A while ago some one asked for pictures to other games released in america that had very young looking characters.

I remember playing this race in Forsaken World made by Perfect World Entertainment (the same guys that now own the rights to any game Cryptic made, such as Star Trek Online, or Champions Online)

I would guess they more or less ripped this race off of Linage 2 since they both have these very young looking female dwarves. But in forsaken world, you can get these lil guys lookin pretty skimpy too. They even show belly in the picture. (Just to note this is a picture detailing a graphic bug they have, which is why the legs on the right are solid black.)

I actually remember a guy calling me pedo once on the game for playing such a young looking race, which of course pissed me off quite a bit. Just because we choose to enjoy playing a race that seems young does make any one pedophile. If i were to go into Grand Theft Auto (only game coming to mind right now) and shoot up a crowd of people, does it make me want to go do the same in real life? Hell no.

As for the censors, personally i find it very insulting that they felt the need to do it. But i dont blame the company EME or the blue hole studios. I blame the people that screamed child porn. But i know there is nothing we can really do about it now, so i do at least hope they add a lil more to the censor, the least they can do is make their armor work on the same level as all the other races. Not just the same armor over and over with new colors.

I also would like to state that im in the boat of not seeing a child when i look at the Elin. When i first saw the race not once did child pop into my head. I personally just felt they were kind of ugly looking. But i guess i have been playing video games so long that i dont try to match races to humans in the real world. I see a fantasy race, the same with elves, dwarves or even humans. They are a race of people for a video game.

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

it is not EME/BHS' fault even ONE BIT for not wanting to risk angering the people who would cry child porn.

Get this through your thick skulls, people: they made a BUSINESS DECISION to censor it to ensure it wasn't poorly received in the NA market.

If you can't figure out why it may have been poorly received in the NA market, you've probably watched too much anime to have any concept of reality any longer...

This game just came to the states 4 days ago.

Nothing is censored and it was given an M rating.

I wish EME/BHS thought like this.

Were there any major changes made while you were localizing the game?

No, nothing really changed. We can’t bring a few DLC items over because of some collaborative red tape in Japan, but we kept everything that made the game what it is. Initially, Idea Factory asked us if we wanted to keep the introduction by Meijin Takahashi (AKA Mr. Higgins from the Adventure Island games), to which we replied “of course we want to keep that!” Our mission at NIS America is to bring over the culture of Japan and that was just such a brilliantly goofy cameo—there’s no way we could get rid of it! It’s the same story with the Keiji Inafune weaponry. The game just wouldn’t have been the same without those!

Tape is the only thing and it's not even in the originally made game.

Someone who wants the race forum to actually BE the race forum and not the "piss and moan about how my Elin will have imperfect crotch textures" forum for a change.

In that case, why don't you quit clicking on threads whose titles regard the changes they made to Elins since it ought to be quite obvious what the discussion in those threads will pertain to? Just to be safe, you could even avoid any threads with the term "Elin" in the title. Instead of simply criticizing people for taking up a cause based on the grounds that you don't happen to view it as worthwhile, you could start up a topic for discussing any number of the other six races; that would be at least ten times more constructive to your Great and Noble Race Forum Reform. The censorship is obviously a topic that enough people care about, evinced by all of the threads created on behalf of it. Do you think threads such as this one are going to stop appearing anytime soon?

Thank you Yurian :)

And @ the post above. I've seen Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 some of the outfits are thousands of times worse than anything the Elin have, and it's being left as is for US release. Kind of funny, but it is just a console game made to target a niche audience though.

Uni-Booti!

Hell read the comments for that video. Even it's being called a 'pedo-game' now. But since the people making those comments won't buy the gaming either way the Devs don't have to and won't cater to them.

It's unfortunate that the Elin were censored, but It's not going to magically raise the amount of people buying this game. Most people buying the game wouldn't of cared if the elin where left as is or not, and it sure as hell won't stop them from buying this game. There are no majorities. Just a few minorities on this forum: Elin fans (putting both original armor and better looking armor sides together), people who like the changes, and trolls.

