The main impact gear had in AC was in terms of what happened when you died.
For example, back when I played the GSA chest/legs set were considered the "best" gear to have. It wasn't because of stats (as the stats were pretty average).. it was because the armor was bound to your character and wouldn't drop on your corpse if you were killed. So it was preferred by pk'ers since it's 2 less pieces you have to worry about dropping on death.
But my point was if you didn't have "end game" GSA gear your character wasn't totally gimped and at a total disadvantage... you could still pvp in starter town equipment and be just as effective as a guy in GSA. And honestly some people might even argue that a starter town robe was actually better since you only had to buff 1 piece of armor instead of 5 with GSA and not have to worry about dropping your helm/feet/hands.
But whatever, it's all moot at this point. Tera's a fun game and all I just wish it wasn't so gear and numbers dependent.
I should have stated recent MMO. And gear did have an impact in that game also. I had several friends who played that game.
