Arena Style PvP

Personally, this was one of my favorite types of PvP in WoW. WoW had a very tough time balancing it, which is what killed it for me. I think this action combat system could allow for some of the best arena type play there is to offer. Just the simple fact of no targeting and no stealth seems like it would make the arena system so much more balanced than WoW ever was. Opinions?

So far some things that were brought up:
Arenas are something that would be fun if the rewards were something that didn't affect the gearing of people. For example, titles or mounts as rewards.

To encourage OWPvP, maybe set some sort of limit of the number of arenas that can be played per day.

Can we get some more feedback on this?

The problem with WoW's balance was blizzard couldn't keep to their own class design plan.

They said "classes should have weakness" (which inherently creates imbalance) then had patches that took some classes' weaknesses and removed them.

Locks and Rogues for example.

Then you had PvE items that gave free rating if you had them.

Had nothing to do with the combat system itself.

But TDMs in TERA are controlled by the players, we can pick and choose what items are allowed and even what skills if necessary. So no worries.

But I like the feeling of a ranking system, and that just doesn't seem to be present in TERA

I believe I read somewhere on the forums that the top 30 battleground teams get an exclusive mount. Thats kind of a rank.

If TERA is worthy of being played longer than 3 months, the community will set up its own leagues.

No worries.

Besides, online ladder systems are terrible. Good for a fire and forget ranking system, but an awful one compared to forcing matches between teams.

How about just simple Titles? I did enjoy the vinilla wows pvp tiltes that were given to character for, well... PvPing. And it show what rank that person was then you slayed them.

Knight-Captian was on my Rogue.

Sure it is something anyone can acquire, but it did take time to earn them.

Agree!

With the Team Deathmatch stuff going in, people will create their own teams and pick fights with eachother in /area or on the forums. Setting prizes and what not, or just for having fun. I have great faith in the Community here, lets not [filtered] this up =)

yeah! no arena's!!! competitive play is only for skilled players! we don't want them to exist, they might think they are better than us!

zomg gaiz, wait - if you don't want arena maybe it's because you can't succeed in it

Despite the flaws inherent in WoW's PvP system, I really liked Arena.

The ranking was calculated using the Elo Rating System which is how Chess players have been rated since the 1970's.

The system made sense, even if you want to argue that WoW's class balance did not.