I'm going to say this again, and MAYBE it'll sink in this time:

NO...ONE...WHO...ISN'T...BAT-[filtered]...CRAZY...CARES!!!

respond with ridiculous nonsense like "No one gets upset over hentai, therefore no one will get upset over Elin!" (ignoring all of the people who do get upset over hentai), there's really not much to say to these people.

The comic outlines EME's decision and why they made it, and it outlines why they refuse to acknowledge the issue (also because it's a minuscule portion of the fans who are complaining).

lol. Since you seem to care a lot, that makes you....?

I wonder who said no one gets upset, therefore no one will? I know I said EME/BH shouldn't get upset, and gave historical basis for that, but never said that no one would get upset, hence the stuffed shirt article mention. Hell, there's a few billion Muslims that would get upset just over seeing an Elim's uncovered face, so we should cover all the toons head to toe to make Muslims happy? /facepalm. But I consider that irrational on their part, just as I consider anyone upset over the original Elim designs irrational. I use a very simple comparison for this; if I were to go to a beach, would the average child be wearing more or less than the Elin? Since the answer is less, then even ignoring that the Elim are not children, then the Elim designs were fine and no censoring was required. Had this game been released in a Muslim country, the answer would have been more, and censorship would have been the correct decision.

"But the Elim are not at the beach!" Doesn't matter. If it is socially acceptable to see children in two piece swimsuits, then that sets the boundary between wholesome and perverted. If the Elim had been topless, I'd be on your side. Had they no panties at all, I'd be on your side. Had I been Muslim, I'd be on your side. Had I been a deeply religious person who considered the body evil, I'd be on your side. If the new designs had been the old designs and there were people upset because they wanted even less clothing, I wouldn't even be weighing in on this issue, because I could care less about what the Elim are wearing, as long as it is well done, stylish and maintains the overall cuteness of the toon. I just hate it when people try to force their narrow vision on what is right or wrong on everyone else, which is why I'm not on your side. Had you been born and raised in Japan, you would most likely be on my side.

This issue really only comes down to one single point; in Japan, until fairly recently, a town only had one public bath, it was not divided into male/female sections, so a man saw naked girls every day. Nudity isn't a big deal there, even after 7 years of occupation in which we tried our best to instill our hated of our bodies into them. Doesn't appear to be a big deal in Korea, either. But it is a big deal here, in a country founded by religious, prudish people who view the body as evil. We're a country not as bad off as Muslim countries, but not much better either, and certainty not on a par with some Asian societies. And the residue of this country's religious beginnings still exists today, as can be seen by people irrationally upset over an animated, light-hearted, carefree, non-human fox girl in more clothing than a real girl would wear at the beach. /facepalm

I have a wholesome, children's film by Miyazaki, (Totoro) the most respected anime director in Japan, and I hesitate to show it to friends, because there is a scene with the father taking a bath with his two daughters, one of which looks older than any Elim. No one gets upset in Japan over this scene because it was a normal occurrence there during the film's setting. Here in America, a father would be charged with indecent exposure with a minor. It's the difference between cultures and why this whole argument even exists.

I would venture that the fans, such as yourself, who complain about the complainers, are a minuscule portion of the population. The fact that the forums are flooded with this subject indicates that it is not a minuscule portion of the population upset over an irrational decision to censer the American release. For the record, I've seen your name since the first page or two of this discussion. I only came in at page 35, give or take one, mostly because it's the weekend and I'm bored, with my WOW toons maxxed out for the week.

And, try to understand, you keep phrasing it as people upset because they can't see panties. I'm pretty sure the root cause of their disapproval of the changes is due to being upset because America was singled out for censorship, and treated differently from other countries, implying that there is something inferior about our country.

The most intelligent reply Ive seen on this board. Kudos to you sir or madam. :D
