i think generated pvp loot is good, but having people drop items from their backpack, in my opinion, is not good. They did this in age of conan, and as expected the result was less pvp. You don't want to give incentives to avoid pvp. That is what dropping loot from your inventory does. People will run away so they don't lose their items, and the end result is less pvp, not more. On the other hand if you generate loot, then it promotes pvp, because both sides have an incentive to fight.

Honestly, GW2 is coming out with great systems for pvp, and in my opinion most pvp MMOs shouldn't try to stray too far from it. Competitive pvp matches, with ranks, and tournaments is a great item. Also the open world pvp setup GW2 has seems like it is very well thought out, and will be a lot of fun. To be honest, when tera makes their server vs server I hope they make it somewhat similar to gw2's open world pvp.

Usually its better not to try and reinvent the wheel, if the wheel is working well. TBH we don't know if GW2's system will work well, but im also 95% confident it will. They have good, smart people working on their pvp systems. Izzy is a great system designer, and from the information we have been given all of their pvp systems look great.

Besides seeing a ranked arena system, and server vs server open world pvp, I would also like to see some of the self-roots in melee pvp go away. Right now melee pvp isn't too fluid, even simple hits to get mana makes your character stop in its tracks. They need to get rid of some of this self-rooting, and that will help the combat system be more fluid and movement based.

This is just not true. AoC is a terrible example as the real pvp crowd was minimal. People didn't avoid pvp on my server, even so. Look to real pvp MMOs like Shadowbane and Darkfall. The former was inventory-only looting and the latter is full loot. The key to having a player loot system that keeps players around is to make it so the game isn't a gear grind. That concept is the antithesis of the modern MMO(sadly), which is why it doesn't seem to work well. All gear needs to be craftable and the mats need to be obtainable out in the open world. Losing everything on your corpse isn't a huge pill to swallow when the next thought in your mind is "darn...I guess I'll have to spend 30 mins or an hour to farm up the mats and gold I'll need for another set of gear" instead of "wtffffff....now I have to go do another 50 dungeon runs to find that uber rare sword of power again or go grind BGs so I can get another tier 63 helmet of awesomeness."

Tera has a LONG way to go before even flirting with the title of "one of the best PvP MMOs in a long time." We need a pvp server with the following to make such a claim:

1. Some sort of asset/territory control to allow for large scale, open world pvp and a political metagame.

2. Accountability

3. All gear should be craftable with resources obtained out in the open world in order to promote open world pvp. There should not be any sort of required BG grind to obtain pvp gear.

4. There should be no dungeon finder type system(especially one that incorporates multiple servers) that ports players directly to an instance.

5. Player corpses should be lootable. I know many can't handle full loot so I would suggest partial loot(backpack only) or at the very least, a GW2 system in which players can drop items on death just like a mob but don't lose their own gear.

...and that's only a start. The likelihood that any of this would make it in at release is virtually zero. I doubt it'll ever happen to be honest and that's why there will be a mass exodus of pvpers in a few months just like in every other recent MMO. We're going to hit max level and realize it's getting pretty stale without any real tangible goals or solid pvp end-game.

I'd like to see this game end up having a really fleshed out pvp rule set that many of us have been craving since the end of Shadowbane but I'm a realist/cynic.

1. i think with the political system in place they are on there way to a great pvp system. Give people the ability to align to a province and let provinces declare war on each other as well as alliances. Add some sort of asset control system which maybe gives extra gold/ resource to your coffers when more territories are controlled and i'll be in heaven

2. yes definitely need more accountability

3. yes, although i think pvp gear needs a special resource/ paverune type which is only gained by killing people in open world or maybe winning duels/deathmatches (1 per person time limit)

4. not sure of that exactly.. sometimes the instanced bg's are a decent distraction but games have focused way too much on it to the detriment of open pvp.. open world should be first and foremost. i would be ok with them though if they had a gw2 type system with normalized stats for an equal playing field

5. agreed again.. full loot tends to push people away but a limited backpack loot or maybe even gold loss

/signed. I agree on the point where we should be able to loot people who are killed in pvp but only their inventory not the gear that is currently being worn.

and with the new outlaw system on top of that, we may be looking at one of the best PvP MMO's in a long time.

Agreed, especially with Item 3. Grinding gear by earning points in PVP is laaame...really lame. Crafting is the second most important thing to make an MMO interesting and to keep players. Politically based PVP is of course the most important. And forget the mamby pamby RVR model.

O-Pvp and more without restrictions sounds great. I am concerned that the Outlaw system Is In place even without penalties. I am also hopeing that as a Pvp community that we also keep Lfg/Dungeonfinders and channells of of Pvp ruleset servers. You are correct though we will need to make our voices know and be heard above the tears of the Pve-Heroes that are sure to roll on Pvp servers and then [filtered].

5. I like full loot, but when it comes to gear, I have seen people quit games due to losing items they worked hard for. I mentioned in another thread about Ultima Online's insurance rule. Whole some hated it, it allowed a person to pay gold to insure and item that they did not want to lose upon death. If a person killed them, then that person would receive the insurance money + anything left on the corpse that was not insured.
