I never understood either sides in this argument. I have been a pretty hardcore anime fan for over 10 years, although I have zero interest in playing a race like Ellin, but I also have nothing against them being in the game. I have been annoyed by US content ratings many times, it always seems like this country is more scared of seeing women's breasts than letting kids murder hundreds of innocent people in most vicious ways in games like GTA and Prototype.

With Tera it's not much different though more minor, why do they care what kind of underwear Ellin have? I also don't understand all the complaining about this censorship is about though, you are not playing this game to look at your characters underwear, don't make this sound like it ruined the game.

"I am a pretty hardcore anime fan for 10 years" - this is why you don't see a problem with A RACE THAT LOOKS LIKE AN 8 YEAR OLD CHILD BEING HALF NAKED.

What I think is people who are bothered by the original Elin race then they are in fact pedophiles, because they are obviously having such thoughts to be bothered by it and are in denial. Its like seeing a 8 year old girl at the swimming pool, lake, etc in a two piece bathing suite. I mean come on its the same thing shouldn't bother you. That's my two cents on the subject.

What I'm wondering though, is if the censorship was worth it? Seems like the censorship brought the issue into the public perception of this game. Now when someone hears "Tera" they associate it with the cool action style gameplay, oh, and those creepy children they had to censor. It's the streisand effect, essentially.

In retrospect, they should have either left it alone and not drawn attention, or gone the other way and removed the race entirely.

I hope they have a plan or something... haven't heard anything on this from EME in a long time.

Really - pseudocensorship, not censorship. What they did makes no sense with reference to any of their fears or excuses, and I've been repeating it endlessly since I saw the "final" job.

If someone doesn't like Elins for whatever reasons, those "changes" won't alter the perception of them in even 0.001% - as everything else remained as it is. With reference to ratings it was always completely orthogonal. Press doesn't gives a rat's [filtered], being naturally focused on koran grind, castanics and jiggling breasts (aside occasional/ending comment). Other games happily live fine with similar or riskier content, for years (L2, Aika, even Aion considering its customization capabilities).

It's uncomprehensible naivity or hypocrisy to consider any sort of effect with what they did. I'd love to hear their excuses in this context. As the only realistic approach, to please displeased, was:

a) yank the race from the game, or
b) complete or almost complete revamp from the ground up, preferaly starting with skeletal meshes

Truth be told tinker bell looks more like my friend's 12 year old kid, the Elin... nearly all Disney females look very young and no one is screaming in that direction. Little mermaid only has a bra on, looks like she's 15 and falls in love with a 30 year old man. Well actually nearly all Disney romances involve girls in mid teens falling for a male nearly double in age.. [/quote]

Funny thing is that it's also working as intended. I am a graduate psychology student and have spent a lot of time reading about sexualization of underage females in media, both Western and Eastern. Most of stories animated by Disney were originally written in 19th century or even earlier, so there is a variety of racial and gender bias in them, especially since back then it was completely normal for older men to marry very young girls.

One of the major reasons Disney kept putting these underage girls into central roles of their animated shows is because on a subconscious level men are attracted to younger women. Even if now most of us think it's sick and very wrong, from a natural standpoint males always seek younger females to reproduce. On a subconscious level everyone is biased about aspects such as race, age and gender, which is why mainstream media uses this bias in their shows. Disney can also easily brush off any criticism they take for this since most people are just so used to their characters that they will never question why those 13 year old looking girls are not wearing pants. Tera on other hand, does not have that luxury.

Sure they do. "It's not a human child, it's a pixie, and nymph a woodland spirit and is not 10 years old. Get over it."

Anyone else notice that repeating these old arguments for or against the changes back and forth really isn't changing anything?

It's not. And during the CBT the Elin threads were mostly quiet. I'm assuming we'll see the same at OBT and launch. People just seem bored and are beating this dead horse to the point that it's not even a horse anymore. It's the same arguments made by the same people, repeated over and over again, and blown way out of proportion. So I'd say just sit tight and let the game launch. It'll pass.

After seeing the changes in game for myself, I think this issue is even more ridiculous than it was before. Crying "CENSORSHIP!" at the top of your lungs, putting the changes side-by-side and doing pixel-by-pixel comparison, and trying to blame societies for the apparent evil that is En Masse isn't really going to change anything.

That only works when you have a standing in the community. Tera is a new game from overseas created by a company that even most gamers aren't aware of. Negative connotation of Ellins will never go away in US, we’ve already seen this with anime.

The horse had been beaten to mush. Now it's started to rot and it's disgusting. Not these threads, mind you, the metaphorical horse.
