ok so heres my rant, and i feel i have to get this out there before i explode from anger at human selfishness.....

so a couple weeks ago, some guy hit my car with his in our campus parking lot. he blew through a stop sign going way too fast, and even though i slammed on the brakes and left him enough room to turn right, he still went left, right into my bumper.

my bumper was decimated on the passenger side, an area i couldnt have hit him with at any decent force, and his front license plate was BENT. now its gets interesting.... he REFUSED to give me his information! and after i spent a good 10 mins politely explaining to him that it would be easier for the both of us if he just gave me his info and i went to file the report (since id rather not pay the $700 the damage costs, and yes that number is close to the actual amount.... i checked), his brother or cousin or something showed up, and started yelling at ME! the guy who just got hit! they said they wouldnt give me any information of any sort unless the police said they had to.....

so i called the campus police and they reluctantly showed up (parking decks are private property so they dont usually have to get involved.... USUALLY). we had to go through this 30 min process of gathering information from both of us, asking what happened, telling us both to slow down (even though i was at a complete stop when he hit me), and he gave us a card with his name, number, and the report number on it. i thought that would be the last of this idiot.

so i went to get the estimate for the damage and notified my insurance company, gave them all the info and everything and they said theyd contact the other guys insurance company. the next day i get a call from the other insurance company saying that the guy who hit me is now claiming that I HIT HIM and thinks he should get money for it!!!!!! WHAAAAAT!?!??!?!?! the best part is he wouldnt give the report number to his insurance company (and i saw the policeman give him the same exact card i got...). so i give the report number and they said thank you and theyd look more into it.

finally i get a call from my insurance and they say they need more details cause the report is incredibly vague....... so if this idiot who HIT ME by FLYING THROUGH A STOP SIGN IN A PARKING LOT works it right we may have to split the cost...... of the damage he did to my car, since his car doesnt need any work...... awesome, just freakin awesome..... arent human being great!? (he said sarcastically).

theres my rant, at least some of you may get a kick out of the shear stupidity of this whole thing, i thought someone other then the guy who hit me should :P and sorry if you read this whole thing and didnt like it, but thats not my problem atm :/

Hmmm...

So an idiot does something idiotic and gets away with it. Seems like a normal day to me.

Speak with the insurance companies calmly, have all of the facts written out beforehand if you're bad at spur of the moment conversations. Walk them through step by step - without getting agitated.

In the event that the companies fail to do their due diligence, you can always introduce the individual to the joys of the internet.

FATWA - i did speak to the insurance companies, his company actually did a recording of our whole conversation for their records, and yes i was very calm and polite, im canadian, so it comes second nature when i need it too lol ;)

i walked them through the whole thing, step by step, and the report does say that it was the other drivers fault, sadly out of what i gathered that is all it said, so thats why im worried this idiot will try to twist his story and maybe his company will back him to save money... just my worries :/

and i dont understand your thing about the internet, what do you mean?

Lawlyss - thnx, i hope i do too, but ive been slowly losing faith in many of the american systems lately (the only ones i do like are the ones everyone keeps calling "socialist"..... figures :P). so hopefully it wont let me down this time.

PerfectLife - i got some big scary guys too, but theyre all teddy bears on the inside, basically just ripped dudes that happen to be nice guys as well lol ive got a few actual "contacts," but id really rather not use them.... seriously :P

That sucks.

If you have a smart phone, you should record and take pictures of the scene as well as the chat with the campus police and the "other guy." Keep a disposable camera in your trunk or something for next time.

cop took pics, but he didnt actually show us the report he put together, so idk if he kept them and what not, he just gave us each a card with the info we'd need, i guess i shouldnt have assumed the cop would AT LEAST do a half decent job.....

good idea though.

I cant help thinking if you had called non campus police it wouldn't be this way. And it should have been the first thing you did. But god...at times like that....it's so difficult to even process the fact that you are in that situation in the first place.

i did call non campus police, they just told me to call compus police, who then said handle it yourself, but when i stated that the idiot who hit me wasnt giving me his info they finally decided to come on out.

i actually react well under pressure, worked at cedar point a couple years back for a summer and i saved a few peoples lives (or at least from getting hurt, dont want to be TOO dramatic lol) due to my reaction time, almost got fired once for "stepping into the ride operation area while the ride was still operating," even though it was to catch a kid who had somehow wiggled from his seat, MA BAD CP!

my point is i did think of all that, but i get your point, if i came off as rude or anything i apologize, i find it hard not too sound that way on the internet lol
