Sorceres, how do you feel your class fares in 1v1 PvP?

So anyone have some tips for sorcerer pvp? I'm having a lot of trouble. Admittedly I'm only 26 right now and haven't had many chances to engage in pvp, but everytime someone of a similar level has engaged in pvp with me, I was completely stomped.

Most recently it was an archer who ganked me a few times, and I felt like there was nothing I could do. There doesn't seem to be a deadzone like for hunters in WoW, so i can't really prevent the damage.

Before the archer, it had been several levels, maybe 5+, that I was last ganked. I feel I could do better against the melee and other casters now, but any tips are really appreciated!

Sorc's definitely need a buff. Worst 1v1 class by far. Only really useful in open world zerg situations where they can hide amongst the crowd and their spell effects are masked by all the chaos.

But is anyone going to want them for BG's over any other DPS class? No. Why would you want to handicap your team? Literally any other class is a better option.

They're fine in PvE because once you learn the mechanics of the fight it's easymode and you can dps hassle free as long as the tank isn't a scrub. In PvP you're not fighting dumb AI and all that dps potential is worth squat as you can be easily shutdown.

Not sure what changes they could make that wouldn't make the class OP but they definitely need some tweaking.

I seriously hope that they balance the classes before even thinking about releasing BG's for this game. I've always been the DPS caster type in MMO's and if Sorc's continue to be gimped in PvP, I've got the right mind to take my business elsewhere.

There's always Guild Wars 2 and that game has a good PvP reputation.

Same here. I had high hopes for Tera as the combat system is fun and was super addicted while leveling up.. but unfortunately now that my Sorc has been 60 for several weeks and the reality of the endgame grind and laughably unbalanced pvp has become readily apparent I doubt this game will be much more than filler until something better releases. Maybe that's GW2, who knows..

What's really sad is I'm still waiting for an MMO to come along with a pvp experience that can rival the insane fun Asheron's Call's Darktide server was when that game came out in 1999.

Why was AC's pvp experience so great?

1. No classes to balance as it wasn't a class based game. Everyone had access to the same skill bank to choose from. Everyone was their own tank/dps/healer. No waiting around for class X to get online.

2. No end game grind for gear so you actually could focus on pvp at end game instead of having to spend endless time farming gold/mats for lame enchanting like every game now a days.

3. Gear meant little in pvp. You could fight in a starter town robe and wand and be just as effective as someone rocking all the best in slot gear.

4. Numbers meant little in pvp. Your 30 man zerg squad could be destroyed by 2/3 guys if they were good enough.

5. There was an actual reward/incentive to pvp. You killed someone they dropped a bunch of their highest valued items which you could loot.

6. There was actual risk in pvp. If you died without death items on you then you risked losing something of value to you and took a death penalty to all your skills that had to be worked off.

I could list more but those are the main points I've been posting in pretty much every forum of an mmo I've played but ever since WoW showed developers the easiest road to maximum profitability is to dumb down the content and cater solely to the carebears I doubt we'll ever see a game like that again. Sucks.

Im the original Dizzrespect from DT on AC, circle cast, blackhole cast, no animation spacebar attack, pop and lock, yep PVP was fun there, no safe zones except your castle, doing a dungeon? too bad you just got raided... even taking the 'subway' was an invitation to get ganked. The good ol days, when MMOs actually had content and updated it every month. That was the first MMO I ever played and still consider it the best, for pvp and just overall content. Although for pvp early Warhammer was right up there.

* PRO TIP DEVELOPERS--- PVP and PVE CANNOT be balanced together, you have to have a seperate set of rules for each, skills cant do the same things or it just wont work. PVP here is fun but thats just the combat system in general, people will only keep playing until something new comes out, fix imbalances now, establish a loyal playerbase early with a good community and you will have a successful game. You cant just have a good idea for a game get people to play it then just ignore blatent gameplay issues or people will jumpship at the first chance...dont believe me? Look at SWTOR... how much did the daily login dip when D3 came out? You brought people back for what a week or 2 with Nexus but that is just so ridiculously unfun/unchallenging I bet the only times many are logging in is just to do those then right back to other games.

I can already see loss of interest in my guild, people not logging in as frequently and if they are, they arnt staying on as long or doing anything. The main complaint? Class they chose is gimped at 60, cant get groups, pvp has no BG or incentive to do it, Nexus is a slideshow, the enchant system is a joke..etc... listen to the people playing the game and it will be more successful, dont and fall by the wayside just like every other hyped up game in the last 10 years.

As a Sorc the only class that I can't beat is Priest, other than that I can beat any other class the majority of the time in duels.

You on Basilisk Crag? Your name looks familiar

Used to be on BC, now on VoT

You really need to learn your class before flaming it. Sorc is easily one of THE BEST 1v1 classes. The only reason you should lose to other classes is due to RNG, or making mistakes.

I wouldn't say that the Sorc is the best 1v1 class - we've got a fair share of problems. We do really well overall - but we have rough spots, and if you mess up even once - be prepared for either an uphill battle to regain the advantage, or a quick death.

That said, i do think that we are perhaps one of the strongest 2v2 classes. If you have one semi-peel helping keep things in check - or play distraction - we wreck shop. And we still have enough tools to not need baby-sitting.

Sorc is an UNFORGIVING class in short. For many, this will be a weak class, for a few, they may excel at it, or for others they may do overall fairly well, with certain weaknesses they fall prey to easily. Balanced? Not exactly - but mmos aren't exactly known for exact balance. Close to balanced? Kinda... We still can be insta-gibbed fairly easily, and I feel we are more gear dependent than many classes.

However, we are also an amazingly FUN class - if you like to kite, dodge, and ensure you are never hit once (because 1 knock down...)

Agreed. I still consider it the best MMO I've ever played too... Mostly because it's endgame didn't revolve around endlessly grinding boring PvE content chasing after the next +1 gear upgrade and instead allowed me to actually enjoy the game doing fun things like participating in all the open world pvp player driven content between guilds.

But unfortunately people have been brainwashed by the WoW theme park style of MMO where it's all about running on that treadmill grinding for that gear since if you're not in the latest and greatest all +12 your gonna have a bad time against the guys that are. I have no idea why or how people find this style of endgame enjoyable or fun.

Tera drew me in with it's claims of "action oriented combat" and it supposedly being more "skill based" since you have to "aim" but sadly that's not the case. What class you picked to main and what gear you have far outweigh any skill you may have at the keyboard.

Couldn't of said it better myself.
