Something needs to be done about ganking

Seriously. They said this game would be skill based. there's nothing skillful about being max level and one shotting someone 20 levels lower than them and having absolutely zero penalty. i joined a pvp server so that i could face people of equal level. not some [filtered]s that camp your body because they were in the last closed beta and you weren't. Something should be done since all the people in chat are qqing about being killed by max levels and no one can do anything to stop it.

welcome to PvP servers kiddo, home of the... well home of that. if you don't like it - PvE servers have all kinds of "fair pvp" that you can wallow around in.

but heres a tip: those gankers are stuck red for huge lengths of time, and are pretty much prison raped everytime they go out to quest. killing you takes 2 seconds, but they're stuck red for 10 hours(or 120 on level mobs). after 10 kills we're talking having to kill 1,200 mobs, inwhich the entire duration you're steamrolled everytime someone walks by and realizes they're flagged because they kill lowbies, so it could take them a very very very very long time to work it off, so they'll likely just afk in town for hours and hours and hours on end... and basically thats more time they spend NOT playing the game - so you can level up.

players are only ganking freely because they know they're character won't matter in like 2 days.

You know, I just cancelled both my digital CE preorders (one for me. one for my daughter) because of the complete lack of any PvP system.

Even much older games like Lineage 2 have an actual risk/reward system in place. PvP here feels way too "tacked on," and I'm past the point of playing on a PvE server in any MMO. Killing a mob just for the sake of killing 2304987 more mobs hasn't done it for me in a long time.

But the kicker for Tera is that it's Korean, which means our chances of ever getting anything independently for the NA version are nil. So if you don't like what Tera is today, you're just not going to like what it is for the long haul.

Especially with Lineage 2 already being Truly F2P, Aion going Truly F2P this Wednesday with its huge 3.0 (mount system, housing, level cap increase to 60 and leveling curve revamp) patch dropping Wednesday too, and Guild Wars 2 on the horizon, I just don't see myself sticking around in Tera, sorry.

It's pretty though, I'll sure give it that. And I like the real-time combat. It just needs an actual PvP system with rules, rewards and reasons. And a revamp of the quest system wouldn't hurt, either, as that's pretty blah as well....

I completely agree something must be done about the ganking. I fully support ganking someone your own level, and I even support grouping up with friends to gank some loners your own level, but max levels ganking lowbies is just pathetic and a complete turn off for a lot of people, including me.

The fact that they just sit outside towns and farm low levels, but once someone their own level tries to kill them, they just run into the town and yell 'baddy!' is pathetic. I bet you feel real tough killing a bunch of defenseless people, but oh no, a fair fight shows up and you run. I completely support the ability to kill low level players, but there needs to be more punishment. They need to be attackable in towns so they can truly pay for their pathetic crimes.

Also, I'm sure the ganking won't be nearly as bad when the game is released. Right now their infamy will be reset within 24 hours thanks to the characters being wiped, so a lot of people are just saying '[filtered] it' and going all out on lowbies.

Reading these forums to get a sense for the pvp is telling me that I should get my money back.

No. If you don't like it then play a PvE server or change channel.

Yes. This is a game ruining mechanic for a lot of people. If En Masse has any brains, they'll make punishment more severe for killing lowbies to discourage it more. Otherwise they'll see people quitting the game before even hitting level 20. Losing money, and making future game updates worse and worse due to less and less income because of their own player base killing itself inside out.

All they need to do is make lowbie killers attackable in towns. That'll solve the problem because then they'll have no wheres to run to. You want to be a pathetic scrub who is too much of a wimp to fight someone your own level, then prepare to face the consequences of being a true outlaw to society.

And changing channels rarely works now. There's always 1-3 red names camping in every channel now outside every town or quest spot. And while switching to a PvE server is one solution, it's not one preferred by us who actually enjoy fairer world pvp. Hopefully it won't be as bad when the game releases, as I think it's mostly power tripping 12 year olds who won't be able to afford the retail version anyways.

I've always agreed that you should be able to kill outlaws in towns, but it seems most people will just want it so that you can't attack anyone x levels lower than you which I don't really agree with. Even if outlaws not being safe in towns happened, people would still cry endlessly about ganking.

I really doubt that people will quit over that when pve servers are available, which cut out the outlaw ganking but still allow for GvG and BGs. These kinds of posts always come up in games like this, and I can't help but assume they are by people who have never played a pvp server in their life, because ganking is nothing new to the average MMO pvper. There will never be entirely fair OWPVP, it cannot happen. I don't even think OWPVP should be fair, if you want fair pvp then that's what the structured stuff is for.

It won't be nearly this bad when the game launches. Wipes are happening tomorrow which means people don't care how much karma they build up on their characters, guilds like NFA are actively hunting lowbies since it won't matter after today.

What the game needs isn't more restrictions on who you can PK, but more players who are willing to combat player killers who are camping areas wayyy below their level.
