kill and it doesn't over shroud the game that it buries the modern day them. The monsters are kinda sorta things out of fantacy mmo, but they look more dreadful, some look down right terrifying and evil. Zombies don't look like scrouge from WoW or any other mmo, they look real and it is cool.

Anywho, not your cup of tea? Don't play it. I like to escape from reality to, but I can find imagination anywhere where there's a good story to follow. That which this is the biggest mood killers in Tera. BHS did a horrible job story telling and questing, TSW excels here and it is amazing! Deafantly a new breed of mmo worth checking out.

I'm looking for an MMO with good lore and storytelling and TERA is terrible for it so I'll definitely check out TSW.

Any one else got in to TSW beta? I've made it over to the second zone, the savage coast. And things get freaking crazy. Story gets deeper and puzzles get crazier.

Don't bash on Funcom for the AoC game.

1. AO.

2. AOC.

Funcom has a track record of failing epicly time after time. They are not known as Failcom for no reason.

Not going anywhere near TSW for at least 6 months of retail.
