I've seen a couple articles online about the recent TERA CBT, and the response has been super positive, but it seems like there is always a last little dig at the Elin, how they are "creepy" and dressed like "strippers". There are 2 up on Massively right now.
I happen to think it's ridiculous, having been an Anime fan for many years, and having an understanding & appreciation for eastern culture/art.
In the west there is a knee jerk reaction to anything that resembles sexualized children in mass media, even though parents nowadays let their little kids wear makeup and dress like prostitutes in real life. Nevertheless the masses foam at the mouth at this topic, and all rational discourse becomes useless. Its a bit like the "burn the witch" scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
What I'm wondering though, is if the censorship was worth it? Seems like the censorship brought the issue into the public perception of this game. Now when someone hears "Tera" they associate it with the cool action style gameplay, oh, and those creepy children they had to censor. It's the streisand effect, essentially.
In retrospect, they should have either left it alone and not drawn attention, or gone the other way and removed the race entirely.
I hope they have a plan or something... haven't heard anything on this from EME in a long time.
